DE LA GARZA, Guillermo (Bill), born June 18, 1918 in El Paso, TX, died June 20, 1998 in San Gabriel, CA. Preceded in death by wife, Amelia; son, Octavio; and brother, Jesus de la Garza. Survived by daughter, Amelia (Fernando) Sanchez of CA; son, William de la Garza of NV; grandson, John Sanchez and great-granddaughter, Amber of VA; sisters, Belen (Leslie) Carrillo, Luz (Bill) Neville of Tucson, Emilia Dunn of CA; brothers, Arnulfo and Trinidad (Gloria) de la Garza of of Tucson; sister-in-law, Evade la Garza of CA; and many nieces and nephews. He lived and worked in California until nine years ago when he came to Tucson. He had just recently returned to California. Graveside Services in Long Beach, CA. Arrangements by Luyben Funeral Home, Long Beach, CA.

EMMONS, Myrtle Quin 'MeMe' passed away on June 22, 1998 at TMC. Myrtle was born in NJ on Christmas Eve in 1913. She and her husband came to Tucson from Iowa in 1978. She is preceded in death by Elliot, her husband of 61 years; two sisters and one brother. Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Merle Emmons Johnson of NM; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew. She will be greatly missed by her family and caretakers. Donations may be made in her memory to Tucson Medical Center Hospice. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

FITZPATRICK, Porntip (Al), was born March 10, 1943 in Nakorn Nayoke, Thailand. She died June 22, 1998 in Tucson, AZ after a long, hard fight against colon cancer. She was a friend to everyone who knew her, always willing to lend a helping hand, until she was not physically capable. She is survived by many family members who will miss her very much, including her husband, Brian; two sisters, Chawee and Wilai; three brothers, Manit, Somsack and Sombat; two nieces, Nonglack and Nongnuch; 10 children, Warunee, Rawewan, Sunanta, Turpone, Ritthiron, Chollada, Waraphong, Nongnut, Carole and Jean-Paul; and 13 grandchildren. The main reason for her fight to survive was her strong desire to continue to take care of her husband, their handicapped son, Ritthiron and two of their grandchildren, Gatenalynn and Janejila. Visitation will be at the Dhammaratanaram Temple at 2819 N. Santa Ana Lane, Tucson, AZ 85749, from 8:00 a.m. to midnight on June 24, 1998 thru June 26, 1998. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Dhammaratanaram Temple or Arizona Hematology-Oncology, PC, at the Northwest Cancer Center at 1845 W. Orange Grove Rd., Tucson, AZ 85704. HARRISON, Nadine J., 73, of Tucson, died June 17, 1998. Wife of John T. Harrison of Tucson; mother of Brian T. Harrison of Lafayette, Indiana; two grandchildren; sister of Janet Steers of Woodland, CA; aunt of Edwin (Karen) Umphred of Casa Grande, AZ, Darcy Umphred-Burton of CA and Randy (Jazzy) Conti of Tucson. HUNTER, Johnny J. Sr., age 75 years of Tucson, passed June 18, 1998 in Tucson. Survived by wife of 33 years, Mary Jean Hunter, Tucson; children, Eddie Jo Maxey, Hughlon Malone, Jamie Swann, Johnnie Marie and Johnny J. Hunter Jr. all of Tucson; brother, Arthur Hunter and an aunt, Everlyn Hunter, Tucson. Mr. Hunter retired from Hughes Aircraft with over 33 years of service. He worked with U.S. Microwave until shortly before his passing. Funeral Service, Thursday, June 25, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation one hour prior to service at 10:00 a.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 850 N. 11th Ave., with Rev. SHEERING, Mildred Knight, 81, of Tucson, died June 20, 1998. Predeceased by son, Dale Sheering and brother, William Dale Knight. Survived by daughters, Lois Sheering and Patricia 'Patty' Shryock both of Tucson, and Mary Beth Wiltbank of Chandler, AZ; sons, Jack Sheering of Tucson and Keith Sheering of Tom's Brook, VA; brother, Harmon Knight of Fairchance, PA; sister, Edna Marker of Uniontown, PA; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. TOLLEFSEN, Albert B. Jr., of Tucson, died June 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Services will be held in Georgia at a later date. ABERNATHY, Helen A., died June 22, 1998. Survived by husband, Hadley; sister-in-laws, Carol Battistelli and Susan Abernathy; brother-in-law, Brooks Abernathy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia (Tang) Crowley, 54, died June 19, 1998. She leaves behind her husband Paul; daughter, Casey; and son, Brian; her parents, David and Esther Tang; sister, Cherry Simoes and husband, Manny; brother, David Tang and wife, Donna; and sister, Liz Tang; nephews, Shane, Wing, Darren and Andre and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Patti, granddaughter of Tucson pioneer Don Wah, was born in Tucson November 23, 1943. She graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul School and Salpointe Catholic High School. She attended the University of Arizona and graduated from the New York's Tobe-Coburn School of Fashion Design. After a successful career in New York, Patti returned to Tucson and focused her multiple skills and talents toward teaching children at Pio Decimo Center and later at Kino School, where she most recently worked her magic as a teacher, introducing children and parents to the joys of art, calligraphy and gourmet cooking. She always took time to expand a child's imagination and turn a sad face into a beaming one. Patti, in spite of severe arthritis, devoted her life to her family and much of her free time volunteering for programs in the community that she believed in. She served on the boards of UA Presents, UA Cultural Advisory Board, Angel Charity of Tucson, Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation; was a member of the Newman Center Sustaining Board, the Junior League of Tucson, the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Capital Campaign, Tucson Tomorrow Arts Committee, and the P.E.A.C.E. Club. For her outstanding humanitarian service she received the 1997 Salpointe Alumni Service Award. Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Church Thursday, June 25, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Kino School, 6125 N. 1st Ave; or Salpointe Educational Fund, 1545 E. Copper St., or the Arthritis Foundation of Southern Arizona, 6464 E. Leticia Arriaga Elias, 80. Leticia was born on March 29, 1918 in Washington Camp, Arizona. She joined her beloved husband, Robert Aguirre Elias on June 21, 1998. Leticia will be greatly missed by her daughter, Elda Elias and her sisters and brothers, Roberto Arriaga (Oliva), Josefina Kimmel (Ray), Mercedes Montoya (Edward), Elena Melton and Rudolfo Arriaga (Brunilda). Leticia loved and treasured each of her many family members and friends. Her unique creative talents, special strength, faith and sharing of her life will live on in her family and friends forever. Mass will be offered on Thursday, June 25, 1998, 7:00 p.m. at St's. Peter and Paul, 1946 E. Lee. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 1998 from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Gary Dean Herron, age 58, of Arivaca, passed away June 20, 1998, married 39 years to Joyce Ann (Barton) who will deeply miss her Buddy. His four children, Joe Hoffman (Constance), Brenda (Scott Stedman), Mike (Christy) and Patrick with fiancee, Angela, will keep himin their hearts forever. He was so proud of all his grandchildren. HOUCK, Terrence R., 56, went to be with the Lord June 20, 1998. Survived by wife, Sue; children, Craig (Kathy), Tim Houck, all of Tucson, Meilii (Michael) Halfmann of Sierra Vista; grandchildren, Sheyleen, Marisa and Mathias; brother, Lance Houck of MI; and numerous family members also survive. Memorial Victory Services were held June 22 at Pantano Christian Church. Mr. Houck was a graduate of the U of A, a member of DAV Rincon Chapter and a 32nd degree Mason. HOUGH, Bertram Arthur, age 90, died Sunday, June 21, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Alice J. Hough of Tucson; one daughter, Patricia Weise (David) of Greenbay, WI; five grandchildren, Kathleen Rein (Dean), Brenda Beard (Mike), David Weise Jr. (Barb), Steven Weise (Angela) and Theresa Weise. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a special family friend, Carol Owens of Tucson. Mr. Hough was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Hough who died in 1985. He was a member of the TOTS baseball organization. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. NEWMAN, E. Victoria 'Vickie' born October 6, 1910 and died June 22, 1998. Survived by two nieces, Peggy Booker and Ellen Browne and nephew, Brewster Allison. RONQUILLO, Sr., Fred, 76, of Tucson, passed away May 19, 1998. Mr. Ronquillo was born on January 18, 1922. Survived by children, Irma Gastelum, Esther Gillman, Fred, Jr. (Janice); grandsons, John, Andy, Jr. (Karen), and Tom Gastelum, Noah Gillman; great-grandson, Tyler Gastelum; sisters, Rita Craig, Mary (Howard) Birchfield, and Angie Drow; brothers, Cristobal, John (Cora), and Daniel (Dora); many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Preceded in death by wife, Manuela; parents, Ramon and Candida; sister, Herlinda Sereno; granddaughter, Rachel Gillman. Mr. Ronquillo was a cement mason for 35 years. He was also a WWII Navy veteran. ROSS, LaVerne A., 74 of Mesa, formerly of Tucson, passed away June 22nd, 1998 at Desert Samaritan Medical Center in Mesa following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Promenschenkel of Medsa; her brother, Richard Weber of San Diego; her sister, Clara Wiedmiller of Las Vegas; granddaughters, Denise Underhill and Debra Kiper of Marseilles, IL; grandson, James David Jr. of Seneca, IL; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, also the Daughters of the Nile. Services will be held at a later date in Illinois. ROTHMAN, Leah, died in Hallandale, FL on June 21, 1998. Predeceased by husband, Ira Kalins; her parents, Frannie and Theodore Rothman of Pittsburgh, PA and brothers, David, Harold and Samuel. Survived by sisters-in-law, Florence Rothman of FL, Martha Rothman of Tucson; nieces, Janet Markel of Pittsburgh, PA, Frances Stoler of Tucson, Wendy Daniel of Boulder, CO, Betsy Bourgein of Orinda, CA; nephews, D. Richard Rothman of Ruxton, MD, T. Todd Rothman of Tucson and 12 great nieces and nephews. Graveside Services, Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. June 24th Temple Emanu-El Section Evergreen Cemetery, N. Oracle &W. Gladys Mae Sloan - On June 20, 1998 at 6:10 a.m., a beautiful and sunny morning, my best friend and mother, Gladys Mae Sloan peacefully passed into everlasting life at home in the arms of her daughter and surrounded by family and friends. Born October 30, 1921 in Limestone County, Texas, Mrs. Sloan spent the majority of her life in Southern California until moving to Tucson in 1992, with her daughter. Mrs. Sloan is survived by a daughter, Lee Sloan of Tucson; a son, Larry Jewett of Little Rock, AR; a sister, Elizabeth and husband Edwin Weldon of La Center, KY; a brother, Robert and wife Catherine Heermans of Royse City, TX and a brother, Harold and wife, Helga McGinnis of Whittier, CA. There are also numerous aunts, cousins and close family friends who will share in the loss of this wonderful lady. Words can never truly express the heartfelt appreciation and love felt by her daughter for the love and endless support of her physician, and the staff of Carondelet Home Hospice Program-St. Mary's. Lastly, the family would like to share a poem Mrs. Sloan kept at her bedside:
