Past High Priest of Tucson Chapter #3 and Past Illustrious Master of Roskrege Council #6 of the Tucson York Rite Bodies. Past Wise Master of the Chapter of Rose Croix and Past Master of Kadosh of the Tucson Consistory of the Tucson Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a member of the Red Cross of Constantine, of the White Rose College #117 and the Royal Order of Scotland. Life member of Sabbar Shrine Temple and was twice President of the Marshal's Staff. Jose C. Castillo, born October 14, 1911 in El Plomo, Sonora, Mexico. Passed away May 4, 1998. Served his country during World War II in Okinawa, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He leaves behind beloved wife of 55 years, Anita. Survived by sister, Maria Verduzco; daughters, Cecilia (Manny) Murrieta, Norma (Walter) Yturralde, and Irene (Moses) Gonzales; sons, Frank (Rosie) Castillo, Hector (Lucy) Castillo, Lavern (Dinah) Castillo, and Joe (Happy) Castillo; also survive by 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary, (South Chapel), 240 S. Herminia Cordova, of Tucson, went home to be with our Lord May 4, 1998. Herminia, widow of Antonio Valenzuela Cordova was born July 25, 1907 at El Rancho de Buenos Aires. She married Antonio September 24, 1928 in San Augustine Cathedral. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1979. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage until Antonio's death on September 3, 1986. She will be dearly missed by her three children, Tony and his wife, Evangelina Cordova, Adriana Cordova, all of Tucson and Armando and his wife, Margaret Cordova, of San Gabriel, CA. Herminia was also a very special grandmother to Toni Cordova and her husband, Rick Woodruff, of Tucson, Teresa and her husband, Juan Guerrero, of San Diego, CA and Andrew Cordova, of Tucson; her great-grandsons, Reuben and Daniel Woodruff, were a joy in her life. She was loved by her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Cordova and cared for by Victoria Gonzalez, who lived with her for many years. As the oldest sister of eight, she took on a very special role in the lives of her brothers and sister, Amalia Bonillas, Eleazar 'Chapo' and Alicia Miranda, Epifanio and Ramona Miranda, all of Tucson, Heriberto Miranda, of Santa Monica, CA, and all of their families. Preceded in death by brothers, Adolfito, Ernesto, and Elizardo Miranda, their widows, Rita Miranda and Alice Kingman Miranda will miss her. She was a very dear aunt, and special mother to her husband's nephews, Joe and Lola Quihuis, of San Diego, CA, Nestor and Margarita Quihuis, Santee, CA and Mercedes and Ramon Sanchez, of Spring Valley, CA. Her sister-in-law, Sara Saenz, of Corcoran, Ca and many other cousins and friends will miss Herminia. She was the queen of our lives and remains so in our hearts today and always. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 1998 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. LOW, Sunny Lee, 66, passed away in Berkeley, CA April 27, 1998. A registrar at the University of CA-Berkeley for 30 years. He was a member of the Berkeley Chinese Community Church, the Order of the Golden Bear, founding member of APASA at UC-Berkeley, and a former Scout Master of Troop 1 in Berkeley. A native of Tucson, AZ and a resident of Richmond, CA for 35 years. Memorial services were held in Berkeley.
Michael E. Milligan, age 49, born in Burbank, CA on September 16, 1948. Died from C.M.L. Leukemia, May 3, 1998. His mother, Rowena D. Milligan, preceded him in death. He leaves his loving wife of 28 years, Mayme Milligan of Lake Havasu City, AZ; his father, Leonard E. Milligan of Bedford, MA; five children, Margaret Williams of Tucson, Harvey De La Rosa of Tucson, Kristen Houston of Manchester, New Hampshire, Michael Milligan, Jr., also of Manchester and Nicholas Milligan of Smithfield, Rhode Island; five grandsons, one granddaughter and six brothers. Michael will be remembered by all who knew him as a firm but loving and devoted husband and father. His children not only loved, but respected and looked up to him. His wisdom will live on in them and be a part of their lives and their children's lives forever. Michael worked in the communications industry as a splice service tech for 28 years and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mike enjoyed his time bowling, camping but most of all he loved coaching for the Derry New Hampshire Little League for almost 10 years. Funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on May 7, 1998 at Adair Funeral Home, Dodge Chapel. Burial will be in Lake Havasu City, Arizona on Friday. THOMPSON, Gerald E., 50, of Ottawa Lake, MI, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 2, 1998 at his residence. He grew up in Tucson, AZ. graduating from Tucson High School in 1965. Dr. Thompson attended the University of Arizona where he received a Bachelors Degree in 1969, a Masters Degree in History in 1972 and his doctorate in 1978. Prior to 1978 he served on the facilities of Pima Community College and the University of Arizona. In 1978 Dr. Thompson joined the History Department of the University of Toledo and remained until his death. He authored the following books, Edward E. Beal and The American West, and The Army and the Navajo. He was the editor of The Historian A Journal of History and Assistant Editor of Arizona and The West, these are quarterly journals. Dr. Thompson was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Alpha Theta, Society of California Pioneers, the Arizona Historical Association and many others. He also served in the Arizona Army National Guard from 1969 through 1975. Dr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Margaret; sisters, Eleanor Welton and Marilyn Mowbray; sister-in-law, Kathryn Kohler and her children, Michelle and Jan DeGon; nieces, Kathy Kaperman, Melinda Chitwood and Wendy Hendry and nephews, Frank Enfinger, Kenneth and Gilbert Mowbray. KLELL, Frank Alex, 86, of Tucson, AZ, died May 5, 1998. Son Frank Albert Klell and daughter, Rita Zappone; grandsons, Michael, Martyn and Mark Klell; granddaughter, Michele Zappone and great-grandson, Kevin Klell survive him. Frank worked on production of the Norton Bomb Site before volunteering for service in WWII. He served on the U.S.S. Preston as a chief-petty-officer in the engine room. The ship was involved in many naval operations including Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the occupation of Japan. Frank also served on the U.S.S. Bradford in the Korean War. After military service he worked for 22 years for B.F. Goodrich Tire Company as a Temperature Control Engineer. His love of fishing, sports, landscaping, generosity and wit will be dearly missed. Mr. Buck is also survived by his former wife, Sadie Buck of Tucson. A Korean Conflict and World War II Veteran, Mr. Buck had served as a combat Air Crewman aboard the USS Yorktown during World War II. Private Services will be held.
