BAILEY, Josephine ”Joan”, 75 years old, died Saturday, November 8, 1997 in Tucson. She is survived by her husband, David; three sons, David Jr. of Lake Villa, IL, Gregory of Tucson and Kevin of La Jolla, CA; two daughters, Patricia Chaudoir of Deer County, WI and Marie Edmonds of Tucson; two brothers, Joan Campbell of Tucson and Thomas Campbell of Co. Mayo, Ireland and two sisters, Kathleen O’Donnell and June Crawley, both of Co. Mayo, Ireland; grandchildren, Christopher, Brendan, David, Megan, Brooke. Born in Swinford, Co. Mayo, Mrs. Bailey was a retired professional nurse registered in Ireland, England and Illinois. She served in some well-known institutions, including St. James Hospital, London and Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. She was a director of nursing in three skilled nursing facilities in Illinois–Old Orchard Manor (Skokie), Greenoaks (Park Ridge) and Oakton Pavilion (Des Plaines). Mrs. Bailey spent the last five years of her 48 year nursing career tending to sick priests and brothers returning from foreign missions associated with the Society of the Divine Word Based at Tecmny, Illinois. Visitation, WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway (881-0338), Thursday, November 13, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Vigil Service, Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Mass, Friday, November 14 at St. Pius X Church, 10:00 a.m. followed by Interment at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery.

BATES, Robert Thomas ”Tom”, passed away November 8, 1997 at TMC Hospice following a prolonged and painful struggle with bone cancer. Born September 16, 1949 in Detroit, MI but spent his entire life in Tucson where he attended Catalina High School, Class of 1967. Preceded in death by his father, R. Robert Bates, MD; sisters, Martha and Nancy; and brother, Mark. He was an assistant manager at different times for Wendy’s, Arby’s, and Long John Silvers. His favorite hobby was playing the guitar. He leaves his mother, Norma Grove; stepfather, Robert J.; brother, Steve (Justyna) of St. Louis; sisters, Barbara (Don) Phillips of Phoenix, Maribeth Dennis, Ph.D. of Lubbock, Theresa Bradford of St. Louis; and 10 nieces and nephews. His cremated remains will be placed in the Columbarium Wall at Rincon Congregational Church of Christ. There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the TMC Hospice. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

COLEY, KEVEN J., 20, of Tucson, passed away November 8, 1997. He is survived by parents, Leon & Sylvia Coley; son, Elijah Jamil Lopez; brothers, Nicholas D. Coley and Eric M. Coley; paternal grandmother, Luementha Coley of Columbus, MS; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be two hours prior to service from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 1997 at Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd and Swan, with private interment. CORR, CHRISTOPHER M.J., July 25, 1952 to September 5, 1997. Resided in Tucson with his life partner, Victor E. Morgen. God has taken you in your sleep and blessed you twice-fold as you share your passing day with Mother Theresa. A service of memory and celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 15 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. DE SMIT, Robert E., 65, of Tucson, died November 11, 1997. Survivors include his children, David, Anna and Scott; and his former wife, Doris De Smit, all of Tucson. After serving 24 years with the US Air Force he retired in 1974. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association. DICKEY, Robert O., 36, died November 10, 1997. Husband of Lisa Dickey; father of Robert Dickey; stepson of Loretta Dickey. Survived also by a loving family and many friends. Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Donations may be made in Mr. Dickey’s memory to the Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospice, 350 N. EDMINSON, Donald H., 63, passed away November 11, 1997. Survived by wife, Dora; sons, Robert and Don, both of Tucson; daughters, Darlene Armbruster of Tucson, Susan Vachek of Monterey, CA and Joanna Edminson of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren; and sister, Pat Daniel of Tucson. Friends may call at Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd & Swan, on Friday, November 14, 1997 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. FRANKMAN, BERNICE W., age 94, died on November 6, 1997 in Santa Ana, CA. Preceded in death by her husband, Ray A. Survived by daughter, Barbara F. Starns, CA; son, Robert R. of Tucson; grandson, Thomas R., MO; and sisters, Floriene Scheier, SD and Faye Sherschligt, CO. A private memorial service will be held. Interment in East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

LALOND, Yvonne Mae, 72, passed away on November 8, 1997 in Kansas. A longtime resident of Tucson, she is survived by her children, Sharon of Tucson; Michael, Paul and Janet of Ohio; Greg of New York; and Michelle and William of Kansas. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Cyril’s Church, 4725 East Pima on Saturday, November 15 at 5:00 p.m.

MESA, Artemisa R., 82, of Tucson, passed away November 9, 1997. Preceded in death by husband, Carlos P. Mesa. Survived by daughters, Maria (Rene) Duarte, Lydia (Steve) Santa Cruz; sons, Richard (Alice), Henry, Hector, Art (Yolanda), Gilbert (Mercy), Carlos (Grace); sister, Alicia Halston; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. ROPEL, Edward Richard, 79, died November 10, 1997. He was born in Natrona, PA July 4, 1918. Preceded in death by father, Boleslaw Ropelewski; mother, Alexandria. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; son, Mark; sisters, Irene and Celelia; brother, Lawrence; and nieces and nephews. ROSE, Howard, 85, of Tucson, passed away November 10, 1997. Howard was a member of the Bahai Community of Tucson. A former Merchant Marine serving in all the Wars. A world traveler and adventurer. Howard was an exceptional person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends here and abroad. He is survived by sister, Murieland her husband Stanley Hecht; stepson, David and his wife Peggy Schlesinger; nephews, Frank and his wife Cheryl Hecht, Richard and his wife Rita Rose; nieces, Barbara and her husband Ted Moss, Betty Rose-Immel and her husband Bernd and their children, Nicole and Morgan; grandnephews and grandnieces, Jennifer and Stephen Moss, Christopher and RC Hecht and Tori Janes; grandson, Jason Schlesinger. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 1997 at Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd and Swan. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery.

SHIKULA, Stella, 90, died November 10, 1997. Mother of Dorothy Diedrich and John Shikula, both of Tucson; sister of Anna Kowalczuk of NJ and Ann Demuth of CA; grandmother of Robert Diedrich, Brian Diedrich and Patty Johnson; great-grandmother of Nicole Diedrich, James Diedrich, Kira Johnson and Alex Yocum Diedrich. Boyd E. Van Gilder, 68, died November 10, 1997. Husband of Eva Van Gilder; father of Charles Van Gilder of Houston, TX, Dennis Van Gilder of Westland, MI, Susan Fisher of Wyandotte, MI, Ursula Marek of Allen Park, MI; brother of Glenna Stone of Burton, MI; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Mass will be offered 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 14, 1997 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Burial will be in TMP East Lawn Cemetery. ANSELMAN, Ray Gene, 72, of Tucson died November 3, 1997. He is survived by a cousin, Robert Leininger of Scottsdale. Mr. Anselman was a retired regional manager for P.K. Wrigley Company. He was a World War II veteran on USS San Jacinto aircraft carrier. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Area, Asiatic Pacific (Seven Stars) and Philippine Liberation (Two Stars). Inurnment will take place on Friday, November 14, 1997 at Arizona National Cemetery of Arizona, Cave Creek, Arizona with military honors. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus.

BORBOA, Hortensia R., 54 of Tucson passed away November 7, 1997. Preceded in death by her husband, Louis P. Borboa. Survived by daughters, Monica Borboa, Elena (Daniel) Casillas; sons, Louie R. Borboa, Francisco Javier Borboa; sisters, Mary Helen, Carmen, Teresa, Polly, Florence, Gloria; brothers, Jesus, Manuel; also survived by two grandchildren, Diandra Borboa and Daniel Casillas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 1997 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Joan Harriet Chapman, 69 of Tucson passed away November 7, 1997. Preceded in death by her husband, Edward Chapman; and her parents, Earl and Amy Lyford. Survived by her son, Thomas Larson; granddaughter, Kim Larson; daughter, Linda Goundielock; granddaughter, Geneva Johnson; daughter Karen Grimm; and aunt, Adeline Benedict. Mrs. Chapman belonged to St. Pius X and was a Eucharist Minister. She was born in St. Paul, MN and had lived in Tucson since 1971. No services will be held. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

CLARK, Charles F. Sr. 77 of Mammoth died November 6, 1997 in Tucson. Survived by loving wife, Fidelia (”Phil”) of Mammoth; son, Charles (Michelle) of Oracle; brother, Joseph Lambert Clark of Tucson; grandsons, Brady Charles Clark and Garrett Marcus Clark. He was a member of the pioneer Clark family that came to the San Pedro Valley in 1873. He was born in Mammoth and lived there most of his life. He was a veteran of the Army 82nd Airborne, a member of the Elks, VFW and Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Mammoth. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery in Mammoth. FLEMING-HIOTT, Serena, 57, of Willcox, passed away November 5, 1997. Survived by daughters, Jeannie Anderson and Lorna Rathbone; sons, Kim Fleming and Rudolph Hairston; also survived by five grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 1997 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY (Center Chapel) 240 S. GRANILLO, Connie, age 77, of San Manuel, AZ died November 7, 1997. Born in Jerome, AZ 1919. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Granillo; brother, Victor (Connie) Chavez of Phoenix; daughter, Elena Torrez; son, Ernest (Beverly) Granillo; grandchildren, Troy Torrez, Robert (Jean) Granillo, Becky (Chad) Thimsen, Christina Torrez, Domonic Granillo, Cynthia Torrez; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Torrez, Nicholas and Alec Thimsen, Alexander Granillo. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 13 at St. Bartholomew’s Church in San Manuel.
