DIXON, Marveline Humble, born December 18, 1942, passed away January 20, 1998 in Yates Center, KS of a heart attack. She grew up in Tucson. She is survived by her husband, Jack Dixon; mother and stepfather, Helen and Merl Dixon; three children, Debra (Bob) Sipos of Tucson, Thomas (Diana) Bridge of Tampa, FL, Billy Bridge of Yates Center, KS and nine grandchildren. Marveline graduated from Sunnyside High School and was a member of Emery Park Church. Donations may be made in her honor to the American Heart Association. Visitation will be Friday, January 23, 1998 in Yates Center. Cremation will follow.
EBRIGHT, II, David Douglas Mathew, of Avra Valley, formerly of Tucson. Born November 30, 1975 entered into heaven January 17, 1998. Survived by father, David Douglas Mathew (Anne) Ebright, Sr. of Tucson; mother, Judy (Dennis) Beye; and sister, Cheryl Ebright of Casa Grande; several stepsisters; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs R.N. Ebright of Mesa; grandfather, Chuck Coplan of Show Low; also survived by fiance, Rose Moore; and 2 1/2 year old daughter, Monic. Will be sadly missed by many more relatives and friends. David was a shop foreman for Econo-Lube & Tune in Tucson. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 24, 1998. ELLIS, Sr., Robert G., 72, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 1998. Survived by his wife of 25 years, Millie A. Ellis; mother-in-law, Ruth Heim; children, Robert G. JOHNSTON, Gay Slonecker, passed away January 20, 1998. Gay S. Johnston was born in Benedict, NE, April 16, 1919 to Howard and Mabel Slonecker, who preceded her in death. She graduated from University of Nebraska, in 1942 with a degree in Home Economics. She then taught school for three years before moving to Arizona for health reasons. She enrolled in the University of Arizona for the study of engineering. A National Home Builders Award of Merit, started Gay on a career of designing homes. Professional recognition was given her designs for both medium priced and luxury homes. She worked for Lusk Homes, Rysdale Architect Corporation and Carl Lamar John as Architectural Designer/ Draftsman. Later, she owned and operated her own drafting and design company. She designed numerous apartment projects, commercial buildings, stores, and restaurants such as Scordatos. In 1961, she was voted one of the top 10 business women in the nation by the America Business Women’s Association and Local woman of the year by the Tucson Saguaro Chapter of American Business Women’s Association. She retired in 1984. Gay leaves a daughter, Bobbi Damiani of Portland, OR. In addition, a brother, Roger D. Slonecker of Colorado Springs, CO and Tucson, AZ. No Funeral will be held. KASPER, Frederick J., born in Chicago, Illinois August 19, 1916. Died January 18, 1998 in Phoenix, AZ. Frederick attended Rockhurst College, Kansas City, MO. He started his career at NBC Reception Department, 1939 in Chicago. Spent four years with Garry Moore on his radio show. In 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corp, Armed Forces Radio Service and was sent to Trinidad, British West Indies. At the end of the war, he returned to ABC as a staff announcer and worked with Don McNeill’s ”Breakfast Club” and with Johnny Olsen’s ”Ladies Be Seated”. He also had numerous and varied other announcing duties at the station. In 1948, he switched to T.V. and worked on the program ”Super Circus” and Jim Moran’s ”Courtesy Hour”. He was also Paul Harvey’s radio announcer. After 40 years in radio and T.V. announcing, Mr.Kasper retired in 1984 and eventually moved to Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia P. Kasper; daughter, Virginia K. McPartlin; son, Frederick H. Kasper; and three grandchildren, Josephine McPartlin, Frederick H. Jr. and Josephine Kasper. Ruth Knupp and Kenneth Naylor Clark
Ruth Knupp Clark, 53, died December 31, 1997 in Panama. Ruth was born on May 26, 1944 in Berwyn, IL to Marian and Emil Knupp. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1966 with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Ruth married Kenneth N. Clark of Champaign on August 20, 1966. Ruth and Ken lived in Yugoslavia and San Francisco before moving to Tucson in 1969, where their children, Stephanie and Stephen Clark, were born and raised.
Ruth is survived by her children Stephanie and Stephen Clark of Tucson, her brother Dr. Robert Knupp and his family of Chicago, her mother, Marian Knupp of Berwyn, IL and her mother-in-law, Mary S. Clark of Champaign, IL.
Ruth created unique pillows, table linens and clothing using molas from Panama and other Latin American materials. She sold these and other artisan treasures through her business, Ruth Clark Linens.
Ruth loved her family, her work, entertaining the many international visitors of the Clark family, and traveling. She was a generous person, always willing to help a friend. Ruth will be missed by all, but forgotten by none.
Kenneth Naylor Clark, 56, died December 31, 1997 in Panama. Ken was born on August 12, 1941 in Fostoria, Ohio to Mary and Kenneth Clark. He was raised in Champaign, IL where he also attended college at the University of Illinois and received a Bachelor’s of Architecture in 1964. He then attended the UC Berkeley and earned a Master’s degree of Architecture in 1966. Ken married Ruth Lois Knupp of Berwyn, IL on August 20, 1966. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Yugoslavia and later returned to work towards his professional degree in San Francisco, CA. In 1967, Ken joined the faculty at the College of Architecture at the University of Arizona. Most recently he was Head of the Graduate Planning program. In 1975 Ken founded an exchange program between La Salle University in Mexico City and the U of A’s College of Architecture. This exchange program is still active.
Ken is survived by his children, Stephanie and Stephen of Tucson, his mother, Mary Clark of Champaign, IL and his mother-in-law Marian Knupp of Berwyn.
Ken loved his family, the history of architecture and planning in Latin America, travel, his students and colleagues, and native art in all forms. An outstanding friend and mentor who had a passion of life who affected all who surrounded him, Ken has left an indelible mark on the lives of many.
A Memorial Service for Ruth and Ken will be held on Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. In the Main Gallery of The Tucson Museum of Art, 140 N. Main. A Memorial international study/travel scholarship in their names has been established in the College of Architecture at the University of Arizona.

Jack A. Plaisted, age 77, of Tucson, passed away January 17, 1998. Jack was born on March 14, 1920 in Des Moines, IA. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He moved to Tucson from Des Moines, IA. In 1962, he was employed by Miles Printing Company for 55 years until his retirement in 1995. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, James A. in 1967. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gladys L.; son, John (Sharon); and grandchildren, James A., Jacob A., Jesse A., Ivy A. all of Tucson. Curtis P. Vester, Jr., (Lt. Col, USAF Ret.), 77, born December 17, 1920 in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away January 21, 1998. Husband to Patricia Ann Vester; respected father of Curtis P. Vester, III; father-in-law to Melissa Lynn Vester; and loving Papau to Zachary Ryan Vester. Curtis grew up in Paris, Tennessee. After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force (known as the U.S. Army Air Corps.) He was a survivor of the Attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, after which he came to Tucson to complete flight training at Ryan Field. During WWII he served as aB-29 Pilot in the Pacific. Curtis graduated from Edwards Air Force Base Test Pilots Training in July of 1953. Upon completion he was stationed at Boeing (Seattle), Hong Kong Air Craft and Engineering Co. and Boeing (Wichita). From 1962 – 1968 he served as contracting officer at Boeing (Wichita) and Air Force Plant Representative at Hughes Aircraft in Tucson. In 1968 he retired from a contracting position in the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends made during his service career. Oscar A. ”Gordo” Amado Jr., 25, of Tucson, passed away January 17, 1998. Preceded in death by grandfather, Enrique Amado; grandparents, David and Angie Anaya and Antonia Amado. Stephanie Blidy, born January 7, 1918 in Chicago, IL passed away January 20, 1998. Preceded in death by her husband, Peter and son, William. Survived by her son, Donald Blidy of Tucson; grandson, Michael Blidy of Tucson; brother, Walter Nykeha of Chicago, IL. We will all miss you deeply. Stephanie was a longtime member and one of the founders of St. Michael’s Ukranian Catholic Church. She was a big help in raising funds by donating her time, energy and money. He is survived by his three children, Tami Rozema, Roni Sue Coffaro, and Matthew Coffaro Jr.; his fiancee, Mary Lou Ellingsworth all of Tucson; his brother, Stephen Coffaro of South Dakota; his sister, Madeleine Coffaro of Berlin, Germany; and his extended family, Gene and Jana Murphy and children of Prescott, AZ. Matt was a sales and businessman in Tucson for 30 years, the latter 12 years at Broadway Carpet. He was a great father, mate and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
