POE, Carl, age 51, of Tucson, passed away February 5, 1998. Carl Edwin Poe was born to Erskins and Pazzellar Poe on August 23, 1946 in French Camp, Mississippi. JAYME, Hortencia ”Eddie”, 61, of Tucson, AZ, rejoined her Lord on February 7, 1998. Ethel Stokes Lusk, 94, of Tucson, passed away February 7, 1998. Born in New Lyme, Ohio, she came to Tucson in 1926. She was three times president of the Menlo Park PTA. During WWII she riveted aircraft for Consolidated and Grand Central. She retired from Hughes Aircraft after working 15 years in Tucson and California. She is survived by a son, Lawrence Lusk of La Habra, CA; a daughter, Marian Stevenson of Tucson; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. James R. Markwell, 54, of Tucson, passed away Saturday, February 7, 1998. Born in Louisville, KY June 28, 1943. Jim started his Air Force career in 1961 and concluded his military tour at the AZ Air National Guard in 1987. In August of 1997, Jim retired from the Reprographics Shop at Davis-Monthan AFB with 30 years total Federal/Civic Service. He enjoyed competition pistol shooting and was an active member of the Pima Pistol Club since 1978. Jim is survived by his wife and companion, Mary; his daughter, Michele Lopez; and grandson, Alexander Markwell of Tucson; AZ; his mother, Edith Markwell; his brother, Gerald Markwell; his sister, Donna Crouch; niece, Tracy Brown; and great niece, Tori; and his nephew, Daniel Crouch of Elizabethtown, KY. He is preceded in death by his father, James Markwell.
Jim was a loving husband and father who always put his family first. He was a trusted and beloved friend whom you could always count on. As his daughter, I will miss his love, guidance and support; he was my best friend. My mother and I want to express our heartfelt thanks to all of our family and friends who extended such love and support. MCGREGOR, Edith May Jenkins, died February 8, 1998. Born August 16, 1902 in Pontnewydd, Wales. She was taken to Warren, Ohio by her parents, Arthur Henry and Edith Anne Phelps Jenkins at the age of two. May graduated from Warren Harding High School and Warren Business College. She married Raymond Zahniser McGregor on May 21, 1922. They were married until his death in March of 1981. She is survived by two children, daughter, Adalyn McGregor (Terrance) Smith; and son, Charles (Shirley Miller) McGregor; four grandchildren, David (Carol) McGregor, Todd (Melanie) Smith, Randy (Cheryl) Smith and Jill (Anthony) Conti; 12 great-grandchildren, Allison (Bruce) Russell, David McGregor, Rory and Noelle Smith, Nickolas Armstrong, Tamara Conti, Chelye Smith, Anthony ”AJ” Conti, Riley, Keli, Willow and Quinlan Smith; one great-great-grandchild, Shayla (Russell) McGregor. MEISSNER, Dorothy (Dotti) P., born in July 1, 1903. A native of Buffalo, NY, peacefully passed away on February 7, 1998. She was born in Grand Island, NY and taught school for 41 years in the Buffalo area. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Meissner. They had been retired in Tucson for over 35 years and were active members of St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church. MORGAN, Stanley A., WT 3 USN, 74, died February 6, 1998 at the VA Hospital. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary. Graveside Service, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 1998 at Our Lady of the Desert. Stan and Mary lived in and were members of the Colonia Verde Homeowners Association for many years. He was a highly decorated veteran of WWII stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Enterprise, participating in the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo; the Battle of Midway and later assigned to the Picket Destroyer Prichett at the Battle of Okinawa. Marion Raymond Battin, born May 29, 1917 in Wallace, Kansas to Marion A. and Anna Young Battin. Died February 2, 1998, age 80. Survived by his wife of nine years, Mary Ruby; sons, Tom and Bill; predeceased by a wife, Laura; a daughter, Jackie; and a son, David. Also survived by three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-daughters; two step-sons; two sisters, Doris Dillie of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Bettye Medrich of Florida; a brother, Charles of San Diego, California; nieces; nephews; and countless friends. ‘Ray', as he was known locally, was a horseman for all of his life, having spent most of his early days in Fountain, Colorado, near Colorado Springs. He served his country during World War II in the Calvary branch of the U.S. Army, seeing action in the Burma area. After discharge from the service, he served as a wrangler at a number of prominent dude ranches in Colorado and worked sever years at a western theme amusement park in Canon City, Colorado. His most recent wrangler job was at a dude ranch southwest of Willcox, Arizona. He also worked as an extra in recent movies made in and around Tucson, including a brief appearance in the movie ‘Tombstone'. A Memorial Service will be held at BRING'S FUNERAL HOME, 6910 East Broadway on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:00 p.m.
