Daughter of Junious Fox and Anna Laura Gilliam, she was raised in Franklin, Virginia, by her Aunt Claire Everett Gilliam Simpson and later by aunt and uncle Helen and Edward Franklin Gilliam. The absence of her immediate family during her youth created a challenge for her later in life. She attended Franklin High School and was a member of the Methodist Church. June was active in sports and had six other best friends with whom she did everything. Some of her fondest memories included the four years at Duke becoming a registered nurse with a full B.S. degree. At Duke she met Dr. Harold Saul Schiro who had graduated cum laude from John Hopkins. She was a member of the Issac M. Wise Temple in Cincinnati. Her other interests were bridge, the arts and traveling. She had a small antique business and was an active collector. She loved entertaining and having large parties. Cooking was one of her fortes and welcomed all including a dog who once came in at Passover instead of 'Elizjah'. In the mid 1970's she moved to Tucson where she lived and became a friend of Bill Wilson's. June returned to Cincinnati to be near and care for her husband after a massive stroke. She moved back to Tucson in 1992 and resided at The Forum. As a pet lover she adored her cat Tippy and daughter's dog Pumpkin until the end. Most Sundays she enjoyed brunch at the Egg Connection, where the 'Southern Belle' filled up with cornbread and grits and a ride around Tucson with son Jack.
