DEARING, Wallace, Dudley was born in Columbia, Missouri on March 2, 1923 and went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 15, 1998. Mr. Dearing is survived by his wife, Eva of 55 years; daughter, Dixie (Zachary) Goldfield; son, James Dearing, Dale (Paula) Dearing; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Wendy Goldfield and Jacqueline Dearing. Mr.Dearing moved to Tucson at the age of eight with his father and mother. He attended Amphitheater High School and was a member of the first graduating class. Mr. Dearing attended the University of Arizona for one year and then joined the Tucson Fire Department in 1947. During his career as a firefighter, he served as Firefighter, Captain, Battalion Chief, Asst. Chief, Deputy Chief and Interim Chief until his retirement in 1976. Dudley was one of the founders of the Tucson Municipal Credit Union and also served on the Board of Directors, was Treasurer, Secretary/Treasurer and Chairman of the Board. Wallace Dearing spent his entire life in service to others and will be greatly missed by all who knew him and were touched by his life. SYLVESTER, Donald M., 86, of Tucson, died April 15, 1998. He is survived by two nieces, Anne Merchant Davis of Lunenburg, ME, Marilyn (Ronald G.)Merchant Speckmann of Jefferson, ME; sister-in-law, Maude Norris of Painted Post, NY. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose A. Sylvester on April 5, 1986 and a sister. Mr. Sylvester had been employed by the Quantum Chemical Corp. for over 40 years and had been a Navy veteran of WWII. In 1985 he was recognized for 50 year membership in Riverside Lodge #135, A.F. & A.M. by the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Maine. Mr. Sylvester had lived in Tucson since 1976. WALDRON, Ralph B. 'Windy Hill' died Thurs. March 5, 1998 in Tucson. He was born March 24, 1933 in Binghamton, NY to Ralph & Millie Waldron. Surviving Mr. Waldron are his wife of 30 yrs, Rita B. of Tucson; his mother, Millie Brewer of Silver City, NM; daughters, Rosemary Hall of South Bend, IN, Cristy Masoner of Kirtland, NM & Peni Strain of North Hurley, NM, Viki Goodyear of Arenas Valley, NM; one son, Steve Gabaree of Bayard, NM. Surviving brothers are Bill Waldron of South Bend, IN, Butch Waldron of Phoenix & Gordon Gabaree of Alpine, NY. Surviving sisters are Joyce Casper of Phoenix, Shirley French of Silver City. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; & many nieces & nephews. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Bayard, NM and AF & AM Member Lodge #10 & Order of the Eastern Star, Georgetown #4, York Rite of Las Cruces, NM, the Order of the Shrine of Ballut Abyad of Albuquerque. At his request there were no services.
BEAL, Lloyd E., 84, of Tucson, passed away on April 14, 1998. He is preceded in death by his brother, Joe. He is survived by wife of 54 years, Edith; son, Robert; daughter, Barbara, all of Tucson and sister, Evelyn Williams of Mansfield, OH. He was born on July 4th, 1914 in a log house in the village of Liberty, OH. He graduated from high school and worked for Westinghouse in Mansfield, OH. While there, he played semi-pro baseball on the company team. A promising career in sorts was cut short when, in June 1941, he was drafted into the army. He attended Officers Candidate School, received his commission as a Second Lieutenant and became Aide de Camp to General John S. Wood in July 1942. During his active service, while still in the states, he married his sweetheart, Edith in September 1943. Soon afterwards, he entered the European Theater of Operations. Now a Captain, he served in the Fourth Armored Division of the Third Army under General George Patton as a Reconnaissance and supply officer. He was involved in many campaigns including the Liberation of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp in April 1945. He received many service awards including the Bronze Star w/Palm, five Battle Stars, the French Fourragere and Croix De Guerre w/Palm and a Presidential Citation awarded to every member of the Fourth Armored Division. In 1981, he was honored to attend an international conference in Washington, D.C. hosted by the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. He was active as a Major in the Army Reserve. He was proud to be a life-time member of VFW Post 10008 in Tucson. In 1946, he and Edith moved to Tucson where he began his career in Real Estate, working for Walter Murphy. In 1949, he opened his own office, Beal Realty, on E. Grant Rd. In later years, a second office was opened on E. 22nd St., as well as Beal-Allen Trailer Sales on Benson Hwy. He served in a number of capacities, in both community and business sectors. He was a life-time member of the Elks. He was a past president of Multiple Listing Service of Tucson. He played and important role in bringing Stewart Title and Trust to the Tucson area where he served as Executive Secretary for many years. He loved baseball and was an avid reader. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He shall not be forgotten. A Memorial will be held at 7:00 p.m, Monday, April 20th at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. Memorials should be made to the University of Arizona Heart Research Center.
ESTES, James P. Sr., lovingly known as 'Sam', age 75, of Tucson, AZ, passed away Saturday, April 4, 1998. Born on November 22, 1922 in Twinton, Tenn. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty J. Estes; his children, Jim (Theresa), Donna (Denny), Connie (Les); 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue McWilliams of Longmont, CO; many nieces, nephews and many friends. He served in WWII as a Staff Sergeant with the 379th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division. His decoration included the European Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Campaign Stars, American Theater Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge. Mr. Estes was also an experienced brick layer. JUPIN, Mary Fritz, 86, of Maplewood, died on Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at the Boca Raton Community Hospital in Boca Raton, Florida following a short illness. Mrs. Jupin died just five days short of her 87th birthday. She was born in Maplewood, NY on April 20, 1911 and was a daughter of the late George and Anna Baschinska Fritz. She was a lifelong resident of Maplewood and was educated there in the Maplewood School. Mrs. Jupin was employed by Cluett, Peabody and Company in Troy, NY for a number of years before accepting employment with the New York State Education Department in Albany where she worked for over 20 years. She was a member of both the Watervliet and Colonie Senior Citizens and was a lifelong member of St. Basil's Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood. In her retirement years, Mrs. Jupin enjoyed being surrounded by her loving family and traveling. She had a true appreciation of gardening and for plants of all kinds.
She was the beloved and devoted wife, for 57 years, of the late Michael Jupin who died on December 7, 1984. She is survived by her three loving daughters, Alexandra Jupin of Sarasota, FL, Dorothy Acker ofLatham, NY, Mary Anne Jotie of North Kingstown, RI; her devoted sisters and brother, Agnes Fritz of Maplewood, Helen Sheldon of Maplewood, Tatiana Gawenus of North Norwich, NY and William Fritz of New York City. She was the cherished Baba of Rob, Michael, Jason, Tara and Jeremy; the cherished great-Baba of Matty. Also surviving are several dear nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 at St. Basil's Russian Orthodox Church, Archibald Street, Maplewood. Interment will follow in St. Basil's Cemetery in Maplewood. TAYLOR, Elsie Lathrop, widow of the late W.R.K. Taylor, died in Tucson on April 9, 1998. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elsie and Ralph Conly; her son, Kirk Taylor's widow, Anita Gildersleeve; her niece, Mrs. Neil Van Sloun (Sue); six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor moved to Tucson permanently from their home in New York in 1969. Mrs. Taylor joined the Tucson Medical Center Auxiliary after her husbands death in 1978 and has been an active volunteer ever since. Connie A. Armenta, 66, of Tucson, joined her Heavenly father on April 15, 1998. Survived by her husband of 44 years, Albert R. Armenta; her daughters, Thelma J. Lopez, Sandy Avila and son, Albert A. Armenta (Cathy); her 10 loving grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) and Regina Lopez, Danny, Albert Jr., Monique, Felicia and Vanessa Armenta, Melina, Ralph and Angel Ray Avila and three great-grandchildren, Ameres Lopez, Kylie Taylor and Danny Armenta Jr. Also survived by her mother, Guadalupe B. Alvarez; sisters, Lupe A. Lopez (Edward), Delfina Alvarez; brothers, Faustino (Gloria) and Dennis (Clara) Alvarez and numerous cousins, uncles, aunts and lifelong friends. Connie was a caring and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She was a certified nurses aide who worked at the old county hospital, Kino Hospital, Veterans Hospital and with Tucson Unified School District. In her spare time she also worked at St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Hospital. A woman with dignity and great courage she lived her life to the fullest in spite of her many illnesses and great pain. Visitation will be on Monday, April 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral with the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A memorial mass will be offered on Tuesday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m., St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. BROWN, Viola H., 94, passed away on March 24, 1998. She was born September 6, 1903 in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Millikin University, Decatur, IL in 1926 where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. After being in Chicago for 66 years Mrs. Brown and her husband Will retired to Tucson in 1969. She was an active and involved member of St. Michael and All Angels, the Tucson Delta Zeta Alumnae and the Tucson Musical Arts Club. She was preceded in death by Will, her husband of 66 years. She is survived by daughter, Ann Stevens of Evanston, IL; sons, Will K. Brown Jr. of Tucson and grandson, John C. Brown of Tucson. Clara G. Moreno, 85, of Tucson, died April 17, 1998. She is survived by sons, Jose G. (Anna) Lopez, Vidaur G. (Salome) Moreno and Marcos (Sylvia) Moreno; daughters, Cruz Grijalva, Aurelia (Micha) Castaneda, Josephine (Henry) L.
