BAILEY, Helen M., died December 19, 1997 in Tucson. Born in Portland, OR, November 19, 1907 to Edward and Martha Deckman. She was a graduate of Colon High School, Colon Panama – Canal Zone. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Society of Military Widows and a Master Bridge Player. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Archer T. Bailey, her daughter, Artell M. Hoey and her brother, Bernhard Deckman. She is survived by her son, E. T. ”Bill” Bailey and wife Alberta of Sumner, WA; three granddaughters and a great-grandson. Memorial Services will be held at the Manor at Midvale on January 2, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations to your favorite charity be made in her name.
BAKER, Maude C., age 76 of Tucson, AZ passed away December 31, 1997. BALL, Robert G., 86, died December 27, 1997. BROWN III, John L., 71, Tucson, died December 27, 1997 in St. Joseph’s Hospital. He had cancer. He was born March 31, 1926, in Midwest, WY. to John L. Brown Jr. and Alma Ray Brown. He attended elementary school and high school in Geneseo, KS and served with the U.S. Army in Korea from 1944 to 1946. He graduated from McPherson College and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University in 1951. He was a consulting engineer in Topeka andin Marysville, KS for many years. He was an active leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, serving as cubmaster for six years and leading a group to the Philmont Scout Ranch. Later he worked on railroad construction projects in Texas, Kansas, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Wyoming, North Carolina, New Mexico, Colorado and Idaho. He was with the Kansas Department of Transportation for about a year. From 1981 until his retirement, October 1, John was with the Arizona Department of Transportation, working in Tucson, Globe and Phoenix. He was a member of the KSU Alumni Association, The American Legion, United Methodist Church and a 50-year member both of the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Kansas and Royal Neighbors of America. He is survived by his wife, Faye; sons, Kevin and Steven; niece, Karen (Jerry) Sheppard and nephew, Ray (Sue) Cline, other relatives and many friends. A celebration of life reception will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 4, at the LaPaloma Country Club, 3660 E. Sunrise Drive. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

CARET, Gary Lee (September 26, 1944-December 27, 1997) loved life and left it too soon, before he had fully explored his many interests in music, computers, cooking, bird-watching, photography, writing, literature and film. For 15 years he was a popular performer in the annual Tucson Press Club Gridiron Show and wrote many skits and songs for the show over the years. Those who saw him perform will always remember his bright smile, rich voice and infectious laugh. During the last year of his life, he showed true nobility and courage in his battle with cancer and when the battle was lost he accepted defeat with grace. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Brubaker of Twenty-Nine Palms, CA and his longtime companion, Carol Nowotny-Young of Tucson, who will greatly miss him. Please join in a celebration of Gary’s life on Saturday, January 3, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Goddard Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4831 E. 22nd St, Tucson. Margaret Sheldon, 89, passed away December 29, 1997 in Tucson. She was born on March 10, 1908 in Fairfield, NB. Survived by one daughter, Shirley Ann Sheldon. Keenan Sheldon, ministered to Rincon Congregational Church for 22 years, and she served on the Board of Directors for the Beacon Foundation for 25 plus years. WILKINSON, Ralph Edward, 47, of Tucson, died December 23, 1997. Preceded in death by his father, Leroy Wilkinson Sr. Survived by loving wife of 28 years, Rose; two children, Ralph Jr. (Tina) and James; one grandchild, Cory; three brothers, Leroy Jr. George and Larry; two sisters, Trudy (Tom) Schuster and Linda McNillis and his mother, Mary Wilkinson and several nieces and nephews. Ralph was a Master Sargent in the Air Force for 20 years with numerous stateside and overseas assignments, including the Republic of Vietnam 1970 – 71. CRIPE, Bruce, 71, of Tucson, passed away December 28, 1997. He was born in Walkerton, Indiana. Preceded in death by mother, father and brother. Survived by his wife, Yvonne; children, Bruce D. Gary (Theresa) and Cheryl (William) Thompson and grandchildren, Landon, William, Katheryne and David. Mr. Cripe served during World War II in Central Europe.
