Russell Marrapodi, 63, died of a sudden heart attack on Thursday, August 7, 1997. He was a loving, and devoted father to Tricia Marrapodi and Kelly Burr Munsell. BEAL, Joe L., longtime Sierra Vista teacher and resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 1997 at his home in Tucson. Joe was born in Mansfield, OH on May 10, 1917 to Clarence E. Beal and Mary Geneva McManis Beal. He graduated from Kent State University in 1941. After college he became a pilot in the Air Force and served in World War II and the Korean conflict. In the early 1940's he was stationed at Thunderbird Air Force Base in Glendale, AZ, which is when he fell in love with Arizona. He met Catherine Gallucci in college and they married when he returned from the war in 1945. They were married until her death in 1979. Joe and Catherine moved to Tucson in 1954 and to Sierra Vista in 1959. They both taught in Sierra Vista schools from then on. Joe did continuing graduate studies at both the University of Arizona and Arizona State University. Joe retired from teaching Jr. High Social Studies in 1981. In that year he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the State of Arizona Dept. of Education. Joe belonged to the VFW, The American Legion, the Lion’s Club and the Retired Teacher’s Association. He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Beal Tonini; his grandchildren, A.B. Wells, Cy Wells, Carly Tonini, all of Encinitas, CA; his sister, and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Edward Williams of Mansfield, OH and his brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Edith Beal of Tucson. CLEMENT, Joan R., 71, passed away suddenly on August 5, 1997. She is predeceased by daughter, Deborah. FOSTER, Ruby Nell, peacefully passed away in Lakewood, WA on July 30, 1997 at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman. Nell and Lyman loved the desert and made Tucson their home for over 40 years. Four years ago, Nell moved to Washington state to live closer to her daughter and family. She is survived by Judy Bankhead, her daughter and son-in-law, Alan; grandsons, Jeff and Jon and granddaughter, Jamie. She also leaves two sisters, Celia Webb and Claire Boyer; one brother, Fred Cross; brother, Robert Cross preceded her in death. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. DAVIS, Glen E., Lt. Col. U.S. Army, Ret., 83, died August 5, 1997 at St. Joseph’s Hospice Center. Glen was born in Kansas City, KS on September 10, 1913. His family moved to Chicago when he was a year old. He attended grammar school, high school and junior college in the Chicago area and later attended Northwestern University. In 1940 he enlisted in the Army as a private and retired 25 years later as a Lt. Col. after service in World War II and the Korean War. While in the Service he met, courted and in 1942 married Thelma Wilson of Nashville, TN. They have two children, Connie Clark of Orland, CA and Donald from Los Angeles. There are three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Merle Davis and one sister, Miriam Green. From the time Glen was a toddler, there has never been a time that he did not have a close affiliation with the church. He served as Deacon in two different Presbyterian churches and was Sunday School Superintendent at two churches. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a charter member and past Master of a lodge in Japan. Services will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church at 6565 E. Broadway on Saturday, August 9 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice or Christ Presbyterian Church Building Fund. HAWKINS, Beulah T., who resided at 5772 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, died Saturday, August 2, 1997. EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY is in charge of Funeral arrangements. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Luna, NM on April 7, 1912 and moved with her family to Mesa, AZ in 1918. She attended Mesa Elementary, Mesa Union High School and earned a certificate in Vocational Nursing from Ohio State University Hospital. She began her nursing career in Tucson. On July 6, 1946 she married Grady L. Hawkins. After 10 years of nursing, Mrs. Hawkins joined her husband’s business as vice-president of Hawkin’s Building and Development Co., Inc., which was instrumental in the development of Tucson’s near east side. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by a brother, Calvin (Nancy) Thompson of Silver City, NM and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Thompson of Long Beach, CA; 16 nieces and nephews and 19 grandnieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady; her parents, Joel and Vera (Nielson) Thompson and brothers, Enwood and Fred Thompson.
