OESTERLE, Evelyn B. (Noss), passed away September 29, 1998. Mother, Grandmother, Teacher, Friend, Evelyn was born May 17, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio. She married Eugene Oesterle, The Boy Next Door, on March 22, 1944. They moved to Tucson in 1952. She returned to school, received a teaching degree and taught 5th grade at Cragin Elementary for 23 years. She was an active member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, spent four years as President of UMW. She enjoyed bowling and working on church bazaar crafts. Survived by Patricia Alexander (James), Pamela Philip (Andy), James Oesterle (Kathy), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous good friends. OLCOTT III, Arthur Wellesley, 76, died September 23, 1998. Husband of Marjorie Olcott. Survived by devoted friends, Michael and Robin Elliott; uncle of John Feeney and Judy Sellers both of Ohio; great uncle of Michael and Bob Feeney of Ohio. Arthur served in the Army and the Corp of Engineers during WWII, he served in both England and Belgium. He worked 38 years for U.S. West Communications, retiring in 1979. Earl Herron, 78, of Tucson, died September 30, 1998. Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley. Robert E. (Bob) Wennerstrom passed away September 30th, 1998.Was born December 22, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his companion, Edith (Midge) Porath of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Diane Fairbanks of Tucson; daughter, Linda Ward of Lancaster, California; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A. Bates Butler, Jr., 90, died September 27, 1998. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Wiley Butler; daughter, Marcia (James) Sherman of San Antonio, TX; son, A. Bates (Annie) Butler III, Tucson; four grandchildren: Katherine (Jeff) Giese, Kelly Sherman, Robert Bates Butler, and Elizabeth Ann Butler; and brother, Dr. Andrew K. Butler of Wheeling, W. VA. Bates was born in Wheeling, W. VA. on May 23, 1908. He received both an A.B. and law degree from the University of West Virginia. Bates practiced law in Wheeling for ten years. In 1942, he joined the FBI as a special agent, moving his family to Tucson in 1956. He ended his career with the FBI in 1963. From 1964 to 1970 he served as Chief Investigator for the Pima County Attorney's Office. In 1970, he was appointed Pima County Justice of the Peace where he served with distinction until his retirement in 1979. For several years thereafter he was requested to return to serve part-time on the Justice Court bench. He was recently honored as a founding member and first chairman of the Tucson Chapter of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, an organization which brought him much fellowship. Always an independent thinker and man of integrity, Bates called them as he saw them. He was a dedicated professional who brought quality to the Justice Court bench. Bates loved teaching new and even experienced lawyers how to conduct themselves in the courtroom. His sense of fairness and what was right served him well in dispensing justice. His humor and quick wit helped in difficult times. One of his favorite duties as JP was performing weddings throughout the Tucson area. Bates was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for 42 years, where he served as elder and trustee. Bates and Mary were active supporters of the American Field Service and hosted three foreign exchange students. Bates was dedicated to his family and set an outstanding example for his children and grandchildren of what it means to be a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A celebration of Bates' life will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 East University, Tucson, AZ 85705 on Sunday, October 11, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, the American Field Service, or the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus.

Lloyd Leath Rabb, Jr., 68, of Tucson, passed away October 1, 1998. Lloyd was raised in the mining town of Ray, AZ. He graduated from the U of Ain 1958 and worked as a railroad conductor from 1955 to 1994. During his life, he was a member of and active in the United Transportation Union and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. EDGEL, James F., lost his brave battle with cancer on October 2, 1998. He was born to Everett and Mildred Edgel of Chesterhill, Ohio, March 29, 1931, who preceded him in death along with his son, Stanley and his sister, Cora. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; and children, Randy (Marti) Gibbs, Laura (David) Esham, Donna (Russell) Cox, all of Arizona, and Steve (Barbara) Edgel of Ohio. Jim is also survived by a brother, Gail (Millie) Edgel; and a sister, Mary Margaret (Bob) Fox; as well as eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a truck driver and teamster member until his retirement in 1994. LINDGREN, Taimi ('Timms') P., born October 23, 1917 and
LINDGREN, Ernest ('Ernie') E., born March 13, 1917. Died September 16 and September 28, 1998, respectively. Both were remarkable people in their own ways and will be most remembered for their courage, humility, and tenacity in overcoming life's obstacles. Their commitment to each other lasted almost 60 years, a feat in itself. Despite major medical problems, they exemplified the vows of a Godly marriage and modeled that relationship for others. Their values, morals, and work ethics were instructive to all who knew them and, because of this, they will continue to live on in memory. Survivors include daughters, Rebecca and husband, John; Teira and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Julie and Steve, step-grandchildren, Kevin and Shawn; great-grandson, Stevie; as well as many brothers and sisters. PETERSON, Alvin C., 84 of Tucson, passed away October 3, 1998. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Ida; children, Loreen Olufson, Bill (Susan) and Carl (Dora) Peterson, Lani (Paul) Burdick; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Peterson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during WWII. A carpenter by trade, Alvin built his own home.
