Minnie Mishkind, born May 2, 1908, wife of the late David Mishkind, passed away peacefully March 3, 1998 at the age of 89, in Tucson. She is survived by her son, Ira (Hedy) Mishkind, of Beverly Hills, CA; her two daughters, Linda (Dave) Schiesel of Tucson, AZ and Ginger (Tom) Mosier of Bisbee, AZ. She is survived by eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Minnie was born in New York City, NY. She graduated from Hunter College, and was a legal secretary for the District Attorney of the state of New York who ran for President in 1948. Minnie and her family moved to Tucson in 1943, where her husband established a CPA and Estate Planning Practice.
Minnie was a past president and active member of the Pioneer Women's Organization. Minnie and her husband, David were very active in the City of Hope. Minnie worked full time as a private secretary for a Beverly Hills developer until she was 80 years old.
Minnie was very devoted to her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook. She was a very humanitarian person. She will be greatly missed and always lovingly remembered. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Minnie, to the City of Hope. Services will be Thursday, March 5, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
ROSEN, Robert J., age 73, passed away February 22, 1998. He is a retired Firefighter and 21 year resident of Tucson and is survived by his wife, Wanda M. SMITH, Erlinda Cecilia Villa ”Smitty” 86, of Tucson, passed away February 21, 1998. Born April 10, 1912 in Mexico City, the daughter of Atalno Villa and Josefa Cisneros. Preceded in death by husband, Thomas Lawrence Smith and grandson, William Joseph Smith. Survivors include her sister, Felicia Villa Plessman of CA; sons, Ronald Kerr Smith of Santa Ana, CA and Robert Thomas Smith of Tucson; daughter, Sylvia Cecilia Smith of Tucson; her beloved grandchildren, Gordon Durham, Yvonne Mayberry, Tamra McKay, Randall Durham, Roxann Hazen, Felicia Smith, Robert John Smith, Bobbie Lynn Dougal and Angela Smith and 23 great-grandchildren. Erlinda moved to the Bisbee/Warren, AZ area with her family as a child. During the 1920's both her parents perished in a smallpox epidemic. Along with her two sisters, she was brought to Tucson and placed in the orphanage run by the Order of St. Joseph, then located on old Orphanage Road. Because Erlinda was such a giving person, she was sent to the St. Mary's School of Nursing. Graduating in 1932, she worked at the hospital for over 30 years as a registered nurse. Besides her nursing duties, Erlinda was fondly known as ”Smitty”, by her co-workers in labor/delivery and orthopedics and many others in the medical field. Donations may be made in her name to the School of Nursing at the University of Arizona or Pima Community College. Private services were held and burial followed at Holy Hope Cemetery. ”Grandma, you will be missed!”
STEELE, Harry Max Jr., 76, died March 2. Born May 16, 1921, in Parsons, KS, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret; daughter Carol Buss and her sons Brian and Paul; and son John. A graduate of California Institute of Technology and a Darned Good Engineer, he held a variety of technical, engineering, and management positions at Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory, Hughes Aircraft Co., American Electronics, Ai Research Manufacturing Co., Clary Dynamics Corp., and Rocket Power. A U.S. Navy veteran and holder of several patents, Mr. Steele founded American Gyro Co., Whirlajet, Inc., Tylan Corp., and Arizona Instrument Co. He was proudest of his pioneering work on the Hughes Flying Boat and at Cal Tech wind tunnel. Upon retiring from Hughes he took flying lessons and built his own airplane. Harry will be remembered by his legion of friends for his ever-present smile, springy gait, and keen wit.

Dorothy A. Stevens, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and role model to many, passed away on March 2, 1998.Dorothy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 22, 1918. She resided in Illinois, Indiana, Green Valley, and most recently the Spring House in Tucson.Dorothy was a retired payroll supervisor for the Anamax Mining Company and had been proudly affiliated with many Republican Woman's Associations. Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Jane A. Walker (Ron) and Dorothy A. Curzon (Bob); two sons, Richard W. Stevens (Sue) and Carlos T. Stevens (Jane); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends and extended family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. There will be a Visitation for Dorothy on Wednesday, March 4, 1998, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, and Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 5, at 9:00 a.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. STONE, Mari P., 77, of Tucson, passed away February 22, 1998. Mari was born in Suffield, CT on November 6, 1920 and moved to Tucson in 1956. She is survived by her daughter, Maridee Stone; grandchildren, Rocky and Stacey Parkerton; and two sisters, Sally Washburn of Connecticut and Lucile Archibald of Florida. THORESEN, Dale W., 77, of Tucson, passed away February 26, 1998. A resident of Tucson since 1972. TIEDEMANN, Jack R., 75, passed away peacefully on February 27, 1998 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Silver Creek, NY on August 28, 1922. The son of Christian H. and Alice Baker Tiedemann. The family moved to Evans Center, NY where the Tiedemann's operated a lumber business. Jack attended Hurst's Business School in Buffalo, NY before enlisting in the service during WWII. He served in the Army Airways Communications Squadron, Great Falls, Montana, Alaska and the Pentagon, Washington, DC. Back in Western, NY, he was active in business ventures before joining Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. as an agent and staff manger. During that period the family lived in Snyder, NY. They moved to Tucson in 1979. Jack is survived by his wife, Marjorie and three children., Christian and Jill Jenkins of Tucson and David of Syracuse, NY as well as six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at Glenwood Cemetery, Silver Creek, NY on Saturday, March 21, 1998 at 3:00 p.m.

FIELLO, Eva, May 19, 1925 to February 28, 1998. Queen of a family of great proportions. Angel of happiness and guardian of love. In her lifetime she has touched many souls, and raised many spirits. STAIR, Helen Callsen, 93, of Tucson, died Saturday, February 28, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.Bowen Stair; and a daughter, Catherine Snyder (Miles). She is survived by daughters, Peg Anderson (Karl) of Tucson and Holly Greer (Bill) of Cortland, NY; 12 grandchildren including the Rev. Margaret Babcock (Chuck) of Tucson; and 14 great grandchildren, including Jacob and Christopher Babcock of Tucson. Helen was born in Chicago in 1905 and graduated in 1925 from the University of Wisconsin where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She and her husband, who was with the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, lived in Chicago and Highland Park, Illinois, where she was an active volunteer in the community and at Trinity Episcopal Church. Helen and Bowen moved to Tucson in 1975 where they entertained many friends and family in their Foothills home. For the past 1 1/2 years, Helen has resided at Manor Care Health Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 3737 Old Sabino Canyon Road.
