Jack Woodbury Cook, born in Muskegon, MI November 23, 1924, died in Tucson November 6, 1997. Jack was a World War II veteran and a retired employee of Sears. JONES, JR., Walter V., 80, of Tucson, died November, 6, 1997. McCONOCHIE, Marian Brenckle, a longtime Tucson resident, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 1997, just six weeks short of her 91st birthday. Marian, who was born in Milwaukee, WI, spent the last two and a half years of her life at Handmaker’s Home for Aging Adults in Tucson, following a severe stroke in March 1995. A lifelong stargazer and 1928 graduate of Milwaukee Downer College (now part of Lawrence University), Marian Brenckle taught high school English before her marriage. She and her husband raised their family in a Chicago suburb, where Marian was active in church and civic affairs, including a term as president of the League of Women Voters, as well as nature groups and book and bridge clubs. Marian and her husband also traveled widely in North America and Europe. In 1980, as a widow, Marian moved to Arizona, where many pleasant Tucson offerings claimed her interest: symphony concerts, plays, daily swims, and new friends. She was also an active supporter of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, the National Wildlife Federation, the Nature Conservancy, Tucson’s National Public Radio and National Educational Television stations, and the Casas Adobes Congregational Church. Marian McConochie is survived by her four children, Jean Alice of New York City, William A. of Eugene, OR, Roger P. of St. Charles, IL, and Carol Rauch of Philadelphia; and by two grandchildren. She will be buried beside her husband in Glen Ellyn, IL. For Marian’s friends in Tucson, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10 at the Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle Road. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for a contribution in Marian’s name to any of her civic interests.

KAPPUS, Dr. Harold C., 81, of Kenosha, WI, died at his home November 4, 1997. Born April 3, 1916 in Kenosha to Ray Kappus and Clara Peterson. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha, spending the winters in Tucson where he was a member of the Tucson Country Club. He was preceded in death (March 7, 1989) by his first wife, Ruth Matcha and a brother, John. Survived by his wife, Dorothy E.
