Flora H. Waldrup, 85, died September 25, 1997. She was born October 14, 1911 in Wiggins, Mississippi. Upon graduation from Mississippi Southern College in Hattisburg, she taught school in Mobile, Alabama, and later moved to Douglas, Arizona, where she taught at Clauson and Stephenson Elementary Schools. She settled in Sunsites-Pearce, Arizona, after retirement where she did community volunteer work including working at the library and Chamber of Commerce. She was an active member of The Community Church of Sunsites and a member of the American Association of University Women. She is predeceased by her husband, Milton Waldrup; brother, Cecil Hatten; and sister, Ruth Mayo. Survivors are her brother, Lavon Hatten of Winona, MS; sister, Annie Rose Moore of Wiggins, MS; children, Charles A. Parks of Flagstaff; Betty A. Phagan of Douglas; and Barbara R. Henry of Tucson. Surviving grandchildren are Daniel Parks of Phoenix; Ted Parks of Durango, CO; Ginger Snyder of Phoenix; Elaine Griffin of San Diego, CA; Evelyn Thomas; Susan Hernandez; Bill Smith; Louis Smith; and Debra Thompson, all of Tucson; Lt. Edward Thompson of Oak Harbor, WA; and Kathy Thompson of El Paso. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside Service 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, at Pearce Cemetery, Pearce, Arizona. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. She was our strength and we will miss her very much.

ZEMBA, Dorothy Irene, 68, died September 26, 1997. Survived by sons, Joel and John ”Butch” Zemba; four grandchildren, and Joseph Davidson. Family Services will be held at a later date in Ohio. Local arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

DENNIS, Betty Jane, age 72, a 44 year resident of Tucson, passed away September 26, 1997. Born August 5, 1925 in Ashtabula, Ohio. Mrs. Dennis was the longest standing female member (42 years) of I.B.E.W. Local Union #1116 and retired from Tucson Electric Power Co. after 42 years. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Jane Smotherman and Yolanda B. Mitchell; grandchildren, John VanHorn, Jennifer Barnett, Daniel A., Dennis A. and Michelle N.Mitchell. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 1997 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Funeral service 9:00 a.m. Monday at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. Family requests donations be made to the Tucson Community Food Bank.

MINTZ, Morton, 74, of Tucson, died September 22, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Karen, Darlene and Connie; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Mr. Mintz was a US Air Force Veteran of WWII. Graveside Inurnment Services will be held on Monday, September 29, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 East Grant Road, with Military Honors. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

MORA, Edwin, 35, of Tucson, died September 26, 1997. He is survived by his friend, Frank Zak. Services will be private. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

QUATTLEBAUM, James C., E/5 RETIRED USAF; aka (Q.B.); passed September 24, 1997 in Tucson, AZ. James was born to Horace and Rachel Quattlebaum on April 24, 1930 in Columbia, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Ethel M. Quattlebaum of Tucson; sister, Patricia Quattlebaum of Michigan; children, John H. (Madras) Burgess, Gene E. (Marion) Burgess, Jerry L. Burgess, all of Texas, Douglas R. (Alice) Burgess, Joseph (Barbara) Robinson of Tucson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including George W. Tyler, Q.C. Tyler, Dorothy J. Tyler, all of Texas. ”Q.B.” retired from the USAF in March, 1973 and the AAFES at Davis-Monthan AFB in 1994. He was a member of Prince Chapel A.M.E. Church. Visitation Monday, September 29, 1997 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Services Tuesday, September 30, 1997, at 10:00 a.m. at Prince Chapel A.M.E., 602 South Stone, Rev. Lee N. May officiating. Burial in South Lawn Cemetery, with Military Honors from DMAFB. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donation to the Prince Chapel A.M.E. Church, General Fund. ”GOODBYE TO A LOVING ”BUDDY” GOOD FRIEND”.

REIFF, Doris B., 73, died September 25, 1997. Preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eugene Reiff. Survived by her loving son, David G. Reiff; brother, Gordon Bingham; two sisters, Iverene Ebling and Lillian Brockmann; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Graveside service at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. David John Seltzer, 71, died in Tucson, AZ September 24, 1997. Formerly of Cliffside Park, NJ. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Faye; sons, Cliff A. (Elaine) and Brad M. (Tina) Seltzer; six grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held 9:00 a.m. Sunday, September 28, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. A private family committal will be held on the ”Mountains High.”

Richard ”Dickie” Stickney, 80, (admitted to 79), of Tucson, and London, England, died September 22, 1997 in Tucson. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Forbes Stickney; his son, Francis Robin Christopher Stickney; his grandson, Jasper Oliver Stickney; his daughter-in-law, Lucy Bying Stickney, all of London, England; and his cousin, Madeleine Moore of Tucson. Born August 7, 1917 in Methuen, Mass., he was the son of Sarah Currier Woolley and William Arthur Stickney. He attended Andover and Yale. He spent his early adult years in Florence, Italy. During WWII, Dickie trained special mountain troops in Colorado and served in the Pacific and European Theaters. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was captured, held as a prisoner for six months and subsequently liberated by General Patton’s troops. Dickie’s professional life in the boating industry included boatyards and fish and oyster farms in Italy and England. He was also involved in the formation of the Mill Reef Club in Antiqua. For the last several years, Dickie has spent time in Tucson among his many friends and mates. His kind and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him and we salute this jolly good fellow! Friends may make contributions in his name to the charity of their choice. A farewell to Dickie will be held on Sunday, September 28, 1997 at 5:30 p.m. in his Tucson home. VALENZUELA, Jesus M., 74, of Tucson, passed away September 25, 1997. Survived by daughters, Anita Sanchez and Priscilla Merritt; sons, David, Conrad, and Jesus Valenzuela; sisters, Paula Nevares, Eva Rodriguez, Lucy Benetiz; brother, Juan Valenzuela. Stepfather of Mary O’Hagin, Helen Quintero, Rosemary Amarillas, Frances Young, Edna Butierez, Johnny Young and Lillian Singleton. 40+ grandchildren and 30+ great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 1997, CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC., (South Chapel), 4:00 to 10:00 p.m., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Santa Cruz Church. Evelyn L. Wong, 74, formerly of Marana, passed away September 23, 1997 in Tucson. Survived by son, Gary James Wong; daughter, Debbie N. Wong-Baird and son-in-law, John C. Baird, Jr., all of Tucson; brother, Donald Lim of San Jose, CA; sister-in-law, Mona Wong of Marana; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, James K. Wong. They were long time cotton farmers in Marana. Service Sunday 2:00 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY. Friends may call one hour prior to service time. Interment to follow Evergreen Cemetery. Oscar A. ”Gordo” Amado Jr., 25, of Tucson, passed away January 17, 1998. Preceded in death by grandfather, Enrique Amado; grandparents, David and Angie Anaya and Antonia Amado. Survived by wife, Georgina Marie Amado, Adrianna, Anthony and Anissa; father, Oscar A. Amado; mother, Angie Amado; sister, Gracie Amado. He will always be remembered by many friends and family. Especially in and around roping arenas, to which most of his life was dedicated to. BLACKBURN, Britt Len, 22, of Mesa, a technician with Sub-Zero Refrigerators, died January 17, 1998 in Mesa, AZ. Survived by mother and step-father, Jo and Jeff Grant of Tucson, AZ; father, Leonard Blackburn of Mesa, AZ; brother, Matthew T. Grant of Tucson, AZ; Kelli C. Blackburn of Tempe, AZ. BURCH, Joseph Eugene, was born on June 3, 1917 in Winfield, KS. A research chemist, Mr. Burch retired to Tucson, AZ, where he died on January 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Florence Moffett Burch, and by many family members and friends. At his request no Services were held. Cremation by Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd & Swan.

DOWNEY, Claude D., 88 of Tucson, passed away on January 18, 1998. Survived by his wife of 33 years, Ena Mae; daughter, Betty (Fred) Zallman of MI, Myrna (Larry) Sullivan of MI, Karn (Ray) Woods of AZ; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Florine Cooper of MI. GREENE, Margarete, Born November 19, 1913 in Germany. She moved to Tucson 15 years ago from New Jersey. She was active in the Tanque Verde Arts and Crafts group. Mrs. Greene is survived by her daughters, Christa (Steven) Meyers and Margot (John) Anello; grandchildren, Jeff (Stacy) Meyers, Susan (Burnie) Southerton, Karen Meyers, Shane, Daniel, and Gabriel Anello; great-grandchildren, Karlyn and Kyal Meyers, Tamra and Connor Southerton, Jackson O’Neill; one brother, Wilhelm (Ellie) Rahn. Funeral Service Thursday, January 22, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E. Tanque Verde Rd. GROSHANS, Cindabeth, beloved mother, sister and daughter died January 18. She grew up in Wisconsin and spent most of her adult life in Tucson. She touched the lives of many people in her career as a registered nurse. She will live forever in the hearts of her survivors. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM on January 23. Gifts are being received for the memorial fund at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 9252 E. 22nd, 85710.

HARDERS, Robert Arthur, 91, of Tucson, died January 19, 1998. Survivors include his daughter, Sharon (Ted) Galkowski and grandson, Ted Jr. all of Apache Junction; one sister, Ruth De Bois of New Hampshire. Robert received his bachelors degree in engineering from NYU. He then started working for US Steel in Pittsburgh, retiring in 1969 as chief industrial engineer. He was an active member of the Rotary Club in Pittsburgh as well as the Gideon Society of Tucson. Memorial Service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd, Friday, January 23, 1998 at 1:00 p.m.
