CARTER-MILLER, Belle, was born October 1, 1904 in Cherokee County, Baxter Springs, Kansas. She passed away October 14, 1997 in Atlanta, Georgia. Belle attended elementary and high school in Baxter Springs and received her B.A. from Kansas State Teachers’ College, Pittsburg, KS. She continued studies at the University of Arizona. Ms. Miller was a loving parent and a dedicated teacher. She taught elementary school in Crowberg, KS, Fredrick Douglass Elementary School in Baxter Springs, KS and numerous schools in Tucson public school system to include Dunbar, Carillo, Elizabeth Borton, Cragin and the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. Her love for children was never unwavering. Belle was a very devoted and active member in the Sharon Seventh Day Adventist Church. She served on the Usher Board as Pianist and in other positions. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Jean Williams; son-in-law, Ernest J. Williams, Jr; two grandchildren, Michael Williams and Michelle (Reginald Q.) Jones; one great-grandson, Corey Quinton Jones and many loving and dear friends. Friends may call at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. Richard Raymond ”Dick” Cummins, born December 14, 1923 in Mesa, Arizona, died tragically on August 14, 1997 in a traffic accident near Garden City, Kansas. Preceded in death by son, Kenneth Cummins. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bonnie; sons, Dr. R. Michael (Susan) and Dwight, both of Tucson; grandsons, Christopher and Timothy; brother, Robert Cummins and sister, Ila Lowe, both of Mesa; and many other relatives and friends. Dick graduated from Mesa High in 1942 and served in the US Army during World War II. He was a masonry contractor in Tucson for nearly 50 years. He was a master at his work and contributed to many Tucson landmarks. Dick was a loving member of his community. He participated, with his sons, in the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed his work in the Tucson Medical Center Auxiliary and was a devoted member of Catalina United Methodist Church and Homebuilders group. He also belonged to the VFW and Elks Club. Everyone who knew him will remember his loving, gentle ways. A Memorial Service will be held in the Catalina Methodist Church Sanctuary on Saturday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tucson Medical Center Auxiliary Remembrance Fund or to the Catalina United Methodist Church.
DeROCHER, Frank F., 71, of Tucson, passed away on October 15, 1997 after a long courageous battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife, Helen DeRocher; son, Frank E. DeRocher and daughters, Patricia Suida, Mary (Chuck) Soulliard and Denise Pecka. He will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren, Michelle, Mandi, Michael, Ashley and Alyssa. He is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Mattison of WI. Frank was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #180. HERKAL, Violette June, 86, formerly of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away October 11, 1997. She was born June 7, 1911. Preceded in death by daughter, Marlys, 28, in 1962 and son, Fred Jr., 34, in 1967 and sister and brothers. She married her high school sweetheart in 1931 in Hudson, Wisconsin. Tragically in 1992, legal problems arose because of her Alzheimer’s disease. She was a member of Dove of Peace Lutheran Church. Survived by herloving and devoted care giver for 61 years, husband for 63 years, Fred of Tucson; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Richard of Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, a sister and brother, nieces and nephews.

MASEK, Ronald William ”Bill” 66, of Tucson, died October 13, 1997. Bill was an insurance adjuster with Firemans Fund Insurance Company and then was stockholder and active adjuster with Catastrophe Consultants Inc. He was Past Loyal Gander of the Tucson Puddle of the International Order of the Blue Goose, BPOE Elks Lodge #2532 and Dorado Men’s Club. He was an avid golf enthusiast and enjoyed the Arizona desert and mountains during his 40 years in Tucson. SOULE, Jessie, 94, of St. Point, WI, passed away October 5, 1997. She moved back to WI in 1981 after living here for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Soule on January 29, 1970. She was a member of Catalina Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Dave) Church of Bessemer, MI, Dorothy (Mel) Berg of Mt. Home, AR, and Mavis Smith of Tucson; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
