McDONALD, Daniel Melville, was born in a country tree claim home 3 1/2 miles west of Ellendale, North Dakota on August 16, 1895. He attended the Normal Industrial School in Ellendale, taking the college preparatory course in three years. World War I came on and he joined the Marines for two years. After the war, he returned to Minneapolis and then Duluth, starting a career in auto parts. Although his first two marriages ended in divorce, through them he became the proud father of three children. Malcolm and Adair were born of his first marriage to Harryet Herr and Patricia from his second to Vivian Booth. He worked two jobs through the depression to try to meet his obligation to these two families. Daniel then married Marie Burgelos, but lost her to cancer.
