ROSS, John S., 54, of Alamogordo, NM, died Saturday, May 30, 1998 at his home, following a hard-fought battle with cancer. Mr. Ross was born October 11, 1943 in Des Moines, IA, to Jack T. and Helen P. Ross. After graduation from high school he worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Tucson, AZ while attending the University of Arizona. In 1970 he graduated with a degree in range management and began working for the Lincoln National Forest in Alamogordo. He then went on to be a range conservationist, wildlife biologist, and district ranger in Arizona and Wyoming, and in Silver City and Taos, NM. In 1990 he transferred back to the Lincoln and served as chief range staff officer for the forest until retiring in 1995. One of Mr. Ross' favorite pastimes was to hunt, fish and camp with family and friends. He was an expert hunter and outdoor cook with Dutch ovens and over an open campfire. He enjoyed reading and all aspects of the history of the West. Mr. Ross was a longtime hunter education instructor; a past club president of the Lions Club International in Wyoming; a member of both the Society for Range Management and the Wildlife Society; and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of the family home; his mother, Helen Ross of Tucson; a brother, William Ross of Tucson; a sister, Sherry Riker of Danville, CA and four nieces and nephews, Heather Marino, Stephen Riker, Jennell Thomas and David Garcia. SPARKS, Mary B., 79, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on May 19th, 1998. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert W. Sparks. She is survived by her daughters, Susan J. (Hal) Flynt of Knoxville, Tenn., and Linda (Harry) Sheraw of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren, Chris (Michelle) and Meredyth Steitz; her brother, Hubert Brown of Leesburg, GA; sister, Margaret Geeslin of Balnbridge, GA and sister, Willie Cox of Cuthbert, GA. Dustin Kiel Ascher, 79, of Tucson and Pasadena, CA. went to be with the Lord May 23, 1998. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was a painting contractor. Survived by daughter, Susan Strayer of Tucson and son, Dustin Jr. of Ventura, CA; grandchildren, Sherry Provencher, Tom Strayer and Leah Wilson; great-granddaughters, Hailey Strayer and Amanda Provencher. His loving wife, Shirley preceded him to Heaven in 1970. Dustin will be fondly remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand and warm sense of humor. CHAMBERS, Freda Macadam, widely recognized and beloved Tucson artist, died at the age of 90 on June 2, 1998. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, Freda's artistic career included study in Philadelphia, West Virginia and Fontainebleau, France. One of her paintings was chosen for exhibition in the 1939 World's Fair American Art Exhibit.Freda's marriage to geologist A.E. Chambers brought new vistas for her in the West, in Idaho and Arizona. Her painting career ended in the 1980's with loss of her sight, but her enthusiasm never lessened and she inspired her two living children, Susan and Wid, to pursue careers in the arts and continue her ideas. Services are family only. No flowers please. A contribution to a favorite charity is preferred.

Rudolph Higuera, 95, died May 31, 1998. Born in Tucson, February 18, 1903, he worked for many years at Steinfeld's Hardware Store. KIBLER, Tedd J., died May 31, 1998. He was born December 8, 1930 in Arcadia, IN to parents Julius G. Kibler and Louella McCarty Kibler. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Joanne Kibler, Tucson and cousin, Robert Waltz, Salton Sea Beach, CA. Mr. Kibler graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He served in the army during the Korean War and was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, Arcadia, IN. Prior to coming to Tucson in 1988, Mr. Kibler was manager of a travel agency in Indianapolis. For the last nine years, he had been employed by WalMart. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Tucson Humane Society, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., Tucson 85716. ROBINSON, Joella E., 75, went peacefully to be with her lord on May 31, 1998. She was born in Bedford, IL on September 7, 1922. She was preceded om death by her loving parents Carl and Mary Adams; the love of her life, Robert Vint Robinson; and her very soul, her only grandson, John Robert Cullison. Also preceded by her sisters: Charity, Olive and Helen. She is survived by two daughters Debra Collins of Tucson and Barbara Baker of S.D. Also surviving are her beloved sisters Martha Silvers of Tucson, Mary Jones of IN, Thelma Hawkins of IN, and her loving brothers Earl and Tilford Adams both from In.
She spent the first half of her life as a devoted wife of Robert V. Robinson. The second half was dedicated to her career, family and friends. She retired from DMAFB with 37 years of Civil Service. She received numerous awards and citations while employed for the government. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all her co-workers throughout the years for the support and friendship they gave Joella.
At this time there will be no service in Tucson. There will be a memorial at a future date. SOLBERG, Elmo 'Ole' A., passed away Sunday, May 31, 1998 in Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his father, Ole Solberg; wife, Loraine Watson Solberg and son, Douglas Solberg. Ole leaves his wife Lou Solberg, Tucson, AZ; children, Karen Marsh, Willoughby, OH, Janet Chasteen, Overland Park, KS, Donald Solberg, Denver, CO; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brothers, Dr. Winton Solberg, Champagne, IL, Dr. Lincoln Solberg, Dearborn, MI and mother, Bertha G. Klepfer, Aberdeen, SD. Born July 23, 1920 in Aberdeen, SD, Ole attended Aberdeen Central H.S. and the University of SD, winning many honors and awards in both football and basketball. Following graduation in 1942, Ole entered the armed forces and in 1943, became a B-24 aircraft commander with the 8th Air Force. He flew 36 missions from the Seething airbase in England. A founding member of the Iowa Air National Guard, he saw active duty again during the Korean War. Ole retired with the rank of Major after 20 years of service to his country. Ole began his 37 year career with Mobil Oil in 1945 at Sioux City, IA. He held many sales positions including Sales Executive for Aviation Sales, Kansas City, MO. In 1982, Ole retired from Mobil and he and Lou moved to Tucson. His retirement activities centered around golf at Davis Monthan but included air force reunions and contact with members of his B-24 crew. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 5th, 10:30 a.m. at First Evangelical Free Church, 4700 N. Swan, Tucson, AZ. Blanche Bernice Tannler died June 1, 1998. 'BeBe' was preceded recently in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Jim Tannler. She is survived by sons, Jeff (Tucson) and Jon (Edmonds, Washington). Born October 17, 1932, BeBe grew up in Olympia, Washington. She attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, graduating with a diploma in piano in 1955. She met husband Jim while working at an auto dealership in Seattle. They married in 1957 and lived in Seattle, raising sons Jon and Jeff. The Tannlers later lived in Reno, NV and Buena Park, CA before moving to Tucson in 1980. BeBe worked for O'Reilly Chevrolet as a computer terminal operator, until she retired in 1994. A private memorial service will be held at a future date in Washington State.
