BRANDOW, Marion A., 79, died June 3, 1998. She was born in New York City and lived in Tucson for 17 years before moving back to New York in 1996. She was a Communicant of St. John's in Tucson and St. Joseph's in Scotia, NY. Preceded in death by husband, Howard, in 1988; and son, Howard John, in 1990. Survived by three daughters, Joan V. (Lloyd) Race of Ballston Spa, NY; Eileen MacIntosh of Scotia, NY; and Robin A. Forman of Wichita, KS; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Brandow of Arlington, TX; brother, William J. O'Brien of Newport News, VA; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 29, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Tucson. Interment South Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation; or St. John's Roof Fund, 602 W. Ajo Way, 85713.

LITTAU, C.M. Sally, died peacefully at home June 27, 1998. Survived by her husband, Fred; children, Clifford W. and Sally R. Littau; brothers, Harlan and Don Hight; sisters, Irene Schramm, Lorraine Fraser and Dorothy Hight and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister. She was born to Charles and Edith Eveleth Hight in White River, South Dakota on October 14, 1929. She married Fred on March 7, 1948. While in South Dakota they lived in White River, Webster and Winner. They lived in Winslow, Arizona before moving to San Manuel in 1960. She was a 27 year employee at Magma Copper Company, an avid member of the hiking club, the community chorus, a volunteer worker in the Hospice program in the community, and often seen riding her bicycle, golfing or walking in the desert. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2nd, EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile with Pastor Alan Eckert of Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tucson officiating. Friends may call 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1st at the Trinity Lutheran Church in San Manuel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the TMC Hospice Care or donor's choice.

MOTT, William R., 86, died June 29, 1998. Born November 10, 1911 in East Louis, Illinois. William was preceded in death by his wife, Florence. He is survived by his sons, W. Stephen (Jo) of CA and Jeffrey (Judy) of Wisconsin and Bill (Sharon) of Colorado; grandchildren, Vici Phelps, Mike and Mark Mott, Stefanie and Chris Mott, Rachel Mott and seven great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by special friends, Ruby Owens, Ken Mylrea, John Staley, Ron Ehrhardt and Wendy Kerr. Bill worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, Motor Supply Company and retired from Pima Mine in 1976. He was also a long time member of Elks Lodge #585 and the Eagles. Bill will long be remembered for his good nature, sense of humor and warm heart. Memorial Services, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 1998 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Avenue. PATTERSON, Ruth Warner, 95, of Tucson, died June 26, 1998. She is survived by her husband, George Sabin Gibbs Patterson; niece, Claire Livesey; nephew, Robert Liley. There will be no services. PIONTEK, Jerry D., age 55, of Tucson, died Saturday, June 27, 1998. Survivors include wife, Patty; children, Kelli, Grant and Jill; son-in-law, Mark Carpenter; grandchildren, Danielle and Samantha; mother, Gladys Piontek. Preceded in death by his father and sister. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd.(at Speedway).

William 'Bill' R. Porter, 53, AZ DPS police officer of 26 years, husband, father, brother, son, avid hunter and fisherman, died peacefully at his home June 27, 1998 after a long, courageous battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by Jane, his wife of 28 years; son, Matthew; and daughter, Julie. He is also survived by his mother, Julia; three brothers, Keith and Ken of Tucson; and twin brother, Tom (Jan) of Elko, NV; and many other family members and close friends. He was born in Geneva, IL May 31, 1945. His family moved to Tucson in 1952 and Bill attended Tucson Public Schools, graduating from Rincon High in 1963. He attended NAU and the U of A prior to enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps training in demolitions. His career with the AZ DPS started with the AZ Highway Patrol in March 1972. Throughout his career he worked in narcotics, liquor control, intelligence and training at ALETA. He also served on the SWAT team and Bomb Squad for over 20 years and was the C.I. range master. He received the AZ DPS Police Officer of the Year in 1990 honoring his devotion of his own time and energy to church, community, and youth projects, endorsing the best qualities of Law Enforcement and citizenship. Bill was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as an assistant scoutmaster helping many boys, including his son, Matt, earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to thank his doctor for his endless efforts to combat Bill's disease and willingness to try new treatments. They also wish to thank the many special friends, colleagues, and medical personnel for their support and friendship during Bill's last year. Visitation will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (at Magee), Tuesday, June 30, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial Services in celebration of Bill's life will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 750 W. SANCHEZ, Frank A., 77, of Tucson, passed away June 28, 1998. Survived by daughters, Pat (Frank) Salcido, Priscilla (Manuel) Valencia and Terry (Arturo) Calvillo; sons, Johnny (Aida) and Robert L. (Lisa) Sanchez; sisters, Dolores Sanchez and Cleo Coto; grandchildren, Johnny Jr., Carlos, Ricardo, Robert Jr., Mario and Clarissa Sanchez, Steve and Michael Salcido, Yvonne Sharon and Manny Valencia, Diane Pesqueria, Santos, Artie, Victor and Frankie Calvillo. Also survived by 21 great-grandchildren. Mr. Sanchez was a recipient of two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Thursday, July 2, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. SCOTT, Donald Gene, 71, of Tucson, died June 26, 1998. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janette; loving children, Terri Calderon, Donald E. Scott and Sandra Lara as well as five grandchildren. SERSAIN, Juanita Florence, of Boise, Idaho died May 29, 1998. Upon her retirement as Director of the National Foundation for Asthma she moved to Boise with her husband who was a native of the area. She was the Secretary for Idaho Working Partners, an organization devoted to raising funds for the Hope House of Nampa, the Salvation Army, and other projects. She had recently been appointed to Governor Phil Batt's commission on Aging. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Tommy Lee and Frederick Charles Berrong. She is survived by her husband, Gale F. Sersain; her daughter, Winnie Morton both of Boise; her brother, John Miller of Lake Havasu City, AZ; her sisters, Irene Biegler of Tucson, Rebecca Adams of Fresno, CA, Ruth Newman of Portland, OR, Faith Wise of Casper, WY and Mary Flahery of San Leandro, CA. WERNER, Jay, 101, of Tucson, passed away June 25, 1998. She is survived by sons, Frank (Jonnie) Heller, grandsons Scott and Page; Harold (Jermaine) Heller, granddaughter Lori and grandson Christopher of Denver. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday June 30, 1998 at Grace Chapel, 6180 E. Pima St., Tucson. WILCOX, Dorothea E. Relyea, passed away on June 28, 1998. She was born on March 24, 1911 in Schenectady, NY. Preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Roger M. Wilcox. Survived by her son, Roger C. Wilcox and daughter-in-law, Janet, who she loved as her own, in Tucson, AZ; 2 grandchildren, Scott G. Wilcox (Jeanette) in Tucson, AZ and Amy A. Wilcox in Oakland, CA; two great grandchildren, Daniel Charles Wilcox and Rebecca Paige Wilcox in Tucson, AZ; sisters: Emma Flavin in Laurence Harbor, NJ and Ruth Wilcox in Mesa, AZ; brothers: George Ottendorf of Daytona Beach, FL; Douglas Ottendorf in Fairfield, OH; Clyde Ottendorf on Schenectady, NY; nieces, nephews and many loving friends. Dorothea resided in Tucson for 26 years after moving here from Dayton, OH. An active member of Christ Church United Methodist, she sang in the chancel choir for 19 years. A member of the United Methodist Women for 43 years in both Ohio and Arizona, she held offices at the local, district and conference levels. Member of Aero Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM on July 2, 1998 at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft Rd. in Tucson. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Christ Church Methodist Memorial Fund. She lived her life as a Christian and has now graduated to the next.

ALCANTAR, Daniel Rene, infant, passed away June 29, 1998. Preceded in death by grandmother, Rachel Alcantar. PAYNE, Billy Joe, 66, of Tucson, died June 28, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Faye Payne of Tucson; sons, Michael Joe (Becky) Payne, Gregory Dean (Debbi) Payne; daughter, Patricia Ann (David) Payne-Kautenburger all of Tucson; grandchildren, Stephanie Ann (Chris) Duchac, Bridgett Alana Bybee, Cynthia Joleen Alban, Jason Dean Payne, Jeremey Robert Payne, Stacy Sue Payne, Christopher Michael Payne and Sean Michael Payne; great-grandchildren, Emma Josephine Duchac and Charles Joe Payne; brother, Theo Granville (Rachel Ann) Payne of Excelsior Springs, MO; brother-in-law, J W Ball of Bolivar, MO, Larry Lilly; loving nephew/brother and fishing buddy and aunts, uncle and many nieces and nephews; special friends, Allison, Carol, Tom, David and Sue Barrett. Predeceased by his sister, Betty Mae Ball this past Good Friday and great-grandson, Joseph Alberto Ledezma on June 14, 1996. Mr. Payne also leaves his pet, Lady. SANCHEZ, Jay Lee, born September 13, 1948 in Tucson, AZ and passed away June 27, 1998 in Throckmorton, TX. Jay is survived by his wife, Valeta Timms; daughter, Dawn Marie Rigg of Lewisville, TX; son, Phillip Lee Sanchez of Las Vegas, NV; parents, Gilbert S. Sanchez of Tucson and Doris Moak of Flower Mound, TX; grandmother, Julia Sanchez of Pico Rivero, CA and one grandson. Jay worked as a business consultant in the marketing and manufacturing of boats and spas. Cryptside Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 1998 at South Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 5401 S. Park Avenue. Melvin D. Stamm, born November 3, 1948; Pamela Stamm, born December 30, 1951 and their dog, Baron of Tucson, died in an accident in South Carolina on June 21, 1998. Surviving are their five children, Barbara Beach, Susan Drake, Loretta Stamm, Christine Stamm and Donald Drake. Services will be held at Thompson's Funeral Home in Roaring Springs, Pennsylvania. George Bernardo Antunez, 69, died July 1, 1998. Father of George Luis (Kathy) Antunez of Martinez, CA., Rosa Linda (Francisco) Burgos of Concord, CA, Leticia (Ruben) Contreras of Tucson, AZ, Maribel Antunez of Chula Vista, CA, and Brenda Antunez of Tucson, AZ; grandfather of Christiana, Aaron, Alyssa, Andrew, Jasmine, Roxanne, Jordan, Sonia, Christopher and Antonio; brother of Elisa (Tom) Barreras of Hemet, CA. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 1998 at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Further services and interment in Rayon, Sonora, Mexico. BACON, Charlotte S., loving wife, mother and a 'fighter' for all of her 87 years, died peacefully at home on June 30, 1998. A native of Chicago, Char married Harold J. Bacon in a simple Depression era ceremony. In the early years of their almost 63 years of marriage they lived in McHenry County, Illinois. Crystal Lake was their home from 1938 until moving to Tucson in 1972.Together they had five children. In addition to her husband Harold, she is survived by daughters, Catherine Ellen (Richard) Croak of Concord, New Hampshire, Mary Lorene (Francis) Barrett of Tucson, Judith Jean (John) Harding of Woodstock, Illinois and Patrice 'Trish' Charold (David) Hatfield of Tucson; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her only son, Harold James 'Skip' Bacon Jr. preceded her in death two and a half years ago. In both Tucson and Illinois she was a loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family. Through her unyielding faith, she defied some of her life's most difficult obstacles. A victim of polio in 1942, she was later told by doctors she would need open-heart surgery to survive beyond three years. She didn't do it - and that was 35 years ago. A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 3 with a Funeral Mass to follow in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5150 N. Valley View Road. Burial will be in Illinois. The family requests contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice in Charlotte's name. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd.

Warren S. Blumenfeld, 64, a former Professor of Management and Psychology at Georgia State University, and renowned author and humorist, died July 1, 1998 in Tucson of cancer. Dr. Blumenfeld earned his BA in Psychology at Indiana University and MS, PhD, Industrial Psychology, Purdue University. Dr. Blumenfeld conducted applied research in the public and private sectors as both an internal and external consultant.Prior to coming to Georgia State University in 1969 he conducted applied research in a wide range of settings, having been Manager of Advertising Research (Coca-Cola USA), Applied Research Consultant (self-employed), Research Psychologist (National Merit Scholarship Corporation), Project Director (Personnel Measurement Research Department U.S. Naval Personnel Research Activity, San Diego), Purdue Opinion Panel Associate Editor (Purdue University), Project Director and Research Coordinator (Test Department, Science Research Associates) and Personnel Psychologist (Armed Forces Examining Station, U.S. Army). His research has been presented to professional associations nationally and internationally as well as countless articles published in numerous journals and magazines. In 1986, Dr. Blumenfeld's full-time hobby as a connoisseur of oxymorons brought him national recognition when he was featured in People Magazine, as 'The Dean of the oxymoron.' His two best selling books, JUMBO SHRIMP & OTHER ALMOST PERFECT OXYMORONS and PRETTY UGLY: MORE OXYMORONS & OTHER ILLOGICAL EXPRESSIONS THAT MAKE ABSOLUTE SENSE followed in 1989, and Dr. Blumenfeld became a frequent radio/TV talk show guest as well as speaker, demonstrating scholar humorist is not necessarily an oxymoron. His third book, MY GRANDMOTHER DIED AGAIN & OTHER ALMOST BELIEVABLE EXCUSES followed in 1991. Among his many honors, Dr. Blumenfeld was selected by College of Business Administration students, faculty, and Administration as Alumni Distinguished Professor. He was also twice selected by the Doctoral fellows as the Hammond Award Recipient. Dr. Blumenfeld is survived by his wife, Esther; his son, Joshua Blumenfeld and many loving friends. FARNEY, Dorothy E., 72, passed away Monday, June 29, 1998 at St. Joseph's Hospice, following her husband, Richard, who passed away last November. Dorothy was born in Zion, IL in 1925 and was a resident of Arizona for the last 45 years. She was a production worker at Hughes Aircraft Co. during the 60's and 70's and she loved Cardinals and hummingbirds. She is survived by sisters, Norma Godin of IL and Donna Berg of CO; brothers, Ronald DePew of IL and Bill DePew of MI; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 3 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Road. Interment in East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service time at the mortuary.
