Marvin Duke Ponce, age 79, of Tucson, passed away August 18, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Norma; three sons and two daughters. A Scripture Service will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, 1997 at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. University Boulevard. Visitation will be at the Mortuary on Friday from 8:00 a.m.until 8:00 p.m.

SALAZAR, Paola N., 12, of Mexico, passed away August 17, 1997. Burial to be in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, DODGE CHAPEL, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd.

SKALLA, Elmer H., 83, died August 20, 1997. Husband of Rose Ann Skalla of Tucson; father of Richard (Anne) Skalla of Tonto Basin, AZ, Raymond (Patty) Skalla of Colorado Springs, CO and Beverly (Philip) Walter of Phoenix; brother of Clarence Skalla of Tulsa, OK, Lorraine Chesslock of Colorado Springs, CO, Mildred Downey of Colorado Springs, CO and Vee Underburg of Phoenix; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 1997 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco, with Father Robert Tamminga officiating. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 22 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

STACKHOUSE, Kathryn ”Sue”, 61, died of a massive heart attack on August 17, 1997. Survived by her daughters, Kathy (Skip) Taylor and their children, Angela and Kevin Lewis, Kristen, Daniel and Jamie Hansen; Linda (Steve) Brown and their children, Steven, Shawn and Skyler Brown; her sons, Michael Crenshaw and Tracy and John Crenshaw; her mother, Lena Vickery; brother, Pat Vickery; and numerous friends. Sue was a foster parent and participated in many community services. She will be missed and loved by all. Memorial Service Saturday, August 23, 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University Blvd. Reception to follow at Barcelona Manor Condominium Rec. Room.

Glen R. Stoker, 81, a Tucson resident for the past 13 years, died Monday, August 18, 1997. Survived by four sons, Richard (Marilyn) of Ottawa, Canada, Wilford (Jenny) of Long Grove, IA, Steve (Janice) of Sidney, Australia and Roger Stoker of Tucson; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Jack; sisters, Lucille, Ileene and Shirley, all of Ogden, UT. Glen was a Master Seargent in the US Army and served in WWII, former resident of Utah where he retired as a fireman and a member of the LDS Church. Glen was a great father, great brother, great friend and will be missed by all. Funeral Service will be held in Ogden, Utah Monday, August 25. Arrangements by Lindquist Funeral Home.

Genevieve Wechselberger, 78, passed away August 19, 1997. ”Jenny” brought laughter and joy into all of the lives she touched. Preceded in death by her grandson, Ronald Green. Survived by children, Rhonda (Harvey) McPheron of Tucson, Fred (Becky) Wechselberger of California, Tony (Darlene) Wechselberger of California; four brothers, Jud, Lester, Dale and Douglas Beckwith, all of Michigan. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; former daughter-in-law, Ginger Kludt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jenny moved to Tucson in 1958 from Michigan and worked at Penny’s and later retired from Louie’s Lower Level at the U of A, where she served desserts for several years. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society. Friends may call 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m, Friday, August 22, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., where Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 1997, with Rev. Max J. Wolf of St. Philip’s in the Hill Episcopal Church officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

WHALEN, James W., 56, passed away August 19, 1997. He is survived by son, Michael Whalen; daughter, Tami Whalen; mother, Catherine Whalen; sister, Eileen and her husband William Vasko; sister, Patricia and her husband David Brown; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. Mr. Whalen was a graduate of Mt. St. Michael's Academy and Manhatten College, both in New York City. He earned his Masters Degree and did his post graduate work at the University of Arizona. He was also an Eagle Scout. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 1997 at Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd and Swan. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, 1997 at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at All Faiths Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to Hospice Family Care.

WILSON, (Chunk) Ben A., Jr., 59, native Tucsonan, died suddenly of a heart attack, while at S.I.R. Drag Strip August 16, 1997. He is survived by wife of 30 years, Diana (Hammond); sons, Brian and David; brother, Brad (Donna), all of Tucson. Graduate of Amphi High School and employed by Aero Rental for 33 years. Member of Southwestern Chapter of the Buick Gran Sport Club of America. Services will be at EAST LAWN MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Friday, August 22nd at 2:00 p.m. Friends may visit from noon to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southwestern International Raceway, 11300 So. Lois Jean Caid, 65, passed away August 16, 1997 after a long illness. Lois was born January 5, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri to Ted and Daisy Walker who preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, James S. (Jill) Caid; daughter, Madeline T. (Brad) Edwards; three grandchildren, Monterrey Caid, Keira and Colin Edwards; sister, Joan W. (Jack) Moore. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Lois moved to Tucson in 1944. She was employed by Hughes Aircraft Company for many years until she retired. The family suggests donations in memory of Lois Jean Caid be made to the Square & Compass Children’s Clinic, 2600 N. Wyatt Dr., Tucson, AZ 85712. Franklin Robert Fidler, Sr., born May 20, 1921 in Lancaster Co., Columbia, PA, passed away in Tucson, AZ on August 18, 1997. Mr. Fidler served in the Army Air Force from 1937 to 1945, as staff sergeant for 1388th Army Air Force Base Unit, was stationed in Newfoundland. Among his duties in the States Mr. Fidler served as guard for President Franklin Roosevelt during WWII and an Honor Guard at Arlington Cemetery. After his Honorary Discharge Mr. Fidler joined the Reserves for 10 years. Decorations received were Good Conduct Medal, American Defence Service Medal, American Theatre Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Fidler will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him. Mr. Fidler is survived by his wife, Mary of 14 years; and 11 children Franklin, Jr. Arlington, VA, Margaret Pugh, Stafford, VA, Dianne Rippey, Columbus, OH, Sandie Porter, Colorado Springs, CO, Michael, Arlington, VA, Patty Good, Manassas, VA, Brenda Jones, Oxon Hill, MD, Steve, Woodbridge, VA, Kathleen Paschall, Stafford VA, Debbie Fidler, Arlington, VA., June Fish, Colorado Springs, CO; one sister and three brothers, Betty Gifford, Martin, Richard and Kenneth; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. There is no viewing or services in Tucson. Interment services and burial with Military Honors will be at Culpepper National Cemetery in Culpepper, VA.

FORSYTHE, Herbert Eugene, 88, of Tucson, died suddenly on August 17, 1997 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Mr. Forsythe attended Northwestern University where he received his degree in accounting. He was retired from the White Motors Corp. where he worked for many years as a C.P.A. He was a charter member of the Lions Club in Euclid, Ohio as well as a life member of the North Tucson Lions Club. While in Ohio, he served in several offices of the Lions, including cabinet secretary. Mr. Forsythe was also an active member of several Lutheran Church congregations, more recently in the Community of Hope Lutheran Church. A kind and loving man, he will be greatly missed. Herbert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lola-Jane; sons, Frank (Jean) of Ohio and Donald (Jackie) of Georgia; daughter, Lola-Jean (Rick) of California; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will take place on Thursday, August 21, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. from the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Pastor Drum of Hope Lutheran Church to officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community of Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 3141 W. Ironwood Hill Drive, Tucson, AZ 85745.

KELLY, Dr. John A. Memorial Service for Dr. John A. Kelly who passed away in Tucson on August 3, 1997 will be held Saturday afternoon, August 23, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 1220 W. Magee, Tucson, AZ, with the Rev. Rick Mensing officiating Pastor.

Survived by loving wife, Tracey Tisdale of Phoenix; two daughters, Anika and Danella Tisdale; mother, Ms.Dorothy Davidson ”Jones” of Tucson; aunts, Ms. Fannie Jones of Tucson, Ms. Zora Spearman of Denver, Colorado; two uncles, Mr. Leode Jones, Mr. Herman Jones of Tucson, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John Barclay Wilkie, 76, longtime Tucson resident, passed away suddenly on August 17, 1997. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife, Jessie of Tucson; daughters, Jane (Nyle) Schafhauser of Costa Mesa, CA, Margaret Wilkie and Dorothy (Craig) Courville, all of Tucson; grandchildren, Richard Wilkie of Las Vegas, Capt. James Wilkie of Hill AFB, UT, Nyle G. Schafhauser and Carrie (Bernardo) Jimenez, all of Costa Mesa, CA and Michael Courville of Tucson. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Margaret Bohlmann, Edith Wilkie, Marilyn Williams and Ellen Wilkie; brother-in-law, Samuel Williams, numerous nieces and nephews; family friends, Dr. Hugh H. McFadyen and family and all of his many wonderful friends. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, April 6, 1921 and grew up in Port Washington, NY. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture. He served in the War Department during WWII. He moved to Tucson in 1944 and graduated from theUniversity of Arizona Law School in 1947. He married the former Jessie L. Williams in May 1946 and they had 51+ wonderful years together. He started his career as legal counsel for Arizona Land Title & Trust Co. in 1946 and became president of Lawyer’s Title of Arizona in 1968. He retired from Lawyer’s Title in 1987. He worked with Snell andWilmer until 1990 when he decided to go into private practice. He was a longtime faithful member of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and in many other capacities. He volunteered his time over the years to Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, The United Way, the Tucson Chamber of Commerce and served as a Juvenile Court Judge in the 1950's & 1960's. He will be sorely missed by all of those lives he touched. We will celebrate his life with a Memorial Service on Thursday, August 21, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. 3rd St., Tucson. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church’s For Others Fund; Habitat for Humanity or the Casa Maria Soup Kitchen. ARGUELLES, Virginia P., 78, of Tucson, went to eternal rest August 16, 1997 and joined her son, Robert ”Bobby” Arguelles; sister, Carmen Salcido and brother, Leandro Pena. Survived by husband, Andres Arguelles; daughter, Mary Jane (Alfredo) Bravo; daughter-in-law, (Willie) ”Chemo” Madrid; sisters, Lucy Federico, Ramona Alley, Jo Jackson and Gloria Chavez, all of California; brother, Epifano (Dolores) Pena of California; also survived by grandchildren, Alfred Bravo (Kimberly West), Laura (Ralph) Carrillo, Tommy Arguelles, all of Phoenix, Jeanette (Randy) Pesqueira, Richard Arguelles; and also by many beloved nephews, nieces and close friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 1997 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY (North Chapel), 204 South Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church. AURYANSEN, Winslow C., 91, of Tucson, died August 14, 1997 after suffering head injuries in a fall three days earlier. Mr. Auryansen was born in Newton, Massachusetts on February 3, 1906 and lived in Newton until his move to Tucson in 1973. He served on the City of Newton Board of Aldermen for 12 years and then was assistant to the mayor of Newton for three years. Mr. Auryansen was married for 38 years to the former Dorothy Ramsay, who died in 1988. He is survived by his only daughter, Mary Gambolati of West Palm Beach, Florida, her husband Ron and three grandchildren. Mr. Auryansen graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York in 1927. He was a long-time member of the Central Congregational Church in Newtonville, where he was active in the choir and also was a member of the Highland Glee Club of Newton and the Weston Golf Club. After his move to Tucson, he was a member of Saguaro Christian Church. He sang with the Sunshine Chorus of Tucson and belonged to the Rolling Hills Golf Club. A memorial service will be held at Saguaro Christian Church in Tucson on August 20 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at a later time in the family cemetery plot in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Saguaro Christian Church of Tucson, to Central Congregational Church of Newtonville, Massachusetts or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd & Swan.
