Felipe Munoz Rivera, Jr., 65, of Waiehu, Maui, Hawaii, died July 31, 1998 at his residence. Memorial Services were held in St. Anthony Church in Maui. Mr. Rivera was born January 23, 1933 in Tucson, AZ., he attended the University of Arizona. He entered the United States navy in 1952 and served aboard the USS, then – LST 1101 Saline County on tour of combat duty in Korean waters. He was a Spanish Teacher at Maui Community College. He was a professional musician of Jazz for 51 years. He was founder and president of the Maui Jazz Society and a member of the American Federation of Musician Union 386 in Reno, NV. He was past president of the Lions Club of Lake Tahoe, NV. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Rivera of HI; three daughters, Debra (Bruce) Cushing of Halton City, TX, Patti (Russell) Wright of Yuma, AZ, Phyllis (Keith) Johnson of El Centro, CA; a stepdaughter, Christina (Bill) Fawcett Wells of Hayward, CA; 10 grandchildren; son of Maria M.Rivera and brother of Fred M. Rivera both of Tucson. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, September 18, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum with Father Cyprian officiating, followed by a military service. Inurnment will follow in Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave. (888-1111).

ROMERO, Mark A., 31, of Tucson, passed away September 13, 1998. Preceded in death by father, Fernando Romero. Survived by mother, Alicia Romero; grandmother, Aurora Romero; girlfriend, Joann Puebla; sons, Mark and Issac Romero; sisters, Belen Pacheco (Ruben) and Eliona Duarte (Ray); brothers, Fernando, Freddie, Randy and Christopher. Also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and a special niece, Karena. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 1998, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m., at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Saturday, September 19, 1998, 9:15 a.m., at St. Ambrose Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.

SPECTOR, Hilda, passed away September 15, 1998 at the age of 94. She was the beloved mother of Joan (Jack) Cole of Tucson and Bill (Lois) Spector of Los Angeles. Beloved grandmother of Debbie (Bill) Hanemann, Cathi Cappello and David Cole, all of Tucson and Bob (Brook) Spector of Los Angeles and adoring great-grandmother of Abigail Spector also of Los Angeles. Hilda was born in Cleveland, Ohio and lived in Los Angeles for many years. She moved to Tucson with her husband Jack 11 years ago. She was a life long member of Hadassah. Hilda was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack and beloved grandson, James Spector. Services will be held in Los Angeles on September 17, 1998. Alma Evangelina Steinkuehler, age 42, died Monday, September 14, 1998. A native of Honduras, she moved to Tucson one year ago. She is survived by her husband, Louis of Tucson; sons, Sydney Hernandez of Tucson, Dennis, Jose, and Nolan Hernandez all of Honduras; daughter, Kelly of Tucson; her mother, Lucia Portillo of Honduras and brothers, Javier, Lalo and Marcio Portillo all of Honduras. Visitation Thursday, September 17, 1998 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway). Funeral Mass Friday, September 18, 1998, 10:00 a.m., St. Cyril's Catholic Church, 4725 E. Pima. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. In their profound sorrow and pain, the family deeply appreciated the many messages of condolence and expressions of love for our dear Alma. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. The members of her family look forward to the joyous occasion when they will be reunited with her in heaven.

WUORISALO, Anne. Anne Louise Riley Wuorisalo, age 79, passed away September 14, 1998. She was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts and married Arthur K. Wuorisalo August 16, 1952. Anne moved to Tucson in 1968 with her family from Massachusetts. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Anne was also a staunch supporter for Arizona's Teachers of the Year, as well as for all teachers. Anne is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Arthur; three daughters: Dr. Karen Butterfield (Ernie) of Flagstaff; Elaine Davis (Bruce) and Laurie Wuorisalo Asbury (Joel) of Tucson; five grandchildren, Amanda and Katie Butterfield of Flagstaff; Jason (Nancy) and Ericka Davis; Zackary Asbury; one great-granddaughter, Brittney Davis, all of Tucson. Anne passed peacefully into the arms of God surrounded by her family. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Tucson Saturday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to the charity of one's choice. Desert Rose is handling arrangements at 628-4944.

WALKER, Todd
Todd Walker died at dawn on Sunday, September thirteenth, 1998. He would have been eighty-one on September twenty-fifth. Todd was an internationally known artist whose nontraditional, photography-based work continues to be an inspiration for generations of artists. He was preceded in death by Betty Mae McNutt, his former wife of 44 years, and is survived by his daughters Melanie and Kathleen Walker, his grandchildren Melani Moreno and her husband Luis, Todd Sobrado and his wife Andrea; his great-grandson Hunter Moreno; his nephews Scott Grieger and his wife Alexis Smith and Brian Grieger and his wife Natalie. Todd led and amazing life. After moving from Utah to California as a child, he began the first stage of his professional career at R.K.O. studios as a set designer. During WWII, he flew missions over Picacho Peak while serving in the Air Corps. He returned to California after the war where he began to freelance as an advertising photographer while simultaneously pursuing his personal artwork. At 50, he retired to start his teaching career, which began at the Art Center and U.C.L.A. in Los Angeles. He was later a faculty member at the University of Florida, then returned to Arizona as a professor of art at the University of Arizona. After retiring, again, in 1986 the real work began as he concentrated on his computer-based explorations. In his spare time, Todd was a ham radio operator, amateur astronomer, homebuilder, book artist, baker, painter, gardener, computer programmer, pressman and dart aficionado. His intelligence, wit and compassion are unequaled and he will be missed as a father, mentor and friend by a whole lot of folks. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Todd's family invites you to celebrate his life in your own unique fashion.

AHER, Della Mary, 86, passed away on September 15, 1998. She is survived by her three children, Donna Byers and Dale Hines of Tucson, AZ and Barry Aher of Grantham, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Lisa, Leslie and Katie; her great-grandchildren and her sister, Victoria Chambers of Bradenton, FL. Loving wife of Robert Aher for 51 years, she moved to Tucson in 1988 and enjoyed her last year at the Camlu Retirement Home in Tucson. Her family wishes to give special thanks to her friends and to her caregivers for their patience, understanding and incredible kindness. Ellsworth L. Feldt
March 24, 1925 – September 14, 1998
Beloved husband of Grace for 51 years.Loving father of Barbara (Dan) Tober, Frederick (Lynn). Loving grandfather of Tracy, Patrick (Nicole), Kristin (Mike), Tricia (Ted) and Ryan (Beverly) and great-grandfather of four. He is also survived by sisters, Nancy Kalchert and Beverly Olenik and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Feldt was a WWII Naval veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater in all of the major battles on the USS Minneapolis with great pride. A casual gathering of the family and friends will be held Saturday, September 19, 1998 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the family home 11682 N. Pyramid Point Dr., Oro Valley, AZ 85737. JOHNSON, Stephen 'Sam', 50, of Tucson, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 1998. Stephen is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughters, Jennifer Johnson and Stephanie Van Splunder; and son-in-law, William Van Splunder. A memorial reception will be held September 20, 1998, 1:00 p.m. at Rincon Country West, 4555 S. Mission Road.

ROSE, Michael Eugene, loving husband, went to his Lord on Thursday morning, September 17, 1998. Wilbur Melvin Haase, 69, died September 16, 1998. Husband of Dorothy Haase; father of Terry, Larry and Perry Haase and Sherrilyn Diane; brother of Ray (Peggy) Haase, Vernon (Sheryl) Haase, Mildred Fogel, Alice (John) Green, Marilyn Gray and Carolyn (Bill) Bush. Wilbur was preceded in death by his son, Gary Haase. He was retired from General Electric and Brush Wellman. Wilbur and Dorothy celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary December 7, 1997. He will be missed by all his family and friends. Funeral Service 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 21, 1998 at Faith Lutheran Church, 3925 E. 5th St. with Pastor Donald R. Haase officiating. Marie Therese Kitt, age 70, of Tucson and Chicago, died September 16, 1998. May she be rejoicing with God in Heaven, for she is now a part of those sunsets she loved so well. She is survived by her childhood sweetheart of 57 years, Robert, who loved her dearly. Son, Robert, Jr. of Las Vegas, for whom she had a special place in her heart. Her best friend, companion and loving daughter, Laura (Frank) Hailey; grandson, Dylan Hailey; granddaughter, Katherine Hailey; brother, Charles Rossi of Tucson; sisters, Betty McGee and Collette Matise of Chicago; nieces and nephews of whom she cherished. She had to the end the spirit, energy and dignity she held throughout her life. She will be missed terribly by family and friends. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Cabrini, 3201E. Presidio Rd. on Monday, September 21, 1998 at 5:00 p.m.

LITTMAN, Sandra E., age 35, a lifetime resident of Tucson, passed away September 16, 1998. She is survived by her parents, Juan and Martha Ortiz; children, Andrea Marie Ortiz, Evelyn Nicole Littman, Justine Ivonne Littman, Jocelyn Terian Littman and Matthew Aaron Littman; husband, Brian T. Littman; brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandparents and many other family and friends. MALLINGER, Anna G., 79, of Tucson, died September 18, 1998. MILLER, Les, of Tucson, died September 17, 1998. He worked at Allied Signal for 11 years, and was involved with the space station. Joe Tully, age 81, of Tucson, passed away September 16, 1998. He was a longtime newspaper employee and a descendant of a pioneer Tucson family. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; son, Mike (Kristin) and best friend and granddaughter, Meggie. Joe served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 22, 1998 10:00 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 3201 E. Presidio to be celebrated by Msgr. Robert Fuller. Interment Holy Hope Cemetery. YANDOW, Ruby Duplin. February 10, 1924 to September 17, 1998. Beloved wife of Norman Edward for 57 years; loving mother of Gail-Marie Flieger, Jevon Yandow and Judith-Anne Yandow. Loving grandmother of Jennifer, Jacqueline-Anne, Kevin, Brian, Jeremy, Jonathan and Stephen; also great-grandmother of Jena. Ruby, also known as, 'Dainty' was born in Hartford, Conn. She had a love for both music and dancing and for many years owned her own dance studio. She traveled the world with her husband throughout his military career. She was an avid volunteer both with the Girl Scouts of America, the Catholic Daughters of America and Catholic Youth groups. For her work with the youth she received the highest awards bestowed by the Roman Catholic Church being the 'Pro Deo et Juventute' and the 'Saint Anne Award.' She and her husband established the Third Order of Secular Franciscans in Melbourne, Florida prior to moving to Tucson in 1984. There will be a Mass of Resurrection at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church on Kolb Road on Monday, September 21, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. Interment of her cremains will take place at Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Cemetery on Friday at a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to St. Anthony's Fraternity Secular Franciscan Order. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

Signe Broch Carpenter
Aviator and traveler, feminist and seeker, patriot and veteran, friend and mother. In loving memory of our mother, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the friends and supporters that gave her so much during her life. Born in Delaware City, DE, Signe graduated High School in Wilmington. As a 17-year old, she earned private pilot's license. She graduated from the University of Chicago, class of 1948. Signe served in the WAVEs for the duration of WWII as an air traffic controller. She had successful careers as a banker and realtor, and contributed to her community in many ways as teacher, volunteer and potter. To the last, she shared her joy of life, sense of humor and appreciation of others who walk with us. Signe passed away on Thursday, September 17, 1998. Surviving sons: Douglas of Tucson, David of Sunnyvale, CA, Hugh (Nina) of Tucson, and Bruce (Kristine) of Temecula, CA; granddaughter, Mary Signe of Bellevue, WA; brother, John Broch of Honolulu, HI. No flowers, please. We ask that donations in memory of Signe be made to ALS Association-Southwest Chapter, P.O. Box 85595, Tucson, AZ 85754-5595. Memorial Service to be held at St. Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church, N. Swan at River Road at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23.
