VANOVER, Mrs. Inez E. Coleman, 94, born November 17, 1902 in Paw Paw, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 14, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley M. (Cowboy) Vanover. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jewell Falk of Novato, CA; her children, Constance (Edward) McCullough of Tucson, Lenore Bowers of Grants Pass, Oregon, Robert (Wanda) Vanover of Naturita, CO, Ronald (Julie) Vanover of Tucson, Donald Vanover of Tucson, David (Anne) Vanover of Arivaca, AZ, Sue (BJ) Crosby of San Augustine, TX, Edward (Diane) Vanover of Tucson and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She came to Tucson in 1926 from Kentucky with her invalid husband and three children, the oldest being only four years old. While her husband was recuperating in the old Veterans Hospital at Pastime Park, she cooked at the Copper Kettle Restaurant near the U of A 3rd St entrance. Between shifts, she drove a school bus for the Tanque Verde Elementary School and later from Tanque Verde to Mansfield Jr. High. When her husbands health improved, they homesteaded in what is now the Saguaro National Monument, where two of her sons were born. She was the cook at La Fonda Inn at Rancho Del Rio Guest Ranch and at Saddleback Guest Ranch. She also raised a foster son from 1947 to 1989. She was a charter member of the Tanque Verde Baptist Church and a revered Christian Leader, until well after her 90th birthday. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. WRY, Dr. Orlin Vincent, Jr., age 64, died August 14, 1997 at Carondelet Hospice in Tucson. Dr. Wry maintained an active practice of medicine up until his retirement last year. Dr. Wry treated many patients in Tucson and Green Valley, first in private practice from 1969 to 1989 and then as a staff physician at FHP, Inc. until his retirement last year. He also served as Chief of Staff and Director of Continuing Medical Education at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Dr. Wry received his BS from Georgetown University (1953), his MA from Fordham University (1954) and his MD from New York Medical College (1958). He completed his sub-specialty in pulmonary medicine at the University of Arizona in 1974. His career began in his hometown of East Rutherford, New Jersey when he joined his father’s medical practice. He left New Jersey in 1967 to serve as a medical director in the Indian Health Service in Rapid City, South Dakota and relocated to Tucson in 1969. Dr. Wry enjoyed a lifelong passion for music, and loved improvising at the piano. In recent years, he focused on consciously living a spiritual life. He was grateful daily to the many friends that helped him on his path. He leaves behind his wife, Cassandra (Kelso); his daughter, Ila Jennifer of Boston, MA; his son, Maxwell Vincent of Westminster, CA; brothers, Charles and Brann; sisters, Ora and Mary Grace; and grandson, Alec Vincent. Funeral Services will be held at St. Philip’s in the Hills Church, (northeast corner of Campbell and River), on Sunday, August 17 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Carondelet Retirement Fund and/or St.Philip’s Yes to the Future program.
ALBRIGHT, Doris Mae, born August 9, 1918, died August 12, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Albright. Survivors include two sons, Larry (Teresa) Albright, Dennis (Gloria) Albright; six grandchildren, Mark Albright, Annette (Jim) Craig, John (Carrie) Albright, Penny Cuffe, Jeff Albright, Kari Albright; and six great-grandchildren. Doris was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. GAY, Patricia Jean, 68, Cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister passed away August 8, 1997. She is survived by husband, Ted; son, Bob (Leslie) Gay; daughter, Patty (Ron) Skulley; grandchildren, Mallory Mosebar, Daniel Gay, Carrie and Melissa Skulley; sisters, Marcia (Howard) Lambert and Joanne (Kenneth) Pribble. Pat was a graduate of the University of Arizona and a member of Chi Omega (Zeta Beta Chapter) and other philanthropic organizations in Tucson. As a 20 year member of Assistance League of Tucson, Pat most recently devoted untold hours of effort towards the completion of the current Assistance League building complex that houses the League Thrift Shop and Executive offices. Pat filled her time with travel, both with Ted and with numerous friends. Some of her favorite destinations included Stockholm and Singapore, Hawaii and Hong Kong, Copenhagen and Cairns, and of course, Punta Pescadero in Baja California Sur. She will be remembered as a tireless worker in Assistance League, a world-wide traveler, and a devoted wife, mother, G.G., and most importantly, a true friend. A Memorial will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1949 East Helen Street, on August 22, 1997 at 2:00 p.m.followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. at Assistance League of Tucson, 1307 North Alvernon.
