Wilber ”Bill” G. Davis, Of Green Valley and Tucson passed away on March 6, 1998. Mr. Davis was born in Circleville, Ohio on May 5, 1934. He was retired from the Air Force with 20 years of service and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Davis was also an active member of the local Green Valley and Tucson bowling communities. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Betty L. Davis of Gulfport, MS whom he had met while stationed at Keesler AFB in 1954. Other surviving relatives include his mother, Mrs. Mabel Davis, of Green Valley; brother, Mr. Jefferson Davis (Cheryl) of Tucson; son, Alfred (Susan) and granddaughter, Rachelle, whom he adored so much, of Tucson; son, Thomas of New Orleans, LA; sister-in-law, T.J. Ragland of Green Valley along with the many, many friends throughout Green Valley and Tucson. Memorial Services will be held on March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Davis-Monthan AFB Chapel #1. DIXON, James Ivy, Sr., 91, died peacefully at St. Mary's Carondelet Hospital, on March 7, 1998. A long time resident of Maywood, IL and resident of Tucson since 1972. He is survived by one son, James I. Dixon Jr. of Tucson; four grandchildren, Patricia Ann Huff of Washington, DC, James III and SarahDixon both of Tucson, AZ and Jessica Dixon of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elena and daughter, Odis Mae. Mr. Dixon was a retired general supervisor of the U.S. Postal Service. He attended the University of Chicago and John Marshall Law School, Chicago, IL and served as a member of the Board of Directors for the State of Illinois Public Library system during his Illinois residency. ERNSKY, Nina, 76, of Tucson, died peacefully at her home, March 9, 1998. Armon Worth Irwin, ”A.W.”, 80, died March 9, 1998. Preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane and their son, James Patrick Irwin; father of John Michael Irwin of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Kate Shea and Deborah Ann Percell, both of CA, Tom Christopher Irwin of Tucson, Charles Andrew Irwin of Sierra Vista, AZ, Susan Marie Nicolay and Margaret Jane Barnacastle, both of Tucson; 24 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter also survive. Mr. Irwin graduated from Chadwick (Missouri) High School in 1935. He served in the Army Air Force as a radio operator from 1942 until honorably discharged in 1945. He attained the Rank of SSgt. He served in the Battles of Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea and Luzon and was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with BronzeService Star, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. JENNINGS, Ethel B., 65, of Catalina, AZ, formerly of Streator, IL, died March 8, 1998. Ethel was born September 17, 1932 in Streator, IL to Clyde and Bonnie Hert. She married Herschell Jennings December 17, 1951 in Ottawa, IL. Ethel retired from Owens Illinois Glass Plant in Tracy, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. RYAN, Jennie Parrish, was born October 11, 1919 in Orlando, Florida. She was the only daughter of eight children born toWilliam Byrd Parris and Emma Leonard Parrish. Mrs. Ryan, widowed in 1990, held a B.S. degree in business administration from Florida A&M University where she also served as secretary to the business manager. During her career she also served as secretary to the President, Albany State College, Albany, Georgia; secretary to the chairman of the Department of Physics, Howard University; administrative assistant and director of American University Center, and secretary to the American Ambassador to Cameroon, West Africa. Jennie moved to Tucson in 1974 when husband Henry (Hank) Ryan retired from his career in the Foreign Service. During her years in Tucson, she worked with children at several TUSD schools. She especially enjoyed visiting schools, during Black History month, with a display of artifacts and tales of her experience over fourteen years living in West Africa. Her civic activities included active membership in the Tucson Chapter of The Links, Inc., the Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc., The Tucson Urban League, and the NAACP. She succumbed on March 4, 1998, due to complications from an earlier surgery. To mourn her loss are daughter, Cathy Ryan Rickel of Tucson; and son, Ronald Ryan of El Paso, Texas; a brother, Basil Parrish of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Sean Mears, Brad Rickel, and Aaron Ryan; a host of other relatives and many, many friends. A Funeral Service will be held for Mrs. Ryan on Tuesday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. The Service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. BURNS, Mary, 79, died peacefully at St.Joseph Carondelet Hospice, Tucson. Mary was born on December 10, 1919 in Buckhaven, County Fife, Scotland. ”Aunt Mary”, as she was fondly known, moved to Canada in 1951 where she worked as a public health nurse in northern Ontario and Drumheller, Alberta. Due to health problems, it was suggested she moved to a hot, dry climate, which brought her to Arizona in the early 1960s. Mary nursed at Sells and San Xavier and was devoted to the Tohono O'odham people. They affectionately called her the ”nurse who speaks with funny tongue”. Mary's work also took her to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she nursed with the Indian people there. In the mid 1970s she returned to Arizona and attended University, graduating with a Master's degree in Nursing. She worked as a geriatric nurse until her retirement in 1988. Mary continued to work as a volunteer at Villa Maria Care Center. In 1996, as a result of health problems, Mary moved into an apartment at Villa Maria and later moved to the nursing home there. Mary will be remembered and missed for her spirit, caring, and storytelling. The love and prayers of her family in Scotland and Canada will go with her. Mary's family would like to express their gratitude for the friendship, prayers, and support of her friends in Tucson. Thank you to Father Wagner and Father Moore for their assistance.
