HENSON, Zelma R., age 87, a Tucson resident since 1945, passed away May 12th, 1998. Born September 22, 1910 in Orr, Oklahoma. She is survived by her son, Paul E. Henson Sr.; daughters, Wilma Lee Blake and Linda Ruth Denman; six grandsons; four granddaughters, numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Sarah Moore and Melba Williams; brother, Clinton Fuller. PAGEL, John, 83, passed away May 12, 1998 at home in the care of his family. A World War II Navy Veteran, he came to Tucson from Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 1, 1945. He was an independent building contractor and founder of J. Pagel Realty. During retirement, his greatest joys were golfing, fishing and enjoying the beauty of Arizona's White Mountains. Survivors include: Vivian, his wife of 55 years; his son, Larry Pagel of Tucson; two daughters, Adrienne Pagel and Cheryl Pagel of Scottsdale and five grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his sons-in-law, Timothy Stumpp and Joseph Quiroz. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Genevieve Catherine Jushewicz Sitarzewski, 75, peacefully passed away on May 11, 1998 in Tucson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank who died in 1993. Mrs. Sitarzewski moved to Tucson in 1947 from Kenosha, Wisconsin. She leaves behind her five loving-children, Cathie, Robert and Malvina all presently residing in Washington State and sons, Joseph of Roosevelt, Arizona and Stan of Tucson; her brother, Stanley Jushewicz and family of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was instrumental in the formation of Tucson's Polish Club and the Organic Gardening Club of Tucson. She was an active member of St. Melany's Byzantine Catholic Church. A lifelong sufferer of arthritis, Genevieve was active in the promotion of organic and natural foods and homeopathic treatments. She could usually be seen about town in her purple pick-up truck. Mass will be offered, 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 15 at St. Melany's Byzantine Catholic Church, 1212 N. William G. Falls, age 73, of Tucson, passed away May12, 1998. William served in WWII as a Corpsman. He was a long time member of the Elks Lodge #385 and a lifetime member of VFW Post #4903. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Rilla Lee. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Michael) Marschinke, Shari Falls and Susan (Randy) Kalal all of Tucson. He was a loving grandfather to Jennifer, Brenton, Stacy, Nicholas, Kelly and Nicole, who also survive him. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Kearns and his loving friend, Nellie Belk. Lewis DeWitt Hall - Was born October 5, 1914 in St. Joseph, Missouri; he passed away peacefully at his home in Tucson on Tuesday, May 12, 1998, surrounded by his family. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Joseph, Missouri, where he sang in the Church Choir. When his family later moved to Santa Ana, California, he again sang in the Choir and served as a Sunday School Teacher at Church of the Messiah. He has been a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Tucson since 1937, where he served as an Usher and Sunday School Teacher. He also taught Sunday School for one year at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Tucson. He has belonged to the American Legion; the Order of Military Engineers, the A.I.A., Southern Arizona Chapter, Governor Fannin's Historic Sites Committee, Mayor Lew Davis' Historic Sites Commission, Chairman, Arizona Civil War Centennial Commission, Guevavi Management Committee, The Center for Spanish Colonial Architecture, The Tucson Urban Design Commission. His most recent endeavors in historic preservation led to his founding of Los Padrinos del Pueblo Viejo, of which he is President Emeritus, the Tucson Presidio Trust for Historic Preservation, of which was the Past President and Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson, of which he is a life member. He enjoyed over 65 years in the Tucson area. His stay began with finishing prep school at Southern Arizona School and studies at the University of Arizona. The Depression led to jobs such as picking grapefruit, herding cattle and helping to operate a gold mine. During World War II he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army. Before and after the war he studied under the celebrated Swiss architect Josias Joesler. This internship led to commissions for some of the more renowned homes in Tucson – spanning from the Bell residence to Donald Diamond's home, as well as the Sullivan home, now Tohono Chul Park's Tearoom and Las Campanas Restaurant, now Anthony's. MCMILLAN, Foster L., M.D., born July 17, 1903 on a farm near Tilden, IL. Orphaned at age 10, he received his early education at rural schools, graduating from Marissa, IL, Township High School in 1920 and from the University if Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1928. He interned at St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago for two years, then five years in a surgical fellowship. While at St. Luke's, he served two terms as Chairman of the Department of Surgery and three terms as President of the Staff. In addition to his private practice of surgery, Dr. McMillan became both a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of IL. College of Medicine and a Professor of Surgery at Rush Presbyterian – St. Luke's Medical Center (after Presbyterian and St. Luke's merged). During World War II, Dr. McMillan served for four years with distinction with the rank of Lt. Col. as Chief of Surgery and Commanding Officer of many regional hospitals in the Army Air Force medical Corps. He was a published author of numerous surgical articles and an active member of: the Illinois State Medical Society; Chicago Surgical Society; Central Surgical Society; Western Surgical Society; Societe Internationale de Chirurgie, Bruxelles; Illinois Surgical Society; American College of Surgeons and an honorary member of Pima County Medical Society. After he retired to Tucson, Arizona in 1971 he assisted Dr. George Comerci with the Continuing Education program at the University of Arizona Medical School. Predeceased by his brother, Robert H. McMillan, M.D. of Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Mrs. Jean Shepard of New York City; grandson, Grey Shepard of Boulder, Colorado and stepson, Paul Lamb and his wife of Orlando, Florida. He was a member of the Tucson Country Club and an honorary member of the Flossmore Country Club (IL.) At his request there will be no funeral services.

VESTLING, Carl Swensson, 85, of Tucson, died May 13, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christina M.; three daughters, Martha M. Vestling of Madison, WI, Christina L. Masson (George T. Masson Jr.) of Kensington, MD, Anne V. Galdos (Jaime J. Galdos) of Oceanside, CA; four grandchildren, Catherine A. Marvin (Stephen D. Marvin), Christina A. Galdos, Carl Copenhaver, Victoria L. Galdos. He received his BA degree from Carleton College in 1934 and his Ph.D. From Johns Hopkins University in 1938. He was a professor of Biochemistry at the University of Illinois for 25 years. He was head of the Biochemistry Department at the University of Iowa Medical School for 18 years. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Arizona. In 1954 he took a sabbatical leave to do research at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1959 he was a member of a team sent by the U.S. State Department to develop the science curriculum for the University of Kabul, Afghanistan. CARTER, William H., 78, died Thursday, May 14, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vivian; sons, William H. Jr. and Randy Carter; daughter, Joyce Carter; six grandchildren. Bill was born in Grandview, Texas in 1919 and served in WWII where he earned a Purple Heart during conflicts in North Africa. Bill retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad after a career of 31 years as a dispatcher. Bill was also an active Lay Member of the Sabino Road Baptist Church. There, with his musical voice, wit, humor and his love for all, touched many lives.His wonderful presence and sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew him. She received her BA in Art Center of Design, Pasadena, CA., was and artist, student teacher for 26 years and Evolutionary Spiritualist. In 1989, she received Pima College Juried Exhibition, Juror's Award and Exhibition Peoria Art Commission, Mayor's Purchase Award, she designed the logo for Tucson Special Olympics.
