WATKINS, Fred, age 80, of Tucson, passed away April 21, 1998. He was born on March 23, 1918 in Kansas City, MO. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sylvia; son, John Michael age 43 and Thomas Earl age 39. Also survived by five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. Fred was known for his great sense of humor and his charming wit. He will be missed by all. Memorial Services will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Sunday, April 26, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. with Dale Jacobson officiating. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

BARDON, Rev. Fr. John Brent, age 56, of St. Odilia Parish, Tucson, AZ, died April 25, 1998. He is survived by his mother, Alma Bardon, of Tucson, AZ. Friends may call 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 1998, with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte. A Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 1, 1998, at the Church, with burial to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by family owned, ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Wife of Paul W. of Tucson; mother of Carolyn of Tucson; grandmother of Norman Opperman of Colorado Springs, CO, and Brenda Winaker of Las Vegas, NV; two great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters. Funeral Services will be held at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, Tuesday, April 28, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Zabriskie officiating. Sophie I. Gray, born on June 25, 1917 in New Brunswick, Canada, she passed away peacefully on April 21, 1998 in Tucson. She joins her husband of 43 years, Howard Gray, who preceded her in death. They opened Gray's Garage at 2544 E. Speedway, Tucson in 1947 and operated it for many years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother ('Mamo'). She is survived by her son, Dennis H. Gray of Tucson and two grandchildren, Garrett K. Gray and Lindsay D. Gray of Tucson, who she always treasured. Sophie will be dearly missed by all. Private Services arranged by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY.

RAMIREZ, Cornelius S., 86. Passed away April 25, 1998 in Tucson. Survived by three daughters, Mary Lacy, Linda Ramirez, Patricia A. Rodriguez; two sons, Anthony Ramirez, and John Ramirez; two brothers; and three sisters. 18 Grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Ramirez retired from the U.S. Air Force as a staff Sargent. Mass for Mr. Ramirez will be Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 28, 1998, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Kelly Dale Simmons
Born March 26, 1956, Fort Benton, MT.
Died April 23, 1998, Marana, AZ, age 42.
Kelly and his wife, Holly and two children moved to AZ in 1986. During the time in AZ he has been employed as a chemical transportation specialist. Kelly is survived by his wife, Holly; and two sons, Donald and Michael Smith. He is also survived by his parents, Hugh and Nora Simmons; brothers Richard and Dennis; a sister, Jane, and nieces Brittney and Dillon; and a nephew, Blake. Kelly was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy; his grandparents, George and Lizzie French; and grandmother, Bertha Simmons. Kelly was a kind man. He loved his family and children. He gave generously of his time to 4-H activities. Kelly will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the family home in Marana.

Arthur William Barleycorn, 80, of Tucson, died April 24, 1998. Survived by wife, Virginia Barleycorn of Tucson; children, Patricia Kay Stevens (Carl Twentier) of Phoenix, Jack W. Barleycorn (Ann) of Apache Junction, Mark W. Barleycorn (Brenda) of Anaheim, CA, Colin W. Barleycorn (Judith) of Litchfield Park, AZ, Sheri L. Del Frate (Gino) of Homer, AK and Liam W. Barleycorn of Tucson; daughters-in-law, Mary Barleycorn and Celeste Barleycorn both of Tucson; brother, Charles Barleycorn (Dorothy) of Thornville, OH; numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Retired Tucson Police Dept.Captain, retiring in 1971 after 23 years of service. He was a member of the F.O.P, USAF WWII Veteran, member of the Arizona County Attorney and Sheriff's Association, served on the Rodeo Parade Committee for 25 years and was Supervisor of U of A athletic events for 20 years. Memorial Mass, 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Those Who Care, 3200 N. Los Altos, Tucson, AZ 85705 in memory of Arthur W. Barleycorn. PAMELA R. COPLEY-GRUBE - Beloved wife, daughter, sister and teacher passed away on April 27, 1998. She is survived by her husband, James Grube; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Copley and brother, Darius (Cindy) Copley. Born June 22, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Pam was an incredibly talented performer and teacher. Ranked in the top five among sopranos in the United States, she sang at Lincoln Center with cellist Mstislav Rostropovich in 1975. After graduating Cum Laude from North Texas State University in 1976, she moved to Tucson to work at Camp Tatiyee in the White Mountains teaching music and performing arts to handicapped children. That same year she began a remarkable 14-year teaching career at Utterback Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Many students and parents will fondly recall the wonderfully unique and exciting 'standing room only' shows performed by her musical theater and dance students. In 1991, Pam relocated to Tucson High where she taught Musical theater and Dance for two years, became Fine Arts Administrator in 1992 and 1993 and spent the past four years teaching Piano – a class which she loved teaching, until her failing health forced her to quit. She inspired all of her students to be creative performers, to 'never lose character, ' to be disciplined and focused and the best they could be. Her students were 'her kids' and teaching was her life until the very end. She will long be remembered by her many friends and associates for her wonderful sense of humor and tireless dedication to her profession. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (at Magee) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 1998. Services will be held at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway Blvd. at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 1998. Bishop Joseph Moats, Father David Moats, Father Jerry Bouch and Deacon Bruce LaPier of St. Luke's Charismatic Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. The family request donations be made to the AZ Cancer Center/UAF, 1515 N. Campbell Ave. Box 245013, Tucson, AZ 85724. 'You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.' Isaiah 55:12.

EBERLEIN, Arthur George, 84, of Tucson, AZ, died April 26, 1998. Mr. Eberlein was born in New Haven, CT on November 19, 1913. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jewell; and daughters, Sandra (Gene) Gerner, and Susan Lundquist. Additionally, he is survived by five grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Ballesteros, Erica (Neil) Saunders, Kyle Herman, Alexis Lundquist, Camren Gerner; and two great-grandchildren, Devin and Madisen Ballesteros. Mr. Eberlein was a veteran of W.W. II and served with the 754th Tank Battalion, 14th Corps in the Pacific theatre. He was a past commander and life time member of Orange Post 127, Orange, Connecticut American Legion, a member of VFW, Post 10188, Tucson and member of Hiram Lodge #1, AF and AM. Mr. Eberlein was a sales representative with wholesale building materials in the New England area before retiring to Tucson in 1976. He was active in both Orange, CT town government and in the Arizona Association of Manufactured Home Owners, state and district.
A celebration of life and graveside ceremony will be held at South Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m.

FORD, Henry A., born Delancy, New York, June 13, 1918, passed away April 25, 1998, Veterans Hospital, Tucson, AZ. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou; son, William (Paulette) Ford of Salt Lake City and John (Susan) Ford of Walton, N.Y.; a stepson, Lawrence (Cheryl) Thompson of Newport, OR; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters; two brothers and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Ford was a World War II Veteran, was an active member of the Tucson D.A.V. Chapter #28, member of Legion Post #68 and a VAVS Representative at the Tucson VA Medical Center. Mr. Ford had been active in Boy Scout Leadership for over 30 years, a member of the Southern Arizona Honor Guard & Ritual Team. Memorial Services to be held at convenience of family. Burial will be in Delancy, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Southern Arizona Honor Guard c/o D.A.V Chapter #28.

HORVATH, Ernest 'Ernie' 80, of Oro Valley, AZ, died April 26, 1998. He is survived by wife Helen; son, Jim Horvath and daughter, Debbie Zimmer; grandchildren, Brianna, Toby and Amber Rose Horvath and Brent and Ernie Zimmer survive him. His eldest son, Ernie 'Ian' Horvath preceded him in death. Ernie retired from Chrysler Corp. after 35 years and became Supervisor of Maintenance at Greenfield Country School. He was a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus and was President of the TKB Club. Friends may call at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (at Magee) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 1998. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Odilia Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 1998. KERR, Charlotte Anderson, 46, accountant, died April 24, 1998. She leaves husband, James, and daughter, Laura, her mother, Billie Anderson, father Chuck Anderson, sisters Leslie and Chris, brother Eric, grandmother Helen Juratovic, and many relatives and friends. A graduate of Palo Verde High School, with a B.S. and M.B.A. from University of Arizona. Services have been held. Contributions may be made to Eckankar, Arizona Cancer Center or Carondelet Hospice Center.

LEEDS, Leona J., 88, of Tucson, died April 26, 1998. Survived by son, Ronald (Diana) Leeds of Tucson; grandchildren, Michael (Jody) Leeds of Phoenix, Bonnie Leeds (Terry) Daly of Phoenix, Jeffrey (Linda) Bicknell of Kona, HI and David Bicknell of San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren, Stacy and Brian Leeds and Andrea and Cassandra Daly. Violeta Lopez, 72, of Tucson, passed away April 26, 1998. Survived by husband, Roy Lopez; daughters, Carmen Lopez and Terri Lopez; sons, Norberto Lopez (Cathy) and Rene Lopez; sister, Amelia Quiroz (Fred); brother, Chris Rossini; grandchildren, Mikey Lopez, Gina Lopez, Daniella Lopez, Tammy Ault, Tommy Ault, Matthew Acosta and Leanna Millyard; great-grandchildren, Ameres Lopez. We love you and will miss you so much. The strength that you had with you throughout your life will help us all at this time of our sorrow. ROMERO, Guadalupe Saenz, age 82, a 55 year resident of Tucson, passed away April 26, 1998. Born May 18, 1915 in La Colorada, Sonora, Mexico. Mrs. Romero is predeceased by her loving husband, Alfredo A. Romero. Survived by daughters, Gloria (Thomas) Lowe, Delia (Richard) Lowe, Elena (Pedro) Moran and Mary Ann (Chuck) Elliot; sons, Francisco (Connie) Romero, Alfred Romero and Ernie Romero; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Margarita (Jesus) Domingues; brother, Manuel 'Werta' Saenz. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 1998 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. 'Guadalupe will be dearly missed for her sense of humor, especially at family gatherings.'

BOWLBY, Aileen T., age 76, of Tucson, passed away April 27, 1998. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, George M. Survivors include three children, Carl (Mary) Bowlby of Tucson, Linda J. Davis of Tucson and Greg (Barb) Bowlby of Alta Loma, CA; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is scheduled to be buried in Watkins Glen, NY. A family memorial service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., Thursday, April 30, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. with Greg Bowlby officiating. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

DARLAND, Harold D., 90, died April 24, 1998. Brother of Richard Darland, Floyd Darland, Donna Sullivan and Thelma Weeks. He was manager of 'SS Kresge Department Stores', now K-Mart Stores, his career spanned 43 years. Memorial Service 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 4, 1998 at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway with Rev. Howard Higgins officiating.

EISENBERG, Rabbi Benjamin G., passed away April 27, 1998 at the age of 83. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jeanette; three loving daughters, Eleanor Gutterman, Vivian Weiss, and Sheila Freund; 13 beloved grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Thav; three nieces and nephews and many friends. He will always be remembered with love and admiration for all the lives he's touched, for all the children he's taught and the many congregations he has led. Services were held Tuesday, Congregation Chofetz Chayim, Rabbi Israel Becker, officiating. Interment was in the Congregation Young Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY. The family will receive visitors at the residence through Sunday.
