He is survived by his wife, Sue Monk; children, Gregory Monk, Melody Monk; step-children, Sandra Mathis, Sheila Cecena, Steve Marstall; sisters, Shirley, Dorothy, Delilah, Linda; brother, Robert; and seven grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 1998 at Santa Cruz Lutheran Church, 6809 S. Cardinal Ave. Burial will be in the family plot in Plover, Wisconsin. Dorothy is also survived by so many friends who gave so much and shared so much with her throughout her lifetime. ROSAS, Mercedes 'Mercy' Sanchez, 94, of Tucson, passed away January 31, 1998. Survived by nephews, David Montoya, Carlos and Daniel Montoya of CA and Joe C. Sanchez of Tucson. SCHWARZ, Erwin, age 93, formerly of New York and 23-year resident of Tucson, died in Gaithersburg, Maryland on February 1, 1998. He was married to the late Louise Lasker Schwarz for more than 40 years and leaves his wife of 23 years, Julia B. (Judy) Schwarz; three children, Arthur of Scarsdale, NY, Peggy Akin of Phoenix, and John of Tucson; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
After moving to Tucson in 1974, he taught at the Greenfields School and also served as Treasurer of the Arizona Friends of Music. A man of wide-ranging interests and talents, he devoted much of his life to learning and to teaching, he loved music, gardens, books and most of all, young people.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Harmonie Club, 4 East 60th Street, New York City on Sunday, February 8, at 2:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Ethical Culture Fieldston Schools, 33 Central Park West, New York, NY 10023.

SELLENS, C. Gale, born November 23, 1924, Russell, KS, died February 1, 1998at his winter home in Tucson after a courageous battle with cancer. Loving family includes: wife, Kay; daughters, Linda Bogacz, Diane Smith; sons, William (all of Colorado) and Mark (deceased); stepdaughters, Patricia Frye of TX and Cathrine Kimme of IL; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandson and a host of faithful friends. Throughout the years in Denver, Gale has been a land developer, restaurant owner, politician and had a long distinguished career as a banker. Friends are invited to share happy remembrances in a celebration of his life at St. Francis in the Foothills, 4625 E. River Rd., Friday, February 6 at 1:30 p.m., Rev. Patricia Noble (Science of Mind Center) will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to TMC Hospice, who so caringly assisted Gale and his loved ones (5301 E. Grant Rd. 85712).

WEISHEIT, Frederick James, 77, died February 4, 1998. He is survived by one son, James (Marlene) Weisheit; one grandchild, Kim (Jeff) Olson; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Trevor Olson; companion, Carole Lee and her children, Tyre (Rachelle) and family and Tara (Jack) Cox and family. WOON, Daisy, age 86, passed away on February 1, 1998 in Cerritos, California. She was born in Canton, China on August 15, 1912. Along with her late husband, David, Daisy established the first grocery store chain in Tucson. After the death of her husband, she was a long-time owner and operator of Farmer's Market & Liquors on Miracle Mile. She is survived by her loving children: daughters, Jenny Young of Hillsborough, CA, Jeanne Wong of Cerritos, CA; sons, Danny Woon of Milwaukee, WI, Gene Woon of Tucson, Dr. David Woon of Tucson; adoring grandchildren Deborah Gin, Michael Gin, Kevin Woon, Eric Woon, Ryan Woon, Kimberli Wong, Kristi Wong and Brandon Wong; devoted sisters, Suey Far Tom of Phoenix, Rose Woo of Seattle, Suey Yup Cuan of Canada, Alice Kwok of Tucson, Shui Chun Ong of San Francisco, Shui-Kok Lui of Los Angeles, Hanna Ho of Tucson; and brother, Joe Yee of Tucson. Visitation will be held Friday February 6, 1998 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY CHAPEL. Services will be Saturday, February 7, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 3015 N. Oracle. Norma Leon, 66 yrs old, of San Jose, CA. Born and raised in Tucson. Husband, Able Leon; and sons, Abel (Chris), Richard (Robin), David (Kathy); and daughters, Gloria (Michael) Joseph and Grace all of San Jose, CA; 10 grandchildren; sister, Elvia (Rinaldo) Romo of San Francisco and Julie (Gil) Garcia of Tucson. There will be a Memorial Mass on February 13, 1998 at 6:00 p.m. at Mother of Sorrows Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd.
Even though we were not prepared for you to leave us, God needed another Angel by his side. You left a big void in our hearts. We'll cherish your memory always, until we meet again. We love you, Sis.

Fritz Bernard, long-time Tucsonan and retired swimming pool contractor, died at TMC February 2, 1998 after a massive heart attack. His pioneer family came to Tucson in the 1870's. Fritz attended Tucson schools, played football at Tucson High School and the University of Arizona, and was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Bernard; five children; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson. His children are Charles E.Bernard of Chatsworth, CA, Mary C. Morales, Frederick C. Bernard, Jr., William A. Bernard and Madelyn Bernard of Tucson. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Philip's in the Hills, 4440 N. Campbell at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5. BONEWITZ, B. Ramsey, 75, of Tucson, died February 1, 1998. He is survived by daughters, Judy Beebe and Nancy Brundage; son, Christopher Bonewitz; brother, Richard Bonewitz of So. Bend, IND; and four grandchildren, Steven, Michael, Jason and Jennifer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances in 1974. Mr. Bonewitz was owner of Bonewitz Canvas and Awning for 35 years. He came to Tucson in 1954. A celebration of his life will be held. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

CHAVEZ, Gregory M., 33 years old, died February 1, 1998, Sunday in Tucson. Born on February 9, 1964 in Tucson, AZ. Survived by Christina (girlfriend); two sons, Emilto and Cesar; daughter, Celina; also survived by his mother, Lupe; sisters, Marianne (Eddie), Alice (David), Pat, Linda (Jerry), Dina (Richard), Irene (Manny); brothers, Ray, Gilbert (Mellie), Dan, John, Andy, Ronnie and Gabriel; many loving nieces, nephews and relatives. Preceded in death by his father, Ramon and brother, Mike. Mass will be said at 12:15 p.m. Friday, February 6, 1998 at Holy Family Church, 338 W.University. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Helen Alvarez Donaldson, age 61. A lifetime resident of Tucson. She retired from Liberty Elementary School after 26 years. She was known to many as 'Mrs. Donaldson'. Pre-deceased by her loving husband, Bobby J. Donaldson. Survived by her daughter, Mary Carmen Donaldson; son, Robert R. Donaldson; daughter, Judy Villarreal; son, Kenneth (Rosa) Donaldson; grandchildren, Sergio, Jessica, Elena, Gabriel, Michael, Bobby, Sarah, Brenda, and Vanessa; mother, Carmen Alvarez; brother, Roger (Margarita) Alvarez; sister, Gloria (Andrew) Alegria; brother, Gilbert (Yolanda) Alvarez; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 1998 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. FLORES, Eligio Rico, 89, of Tucson passed away February 3, 1998. Preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Flores. Survived by wife, Manuela Flores; daughters, Esther (Benito) Moreno of Nogales, AZ, Lupita Flores Shestko, Ramirez (Cesar Ramirez), Margarita Alvarez of La Puente, CA; son, Gabriel (Herlinda) Flores; sister, Guadalupe Calata of CA; brother, Cenobio Flores of CA; several nieces and nephews; 22 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Mr. Flores last worked for Ralph's Transfer and Storage since 1974 until his retirement in mid 1997. Also survived by 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Eiko Garrison, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully February 2, 1998. Preceded in death by her father, Shintaro and mother, Sakiko Shikata. Born in Tokyo, Japan, January 3, 1937. She married Hank Garrison and moved to the United States in 1965. She resided in Tucson for the last 13 years, where she retired from First Interstate Bank. She is survived by her husband of 33 years; and her three sons, John and wife Laureen from Colorado, Robert from Texas and Dan and wife Hope from Arizona; also her grandson, Logan; and her granddaughters, Jacklyn and Sidney; and her brothers, Nobuyuki, Akihiko, Tetsuya and Takashi; and sisters, Shizuko, all of Japan, and Mieko Smith of Wenatchee, Washington. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY & CEMETERY, 5801 E. Grant Road, Tucson, Arizona 85712. Services will immediately follow at 3:00 p. m.

GOWDY, Juanita, born July 12, 1921 in Mannford, OK, went to be with her Lord and Savior, February 1, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Hank Gowdy; daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Burton of Tucson; son, Ed (Barbara) Gowdy of Bakersfield, CA; sister, Joan (Herb) Nance of OK; brothers, Jim (Mary Lou) Finley of FL, Charles (Betty) Finley of CA; six grandchildren, Dana (Tom) Woodworth of NM, Darla (Jim) Faulk of Pinetop, Robin (Rick) Sheetz of CO, Sheila (Mike) Blevins of Tucson, David (Cindy) Burton of Marana, Justin (Debra) Gowdy of Bakersfield, CA; and six great-grandchildren. Juanita was baptized into the Church of God and was a longtime member of Order of Amaranth Tash Tonik #10 and the Order of the Eastern Star #54. Charles (Chuck) Robert Kline, 74, passed away January 31, 1998 from acute respiratory failure. Survived by beloved wife Marilyn, sons Richard (Barbara) Ireland and Roy (Sandra) Kline, and four grandchildren. His unassuming integrity and warmth enriched all who knew him as a teacher (TUSD) coach, outdoorsman, history buff, musician, friend, and family man. MACDONALD, Leslie E., 84, of Tucson, resident of Arizona for over 49 years, died at Catalina Care Center, February 1, 1998. Christopher Vega Pedroza, 31, of Tucson, died January 30, 1998. He is survived by his father, Roy E. Pedroza; brothers, Steven, John, Larry and Henry Pedroza; sisters, Frances Pedroza, Sherri Pedroza and Sandra Pedroza; grandparents, Jose and Frances Vega; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles also survive. Christopher cared about others before himself and he touched a lot of people. He will leave a lasting impression.
