OBERFELD, Lester H., age 82, died Sunday, May 10, 1998. He is survived by one sister, LaVerne Hawkins of Tucson; four nephews, Bruce Hawkins (Trucynda), Jerry Hawkins (Paula) and Brian Hawkins (Grace) all of Tucson and Gene Royce of Coronado Island, CA; two nieces, Julie Feerick (Mike) of Tucson and Janice Doolen of Mesa, AZ and by 11 great-nephews and nieces, Eric, Sarah, Amy, Chris, Ryan, Tiffanie, Bryent, Michael, Nicky, Bryan and Bradley. Mr. Oberfeld was a veteran of World War II and had served as a Captain in the Army. He attended Tucson elementary schools, Menlo Park School, Safford Jr. High School and Tucson High School. He had also attended Concordia College in Oakland, CA. Mr. Oberfeld served as the Training Officer for the US Post Office for 35 years. He worked very actively with Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as the church secretary for 30 years and also represented the church as he visited many shut-in or ill members. TIMMONS, Judith M., died April 23, 1998 in Jackson, Wyoming while visiting her older son's family. She was 71. A Memorial Service is planned for early June in Tucson. There was cremation. She was born December 18, 1926 in Geneva, Illinois. She was graduated from the University of Arizona in June 1948 and later received a M.Ed.degree from the University of Arizona in 1962. On November 22, 1948, she married Rodman Palmer in Cleveland, Ohio. The marriage ended in divorce. She later married John J. Timmons in September 1969. He preceded her in death in February 1985. She taught elementary school in the Flowing Wells School District for 22 years. She also raised and showed Labrador Retrievers; operating Labrador Lane Kennels in Tucson for over 28 years. She is survived by two sons, Stuart Palmer of Jackson, Wyoming and Gordon Palmer of Denver, Colorado; four granddaughters and one grandson. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
John D. Tsighis, beloved husband of Joyce Tsighis; devoted father of Christopher J. (Kathleen Gleason) Tsighis of Tucson, AZ, Elyce (Michael A.) Haber, of Tucson, AZ, and Jeanne (Robin A.) Edmond of Irvine, CA; cherished grandfather of Theodore C. Tsighis, Cassandra M. Tsighis, Katherine Z. Edmond and John R. Edmond. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece on February 25, 1918. He married and owned several businesses, but was most remembered for his salon in the Empire State Building. Raised his family in Glen Cove, Long Island, NY, retired to live in Tucson, AZ and recently in Irvine, CA. He died peacefully on May 10, 1998. Barbara R. Arnberg, 63, died May 12, 1998 after a long illness. She is loved and remembered by her family: husband, Howard J. 'Chip' Arnberg; daughter, Claire W. (Scott) Place of Tucson; son, Philip C. (Kirsten) Wheatley of Kansas City, MO; beloved grandchildren, Garrett and Graham Place and Emma Wheatley; brother, Richard N. (Jane) Berry of St. Joseph, MI; niece, Christine J. (James) Priebe; nephew, Scott R. (Angela) Berry; aunt, Connie (William) Poole. A 24 year resident of Tucson with an intimate knowledge of and love for the surrounding mountains and Sonoran desert, Barbara was a popular guide with the Southern Arizona Hiking Club before illness prevented her from pursuing her passion for hiking and her unique ability to commune with nature. Barbara was a dedicated and talented volunteer with The United Nations Center of Tucson for many years, capping a life-long commitment to UNICEF; a lifetime member and former leader of the Girl Scouts of America; and an enthusiastic member of the Audubon Society which provided her an outlet for her love of nature when hiking was no longer possible. Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. She loved life and helped us all to see the beauty and joy that could be found around us. We will all miss her for our own special reasons. May she continue to walk in beauty. A private memorial will be held in the Santa Catalina Mountains. BRANDT, Gladys F., born and raised in Bisbee and a lifelong Arizonan, passed away in Tucson on May 12, 1998 at the age of 90. A most kind, sweet and gentle lady, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; her sister, Nona Davis and brothers, George and Paul Beecher. Gladys was active in the Bisbee Community her entire life and was devoted to her surviving children, Janet (Dennis) Reidy, Donald (Jan) Brandt and grandchildren, Megan and Kristopher Brandt. She is also survived by Ralph Brandt's brother, Albin (Allison) Brandy; sisters, Edna (Robbie) Robertson, Bertha MacDougal; sister-in-law, Sally Brandt and numerous nieces and nephews. William G. Falls, age 73, of Tucson, passed away May12, 1998. William served in WWII as a Corpsman. He was a long time member of the Elks Lodge #385 and a lifetime member of VFW Post #4903. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Rilla Lee. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Michael) Marschinke, Shari Falls and Susan (Randy) Kalal all of Tucson. He was a loving grandfather to Jennifer, Brenton, Stacy, Nicholas, Kelly and Nicole, who also survive him. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Kearns and his loving friend, Nellie Belk. Beloved husband of Norma Dale, his loving wife and friend since June 6, 1960. A union that was blessed with loving friends and a life of travel, discovery and laughter. Glen received his Doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado at Greely. He received his BA and MA from the Western State College at Gunnison. He taught at the University of Arizona in the College of Education. Before that, he worked with retarded students at Lander, Wyoming and Grand Junction, Colorado as a teacher and director of education. He was a docent a the Tucson Museum of Art. He had a gift for telling stories and the out-reach program at TMA was a natural for him as he presented wonderful talks on Eakins, Russell, Dixon and Benton. He was preceded in death by his father, 'Ike' Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, Norma; his mother, Joyce Hamilton of Montrose, CO; brothers, Eddie and Kit and sisters, Nadine Phillips and Corliss Smith; numerous nieces and nephews and mother-in-law, Lucille O'Daniel. 'It was spring and the lilacs were in bloom' and Glen's strength, courage and love will always be ours. Memorial Service, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 1998 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco.
