DAVIDSON, Edwin Truman, born November 2, 1938 passed away to the Lord February 25, 1998. Ed was diagnosed with cancer on December 23, 1997 and fought it to the end. Ed was born in Lansing, Michigan to Edwin R. Davidson and Frances E. Cottrel, the third of four children. The family moved to Indiana where, in 1955, Ed enlisted in the Navy. He graduated basic training at 5'10” and 95 lbs. He served until he was wounded during a post Korean conflict and was honorably discharged for medical reasons. Ed moved back to Michigan where he began to work for General Motors Oldsmobile as a test driver. For excitement on the side Ed began racing sprints and open wheel stock cars during his test years in Michigan. One day while at work Ed was testing a General Motors car when the A-arm gave way and sent him through the wall at over 120-mph. He spent six months in a coma and was told he would never walk again, ending his 17 years with Oldsmobile. Ed walked out of the hospital three months after he awoke from his coma and moved to Tucson. In Tucson he began working for a young car dealer by the name of Jim Click detailing cars for the show floor. Ed enjoyed detailing and began his own business. In 1975 Ed changed occupations and began working for the Tucson Police Department as Fleet Technician. Through his 23 years with the City of Tucson he worked his way up to Head of Fleet Services. Just prior to his diagnosis Ed completed the police driving instructor school and was ready to begin teaching drivers training for the academy. Through Ed's 23 years at the police department he served his community on many levels. The family's residence was 13 miles west of Three Points. He started the first fire department in Three Points, with his Suburban being the first fire vehicle. Shortly after, he was able to solicit a fire truck and some help. Today, at the time of his death, he was the District Fire Chief for the fire department, which has several fire trucks, tankers, and rescue vehicles (his Suburban not being one of them). Ed was involved in the anti-drug programs at the local school and participated heavily in extracurricular activities with his youngest son, Kevin. In addition to helping the local community Ed also donated large amounts of time and equipment to the Civil Air Patrol here in Arizona to better accomplish their mission. Ed never said ”look what I have done” but instead would always ask ”what can I do next?” He will be missed by many and will be loved by all. Ed is survived by his wife, Janice Davidson; his sons, Kevin Davidson, Edwin J. Davidson, John Davidson; his sisters, Barbara Cotton, Betty Truax; his brother, Melvin Davidson; his father, Edwin R. Davidson; and his eight grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. with Full Honors from the Tucson Police Department at the South Lawn Cemetery and a Memorial Service will be held at Three Points Serenity Baptist Church, Thursday, March 5, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend both. The family asks that if flowers wish to be purchased that the money be donated instead to the American Cancer Society or Carondelet Hospice in the name of Edwin T. Davidson. ”I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7.
