David Carl Simpson
David Carl Simpson, 65, was born October 31, 1937 in Orion, Michigan. On January 19, 2003, listening to their love and laughter, surrounded by his grandchildren, Sara and Amy Simpson, and their mother Tracy, William “Jay” Rush, Mary Nell Simpson and his children Mike Simpson and Susan Rush, and his wife of 42 years, Manila “Nell” Simpson, he entered his heavenly estate, even as a prodigal returns to his Father.
We will miss our Pawpaw, Dad and Hubby who set for us a Christian example in living. His children and grandchildren cherish that Dave leaves a legacy of a lifetime giving selflessly in the name of the Lord.
“But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
Dave spent most of his life dedicated to serving the Lord. He was a Boys Brigade leader in Detroit, Michigan. After moving to Yuma in 1969, he actively served in local Baptist churches in many capacities including everything from Song Leader and Youth Choir Leader and Bus Driver, to Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, as well as Missions. He served locally in jail ministries, preaching at the Lower Lights rescue Mission, and pioneered a Baptist Mission in San Luis from a school bus, refurbished by he and his Christian brothers. He served as past president of the Gideons Camp of Yuma. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Dave always shared his passion of those tunes that rang out of going to our heavenly home. “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14).
Dave also enjoyed giving even in his favorite pastimes of cooking and automotive care. He always liked to bless those around him with his culinary creations, as well as helping to make sure their precious vehicles ran as sweetly so. Another example of his Christian life. “Casting all your cares upon Him, for He caress for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
As our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend had especially requested, a praise and worship service was led by his pastor, Brother Charles Tyson, musicians Jack and Kenny Whitson, also making it memorable was Sherd Roberts coming in from Waterford, MI.
Special people adding to the quality of his life in recent months, to whom we are forever grateful, include Dr. Kamal Ahmed, Dr. Stanton Cohen, Dr. Mohammad Khan, Dr. Sheikh Masood, the staff of Kachina Pharmacy, and the staff of Gambro Healthcare, as well as those of The Salvation Army, Majors Mr. and Mrs. Lo.
A special thanks for the grace of their presence and servant hearts to Tracy and Carol.
A memorial was held for David Carl Simpson on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Memorial Chapel. Pastor Charles O. Tyson officiated the service.
In lieu of flowers, Dave had requested that all donations be sent to the Youth Department of Immanuel Baptist Church, 1000 E. 24th St. Yuma, Arizona.
