MARTIN, Loetta Curran, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Friday, March 13, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Dr. S. Clark Martin of Tucson; one son, Lee Martin (Dyan) of Orange, CA; one daughter, Gretta Boshara (Robert) of Houston, TX; three brothers, Leigh Curran, Benjamin Curran, and Charles Curran, all of Mason City, Iowa; two sisters, Blanche Fiedler of Moline, IL and Lucile Cannon of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Kimberly Boshara of NY City, NY, Stuart Martin and Karlina Martin, both of Orange, CA. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Curran and one sister, Grace Whisler. Loetta was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she and her husband met in 1943, as members of the Carillon Class. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on September 10, 1994. She was a member of the University of Arizona Faculty Wives and an Auxilian at Tucson Medical Center for nearly 30 years. Mrs. Martin was born in Mason City, Iowa, June 18, 1915. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State Teachers College, pursued graduate studies in Iowa and at the University of Southern California. She taught English, speech, and drama in Iowa before moving to Tucson to teach at Safford Jr. High School in 1943. She will be remembered for her love of people, especially children, flowers, birds, and literature. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, March 16, 1998 at the First United Methodist Church, 915 E. 4th St., with the Rev. David Devereaux officiating.
MOTZKIN, Harry M., 77, of Tucson, finished his earthly journey March 14, 1998. The celebration of his life will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Our Mother of Sorrows Church. Bishop Manuel Moreno will officiate along with Msgr. Thomas Cahalane and a host of priests from throughout the Diocese of Tucson. Interment will be in Holy Hope Cemetery. DADISMAN, Lawrence ”Larry” Dale, 74, died in Tucson on March 12, 1998. He was born in Grafton, WV on May 25, 1923 and moved to Tucson in 1930. He attended Sam Hughes Elementary School, Mansfield Jr. High School and graduated from Tucson High School in 1941. Following graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps serving as a Flight Officer, and after serving his country during WWII, studied at Mexico City University and received his Bachelors in Engineering from the U of A. During the 1950's Larry worked part-time at his parents' Redwood Lodge Restaurant and Bar in Tucson. Helater worked for Pan American Airlines and in Viet Nam as an engineer. Larry owned and operated Kino Engineering and Surveyors until is death and is credited with designing a number of familiar buildings in Tucson.
Larry was active in the Tucson High School Badger Foundation, the Tucson Press Club and his professional engineering society. He held a life-long enthusiasm in aviation and antique automobiles.
He is preceded in death by his father, Percy Dadisman; and by mother, Alice Dadisman Langan. Survived by sisters, Martha (Louis) Menager of Tucson and Joyce (Harold) Wright of Taft, CA, nieces, Donna (Don) Summers of Mesa, Carol (Richard) Livingston of Flagstaff; nephew, Louis (Mary) Menager of Tucson and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 1998 at the Elks Club, 2404 E. River Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tucson High School Badger Foundation or Elks Scholarship Foundation (2404 E. River Rd, Tucson, AZ 85718), in memory of Lawrence Dadisman.
JOHNSON, Robert Marion ”Bob”, 73, died March 7, 1998. He is survived by his Arizona ”Family” Herschel and Sonia Sowers, Christine Ramsay, Laura, Rebekah and Joshua Bowen and Lisa Ludwig. Bob grew up in Tennessee and Virginia and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In the 1950's he moved to Tucson and worked at Hughes Aircraft from 1955-1986. Bob enjoyed hunting, camping, and being outdoors and spent his retirement years on his 40 acres of ”Paradise” north of Tucson. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. TIBBITS, Jean Cantril Michael Wilson, 86, died Friday in Tucson amid loved ones and friends whose lives she had blessed. A former resident of San Manuel, AZ, Tacoma, WA and Tucson. Jean was the foundation of our family, was treasured by her friends for her graciousness and joy, and quietly and gently taught us the wisdom of love, kindness and faith. We and countless others whose honor it was to know Jean cherish those lessons and her time with us. Jean was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Carter Wilson and George G. Tibbits. TRUJILLO, Teresa Padias, a native of Tucson, was born April 19, 1927. She peacefully passed away at Holy Family Hospice on March 11, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Jose R. Trujillo; her children, Jose Jr., Albert, and David; her brother, Rudy Padias; his wife, Alejandrina; many loving nephews, nieces and friends. BESS, W.W. ”Bill” Jr., 72, of Tucson, died March 7, 1998. Wilber (Bill) G. Davis, of Green Valley and Tucson passed away on March 6, 1998. Mr. Davis was born in Circleville, Ohio on May 5, 1934. He was retired from the Air Force with twenty years of service and a Veteran of the Vietnam war. Mr. Davis was also an active member of the local Green Valley and Tucson bowling communities. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Betty L. Davis of Gulfport, MS whom he had met while stationed at Keesler AFB in 1954. Other surviving relatives include his mother, Mrs. Mabel Davis, of Green Valley; brother, Mr. Jefferson Davis (Cheryl) of Tucson; son, Alfred (Susan); and granddaughter, Rachelle, whom he adored so much, of Tucson; son, Thomas of New Orleans, LA; sister-in-law, T.J. Ragland of Green Valley along with the many, many friends throughout Green Valley and Tucson. Memorial Services will be held on March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Davis-Monthan AFB Chapel #1. FISHER, Derek Luther, 17, died Monday, March 9, 1998 just seven weeks shy of his eighteenth birthday. MCELVAIN, Thornton (Mac) H., III, of Tucson and Sante Fe, died at home in the morning of Thursday, March 12, 1998 surrounded by his family and friends. Mary Kingsland Smith Sisson, 97, died peacefully March 10, 1998. Mary was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, December 19, 1900. Her husband, John W. Sisson, preceded her in death August 18, 1934.Although born in Minnesota, Mary spent most of her younger years in New York City. She loved the fine arts, often attending operas at the Metropolitan and concerts at the Carnegie Hall. She was artistic. In New York City she took art lessons and had permission to copy art masterpieces at the Metropolitan Art Museum without guards watching her. Mary spent her married life in Titisville and Indian River City, Florida. Mary traveled extensively after her husband's death. She spent time in pre-World War II days with her uncle Fritz Gilfillen, who was a concert violinist in Bavaria, Germany. Mary escaped from Europe on one of the last commercial steamships leaving Europe in 1941. Mary moved to Tucson around 1950 because of her humidity asthma. She loved guest ranches and horseback riding. She loved Mt. Lemmon and for years made weekly trips there to go hiking. She loved photography and was a long time member of the Tucson Camera Club and received several prizes for her photographic work. She belonged to the ”Alliance Francaise” and spoke French fluently up to her death. Mary was a long time member of Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She is survived by her dear friend and guardian, B. Wayne Randall; her dear friend and conservator, Betsy Conner, their families who grew to know and love Mary; her faithful housekeeper of many years, Liz Tabb; dear friends, Carol McBride, Gizelle Nelson, Elma Lauper and others. Mary is remembered by all who knew her as a ”sweet lady”. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams.
