Robert F. Flores, 91, of Tucson, passed away December 22, 1997. Preceded in death by wife, Maria Yslas Flores; and brother, Ronald Flores. Survived by sons, Robert Y. LARMOUR, Marjorie Evelyn, March 21, 1915 in Muscatine, IA to December 17, 1997 in Tucson, AZ. Survived by her husband of 64 years, Carl G. Larmour; daughters, Marjorie Anne Swindle (Don) and Annette Sams (William); son, Paul Larmour(Margaret); eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Herbert Spring (Josephine) and numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie was a member of Eastern Star and PEO, Chapter AE. She was a legal secretary and participated in family businesses of Speedway Variety, Broadway Variety & Hardware, Larmour Construction Co., and The Thunderbird and The Ponderosa Motels in Williams, AZ. She retired from the Pima County Health Department. The position to which she gave supreme love and devotion and for which she will be most deeply missed was as wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was an active member of Catalina United Methodist. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 29, at 1:00 p.m. at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to your favorite charity or Catalina United Methodist Church. She will be fondly remembered for her love, loyalty, honesty, and friendship. MADDOX, Mary Marie Fulton, passed away December 23, 1997. She was born in Fayette County, IL, daughter of John T. and Ada Robinson Fulton. She lived in South Bend, IN before coming to Tucson in 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Odbert; four brothers, William, Fred, Donald, and Voyne, and one sister, Rochelle. Survived by two brothers, Derald Fulton and wife Daisy of Tucson, and John Fulton and wife Carla of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Mary has many loving nieces and nephews who were always a big part of her family, and one sister-in-law, Betty Fulton (widow of Fred) of Tulsa, OK. She was a life master in bridge and that was one of her great joys and pleasures. She worked as a nurse for a doctor in South Bend for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Tucson and the Schuyler Rebekah Lodge #39. Services will be held at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Friday, December 26, 1997 at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Tolman officiating. Interment at South Lawn Cemetery. MELLEN, Robert E. Mr. Robert E. Mellen of Tucson passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 1997. He was a resident of Arizona since 1960 and is survived by his loving wife, Gail Mellen; three daughters, Susan Barefoot, Cindy Arrebollo and Ruthann Poole; one son, Steven Mellen; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Lloyd Mellen of Michigan and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mellen served in both Marine Corp. and Navy Reserve before going to work at Duval/Cyprus Mines of Sahuarita. He was retired after 25 years of service with Cyprus.

Ross Edward Ritter, age 82, died Monday, December 22, 1997. He was born on March 5, 1915 in Clinton, MO. He was a resident of Tucson for 43 years. Survived by wife, Mary J. Ritter of Tucson; six children, Carole Mann of Tucson, Judy Cunningham of Springfield, MO, Dallas Ritter of San Dimas, CA, Dr. Drew Ritter of Delta, CO, Kevin Ritter of Tucson and Mark Ritter of Tucson; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Kauffman of Elkhart, IN. He will always be remembered for his unconditional Love for his children and his sense of humor. His playful helping spirit will be surely missed.

TANNER, Clara Lee, Educator, Professor Emeritas at the University of Arizona, died at home on December 22. Born in North Carolina in 1905, she was an Arizona resident for 90 years. She received a B.A. degree in Archaeology at the University of Arizona and was one of the first three students there to receive a Masters Degree in Archaeology (1928). She pursued Graduate studies at the National University of Mexico and at the Oriental Institute in Chicago and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Arizona in 1983. She was appointed to the faculty of the University of Arizona in 1928 and through a half century of teaching (retiring in 1978) she offered courses in all areas of archaeology and ethnology. For many years she has been the recognized authority on the arts and crafts of the Native Americans in the Southwest and with insight she was able to bring an appreciation of the artistic achievements of these people to the public at large in the United States and abroad. Among her numerous awards were the Sharlot Hall Award as the Outstanding Woman of the State in 1985, and in 1993 she was given a National Lifetime Achievement in the Crafts Arts Award sponsored by the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her many publications have been praised by professionals and the public and her major works have been distributed in 85 foreign countries. She won eight Arizona Press Women First Awards and First Place in 1969 and 1974 from the National Federation of Press Women for her books on Southwest Indian craft arts, Southwest Indian paining, and Apache baskets. This remarkable lady uniquely combined the attributes of inspiring teacher, outstanding scholar, stimulating writer, and dedicated public speaker to serve with vigor and grace both the profession of anthropology and the artistic creativeness of the Native Americans of the American Southwest. Clara Lee can only be thought of together with her devoted husband John, who survives her. Other survivors include her daughter, Sandy and son-in-law, Karl Elers; grandson and wife Karl and Jodye Elers; granddaughter, Louisa Elers all of Houston; and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward P. Fraps of Dallas, and several nieces and nephews.
At her request, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Clara Lee Tanner Publishing Fund at The University of Arizona Press, 1230 North Park Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85719, which will continue to further her lifelong interest in the importance of “the sharing of knowledge.”
WHITING, Donald Sr., died at his home surrounded by family members Sunday, December 21, 1997. Don was born in Plainsville, NJ to Donald and Helen Moran. At age two he was adopted by his Aunt Kathryn and Uncle Brian F. Whiting. A retired Air Force Officer, Don volunteered at the Pima Air Museum and for Pet Therapy. He is survived by his loving wife, Cassie; children, Annabelle, Brian, Donnie, Jackie; and two grand children, Ryan and Reid. Anna Marie Adams, 70, of Tucson, died Saturday, December 20, 1997. She is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Debbie (Paul) Rogers of McAllen, TX, H. Brian (Jenifer) Adams of Tucson; grandchildren, Sarah Rogers, Adam Rogers, George Adams, Carol Adams; brother, Joseph Tena of Tucson; sister Beatrice Gordon of Nogales, AZ. Mrs. Adams had been active at Our Mother of Sorrows Church and School and a member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority. CHESNIK, Joseph, 95, a former business owner in Milwaukee who lived in Tucson for the last 26 years, passed away December 19, 1997. One of seven brothers, Joseph was born December 3, 1902, in Vele Mune, Croatia, formerly Yugoslavia. In 1913, he and his brother, Michael T. Chesnick – a Tucson builder/developer who died here in 1985 – immigrated as youths to the United States, sent with $25 each from their mother. Both settled in Wisconsin, where Joseph worked as a carpenter, home decorator, electrician, mason and machinist. He later owned two bars in Milwaukee and helped organize one of the city’s largest tamburitza orchestras. In 1950, he married his wife, Mary, in Waukegan, Ill. In 1971, the couple moved to Tucson, where Joseph retired but continued to help family with carpentry and other skills. He was fluent in several languages, and a standout gymnast and bowler in his younger years. Joseph is survived by his wife Mary of Tucson; four brothers, Frank of Grantsburg, WI; Carl of Greendale, WI; Rudolph of San Diego; Edward of Santa Rosa, CA; a sister, Mary of Victorville, CA; and numerous nephews and nieces. No services will be held.

POSEY, Edward Lamar, 50, born in Casa Grande, AZ, March 29, 1947, died December 17, 1997 at his home in Tucson. STARKINS, Ann P., 78, passed away December 22, 1997, after a long illness. Mother of Dennis of Phoenix and Arlene (Dennis) Cleary of Tucson.
