Survived by her husband of 52 years, John; daughter, Judi (Art) Cotant; son, Tim (Pam) Petersen; grandchildren, Andy and Jessica Cotant, Melissa and Clint Petersen. A native of Arizona, attended schools in Tucson, Government Heights Elementary, Wakefield Jr. High and Tucson High School. Friends may call 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.Friday, February 20, 1998 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m.Saturday, February 21, 1998 at El Camino Baptist Church of which Reba was a charter member, 7777 E. Speedway. TIRRELL, James W., age 89, of Tucson, passed away February 17, 1998. James moved from Framingham, MA to Tucson in 1951. He was an Insurance salesman for American National Insurance and President of the Insurance Workers Union for many years. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church for 47 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne; daughter, Marge Muri of MA, Mae (Patrick) Cleary of Tucson, Karen Romanoski of Tucson; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren also survive him; and one sister, Edna Tirrell, of MA. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), on Friday, February 20, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. Rosary Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 300 S. WARREN, Samuel H. (Lt. Col. U.S. Army, Ret.), 79, died February 17, 1998. Husband of Janet Warren; father of David Warren and Samuel H. WESTHOLM, William Frank, 51, of Tucson, died February 14, 1998. Survived by two sons, William and David; wife, Suzanne all of Tucson; sisters, Barbara Head of Mansfield, WA and Jill McCormick of Orange, CA; brothers, Nils Westholm of Springfield, IL and Jon Westholm of Phoenix. His gentle spirit and marvelous humor will be missed. His family would like to thank all those who were so supportive and gave him such love and strength and the BMT staff at UMC for their wondrous care and compassion. There will be an informal Memorial gathering from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 1998 at the Double V Boy Scout Ranch near Kenny and Ajo. AGUILAR, Anthony, a 15-year-old Star, left this earth too early on February 15, 1998. Survived by mother, Petra Clark; father, Augustine (Sylvia) Aguilar Sr.; sisters, Nina, Delilah and Selena; brothers, Mario, Gilbert, Augustine and James; grandmothers, Petra Valencia and Cecilia Inigo; great-grandmother, Christine Clark; and many relatives and friends. Survived by two sons, David (Cheri) Sheldon and Michael (Carla) Sheldon; one daughter Terrie (Roger) Lewis; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Gina) Lewis, Rhonda Lewis, Misty Sheldon and Tiffany Sheldon; one great-grandchild, Samantha Lewis; and 2 sisters, Effie Hoffman and Mary Byers, both of Ohio. Preceded in death by Franklin D. Sheldon, husband; Franklin D. Sheldon, Jr., son; one brother and four sisters. BENNETT, Sharon M., 49, of Tucson, died on February 13, 1998. She was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on January 21, 1949, the daughter of Charles and Beatrice Bennett, both deceased. She is survived by her brother and his wife, Ivan C. and Brenda Bennett; her aunt and uncle, Joe and Ruth Campbell; and her dear friend, Rod Roeske, all of Tucson. Sharon was on the Board of Directors of the Child and Family Resources, Inc. since December 1994. She also was a Pima Arts Council Panelist since March, 1995 and a member of the Grants Committee since December 1995. She was President of the Board of Directors of the Catalina Chamber Orchestra in 1995 – 1996. Sharon also taught Managerial and Intermediate Accounting at Pima College last semester. A Memorial Service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Tucson, on Saturday, February 28, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. The family suggests donations to the University of Arizona Cancer Center in her memory.

COWEN, Merle L., 78, of Tucson, died February 15, 1998. He was a WWII Vet and served with the Army in the 154th Signal Corp, 14th Armored Division. Survivors include wife, Cora; son, Bill; and daughters, Joan Harrell and Susan Hileman; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside Service to be held at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Thursday, February 19, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Veterans Hospital. GALLEGOS, Richard, Jr., 37, of Tucson, died February 16, 1998. He is survived by his father and mother, Richard and Betty Gallegos; sisters, Carrie (Dennis) Martin and Teri (Fred) Vasquez; brother, Mark (Frances) Gallegos; and numerous nieces and nephews. LARA, Roy Soto, 25, of Tucson, passed away February 15, 1998. Survivors include grandparents, Ernesto and Guadalupe Soto, Jesus and Maria Jesus Lara; parents, Cipriano and Maria Lara; sisters, Cynthia Lara and Myrna Lara; brother, Nolberto Lara; brother-in-law, Desi Coronado; nieces, Sabrina, Stephanie and Casandra; and nephew, Miguel. MAYER, Herbert J., 77, of Tucson, AZ., died February 13, 1998. Survived by wife, Mildred; daughters, Heather (Steve) Collins, Tammy (Robert) Novak, Melody (Mike) Nowotarski, Penny (Rusty) Brewer; grandchildren, Casey, Aiden and Savanah Collins, Adrian, Destinee and Jael Novak; brother, Levi Mayer; and sisters, Irene Anderson, Clara Neil, Delores Gallo, Esther Meyer and Helen Alegre. He was a member of Eastside Assembly of God Church. He went to Henry Ford Trade School where he learned his profession of mechanic, he was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy and retired after 37 years from civil service at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. Services, 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 1998 at Eastside Assembly of God, 1930 S. Wilmot Rd., with Pastor Dave Stevens of Eastside Assembly of God. Joseph Raymond Patrick McPhelin, 92, died February 15, 1998. He resided for many years at #6 McPhelin Avenue, Haddonfield, NJ with his daughter and beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth. He is survived by his daughter, Jo Anne Elizabeth; and grandson, Christian Joseph Peters, of Tucson. He will be forever remembered and loved for his quick Irish wit, tenacity and charm. An informal Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, February 21, 1998 starting at 1:00 p.m. to celebrate his life. It is being held at 5601 W. Lazy Heart St. (Phone 883-6971) in Tucson Estates. Fred Elias Moreno dies at 91. Native Tucsonan and member of a pioneer family. Born October 9, 1906, died February 15, 1998. Pre-deceased by his wife of 59 years, Lupe Mills Moreno and brother, Gilbert E. Moreno of San Diego, CA; sister, Ermelinda Elias of Tucson; and brother Arthur E. Moreno of Tucson. Survived by four sons, Fred (Patricia), Richard (Yolanda) and Thomas (Roxanne) Moreno, all of Tucson and Gene (Jodie) Moreno, of Prescott, AZ; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Fred worked as a Linotype operator and reporter at the Spanish language newspaper, El Tucsonense, founded in 1915 by his parents, Francisco S. Moreno and Rosa Elias Moreno. After leaving the newspaper, he worked for 25 years with the Arizona Motor Vehicle Department in the Licensing and Enforcement Division, retiring in 1975. Not to be idle in his retirement, Moreno worked as a security guard until his 70th birthday at Tucson Greyhound Park and also as a home fire safety specialist with the Tucson Fire Department. One of the most important phases of his life, besides his family, was his love of baseball. He played and managed the Aztecas, a very competitive international semi-pro baseball team in Tucson. The team traveled extensively throughout the southwest and Mexico. Fred was the co-founder and President of the Benefit Sports Club and his wife, Lupe, was the originator of the wives' auxiliary. The club was created not only as a sports and social club but as a fund-raising organization to financially assist local families in need. Moreno also managed the club's baseball team. The club still exists today. Visitations will be held on Thursday, February 19, 1998 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Friday, February 20, 1998, 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral Church. NELSON, Bessie Almeda (Anderson), 86, of Bryceville, FL, died February 15, 1998 in Jacksonville, FL. Mother of Rosalie Danciu and Phyllis Hess, both of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three nieces; and two nephews also survive. DAGLIO, Luis J., 92, of Tucson, died February 15, 1998. He is survived by sons, Richard, George (Jacqueline), Phillip (Susan), Luis (Susan) and Peter; grandchildren, George, Brett, Jason, Sarah, Cameron, Alisa, Michael, Ann and Katherine; as well as four great-grandchildren. Mr. Daglio lived in Tucson for 58 years and was a long time employee of the City of Tucson where he was an inspector of weights and measures. Services will be private.
