She is survived by her daughter, Joanne (William) Sullivan; grandchildren, Maxine, Gary, and Linda Pollack; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Clara Haeberlein and Bernice Dehring; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Today is a year that you left us. A day doesn't go by that we don't think of you. We miss you very much and wish you were here. We pray that you are happy and at peace. Dad (Rodolfo S. Leon) is very sick right now, and hope you can ask God to heal him soon. We love you Ramon.
He passed away October 1997. Survived by his two children, Ramon E. Martinez, Jr., Clarissa R. Martinez; parents, Guero aka Rodolfo S. Leon and Panchita aka Francisca A. BIFANO, Daniel F., 73, of Tucson, AZ, passed away October 3, 1998. He was a 20 year resident of Tucson. Daniel was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He was a WWII D-day survivor and a life-long Lion's club member. He is survived by children, Angelo, Linda, Pamela (Jeff) Schweitzer and Lori (David); Divis; grandchildren, Niclas, Steven, Elizabeth, Katie, Christopher Daniel, Carly and Haley; and loving companion, Sharon Hiither. Sister Carmella Smith and brothers, Michael, Albert and Natale also survive. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee from 5:00 to 8:00 p.mm. Wednesday, October 7, 1998. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 1998. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lion's Sight & Hearing Foundation, 1016 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008.

BYERLY, James Robert 'Bob' of Tucson, died October 2, 1998. He was born in 1921 in Bisbee, Arizona. The family moved to Tucson where he attended Tucson High School and the University of Arizona. He received his B.A. from the University of Colorado and his M.B.A from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.During World War II, he was a Navy Pilot, serving in Night Fighter Squadrons on the Carriers USS, Lexington and USS Hornet. His various citations included the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1959, he established Byerly & Company, an employee benefits consulting firm in Denver, Colorado. It continues to carry his name. He is survived by Lora, his wife of 53 years; his daughters, Claire Raines (Husband: Allen Alderman) of Denver, Colorado and Dale Merrill (Husband: Sam Merrill) of Scottsdale, Arizona; and his grandchildren, Stevy and Sawyer Merrill of Scottsdale, Arizona. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, October 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Catalina Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. Contributions may be made to Carondelet Hospice Services (1802 West St. Mary's Road, Tucson, AZ 85745-2690) or the Charleston Naval Airfield Memorial (P.O. Box 488, Charlestown, Rhode Island 02813-0488). No flowers please.

Dewey Allen Hicks, September 23, 1941 – October 3, 1998, 57, died at home following a long illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan McWilliams Hicks; daughters, Savannah Grace Hicks, Tammy Hicks Marshall and Deidre Hicks Connor; stepdaughter, Amanda Lee Bennett; grandchildren, Lucia Connor, Stephanie Connor, Jeffrey Connor, Meredith Marshall, Molly Marshall and Teddy Marshall. He was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 23, 1941. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona. Dewey was associated with A.G. Edwards and Sons for 25 years, serving as Vice-President. He was founding member of Christ the King Church and served for many years as a member of the Vestry. Dewey was very involved in the German Shorthair Pointer Club of America and its local chapter. His Golden Hawk Kennels produced many dogs that gained national recognition as field champions. Throughout his years in Tucson, Dewey touched the lives of many that counted him as a friend forever. We wish to thank those many friends for their love, prayers and support during his illness. A celebration of life will be held at Christ the King Church, 2800 West Ina Road on Thursday, October 8, 1998 at 11:30 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the University of Arizona, Brain Tumor Research, c/o Dr. Allen Hamilton, P.O. JOHNSON, Marion P., 76, a long time resident of Tucson, died Sunday, October 4, 1998 in Kerrville, TX. Preceded in death by her first husband, William Pickens, she is survived by husband, Herbert Charles Johnson of Kerrville, TX; a brother, Aubrey (Bee) Bentley of Tucson and numerous nieces and nephews. RAGALLER, John J., 72, beat cancer on September 30, 1998. Born and raised around Carroll, Iowa, he retired from Amoco Oil Co. and Ragaller Petroleum Service. He was a winter visitor for 25 years before moving here in 1995. He loved golf and was a loyal volunteer for both of PGA and LPGA Tucson events. He was a proud and active resident of Far Horizons Trailer Village (FHTV). He is survived by sons, Kevin Ragaller of Flagstaff and Brian (Laurel) Ragaller; grandchildren, Josef and Greta Ragaller all of Tucson. No services will be held . A celebration of life coffee for friends will be held at FHTV on Sunday, November 1 from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30.

Christopher H. Ruiz, 40, of Tucson, died October 5, 1998. Survived by father, Henry Ruiz; sisters, Bernice Manchester, Tammy and Therese Skinner; grandmother, Consuelo M. Duarte; nephew, Kyle Manchester; nieces, Sara Edward and Brianna Godoy; many cousins and friends. Preceded in death by mother, Celina M. Duarte and grandfather, John L. Duarte. SAGERT, Gerald D., a man who will be missed more than words can express, died suddenly Saturday morning, October 3, 1998. Gerry was a man of great passion, compassion, and strength. Gerry was born in Salinas, California in 1928 and grew up in Lebanon, Oregon. He served a term with the United States Navy before attending Oregon State University. Gerry graduated with a Bachelor's degree and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. Moving to Tucson in 1954, Gerry then attended the University of Arizona where he earned his Master's degree. Gerry then began teaching for the Tucson Unified School District where he went on to become a principal. Gerry devoted 30 years of his life to our communities children being an exemplary example of how a concerned and caring individual should lead his life.Gerry was to have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary to his soulmate and lifelong friend and partner, Marjorie Sagert. Gerry is also survived by his mother, Carrie Sagert and his devoted daughter, Crystal Renner of Tucson and his son, Carl Sagert of Alaska. Also, the delight of Gerry's world, his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth and Clay Renner of Tucson. And, mourning this great loss as well, Gerry's two sisters and their husbands, Carol and Terry Frey of Tucson and Betty and Bob Paisola of California. There will be a service commemorating Gerry's life on October 8th, 10:00 a.m. at Hudgel's SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 1335 S. Swan Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Robert Sarber Heart Center at the University Medical Center. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have spent any time with Gerry must consider ourselves genuinely blessed for the experience.

TORRES, Lucy M., 71, of Willcox, passed away October 3, 1998. Survived by mother, Nativida Mendoza; daughter, Virginia (Daniel) Valdez of Casa Grande, Anita (Fidel) Velasquez from Las Cruces, NM; sons, Nick (Josie) Torres from Redoak, TX., Joe (Frederica) Torres from Midland, TX., Manuel Flores, Jimmie (Stella) Flores from Claremore, OK; sisters, Esther Torres, Gloria Gutierrez; brothers, Quintin, Isidro, Rudy, David Mendoza. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 1998 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, 240 S. Stone Ave. Services will be offered Friday, October 9, 1998, 11:00 a.m. at Flowing Wells Assembly of God, 3198 N. Flowing Wells Rd. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. WNUK, Doris J., 70, of Tucson, died October 3, 1998. She is survived by a son, Brian Edward Lee of CA; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lee of Sparks, NV; grandchildren, Sabrina Spencer, Jacquelyn Lee and Kevin Lee; a great-granddaughter, Alexis Gray all of Sparks, NV: sisters, JoAnne Zartler of TX, Julie Flint of IL; brother, Chris Willman of FL. Mrs. Wnuk was predeceased by her husband, Vincent B. Wnuk and sister, Lu Willman. There are to be no services. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY.

BROWN, Esther Fisher, 92, passed away October 5, 1998. Born on January 16, 1906, she was the daughter of Anna Norwood and Horace Andrew Davis. Her husband of 65 years, Ralph Wolcott Brown, died in 1981. She is preceded in death by her brother, Hallowell Davis and her sister, Sarah Pope. She is survived by her son, Nathaniel Hapgood Brown of Fredericksburg, VA and daughter-in-law, Derval Cohalan Brown; son, Geoffry Gates Brown of Marlboro, VT; son, Longstreth Hallowell 'Cooper' Brown of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Eleanor Whitney Nelson, also of Tucson, and her husband, Frank John Nelson. Also granddaughter, Curry Haydock Brown of Hillsborough, NC; grandson, Mackenzie Gates Brown and his wife, Yuki of Seattle, WA; grandson, Whitney Walcott Brown of Petersburg, VA, as well as her brother, Horace Bancroft Davis of Chicago, IL. She was a graduate of the Winsor School in Boston and attended Radcliffe and Barnard Colleges. A lifelong Quaker, she was a truly gentle woman. She loved music and played viola with the Staten Island (NY) Symphony and the Greenwich (CT) Chamber Orchestra, as well as sang with the Greenwich Choral Society. In 1987 she accompanied the Surry (ME) Opera Company on their performing tour in Russia. As a longtime resident of North Brooklin, ME, she was active with the Telephone Pioneers and the Democratic party. She was also the author of the historical novel, 'Gaul is Divided'. Always adventurous, she flew the English Channel in 1924–now she is flying free. We miss her and wish her safe journey. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. CARBAJAL, Shelly Jean, 46, of Tucson, died October 6, 1998. Survived by husband, David J. Carbajal; children, Jami S. Nivison and William C. Black; parents, Eugene and Betty Sheldon; granddaughter, Victoria J. Nivison all of Tucson; sister, Julie Raymond of Avondale, AZ; nine half sisters and a host of other family and friends. Shelly was employed several years at University Medical Center NICU and Dr. Katakkar Oncology Dept. Service, Friday, 12:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY with Rev. Justin Wade Ennis, 19, of Tucson, passed away October 4, 1998. He is survived by his parents, Denny and Joyce and one brother, Jeremy. Funeral Service 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 8 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Rev. David Houchin officiating. FICKETT, Ruth E., passed away in Tucson on October 4, 1998, she was 98 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Fickett who passed away in 1991. She is survived by her three sons, Wildon Fickett of Los Alamos, NM and Robert Fickett and Howard Fickett of Tucson, AZ. Fred W. Fickett was early in his career a judge in the Superior Court of Pima County and after that, an attorney in Tucson. He also served on the Tucson School Board for many years. The Booth Fickett Magnet School is named after him. Fred and Ruth were active in the First Baptist Church of Tucson for most of their long residence here. Ruth taught the L.L.L. (Love, Labor and Loyalty) class for single women for many years. She was also active in supporting missionaries, among them, Mary Fickett Howes (Fred's sister) and her husband Roger Howes in China. A Memorial Service will be held in Sleeth Chapel of the First Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial gifts to the Mission Fund of the First Baptist Church.

Harrold Wayne Gross, 79, of Tucson, died October 5, 1998. Survived by wife, Elaine M. Gross; sons, Allen W. (Karen E.) of Phoenix and Craig L. (Lynda) of Tucson; granddaughter, Erin Marie Gross. Mr. Gross retired after 30 years with the M.M. Sundt Corp. He was a WWII US Army veteran receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of F & AM #4, American Legion Morgan McDermott Post #7, and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #857. Service Friday, 2:00 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY with Dr. Lee Stith officiating. Interment to follow Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors by Ft. Huachuca Honor Guard. KRIEG, George W., 86, of Tucson, was chosen by God on October 3, 1998 to be reunited in Heaven with is wife, Viola and his daughter, Sharon. He is survived by his children, Judith, Alan, David and Randall; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. George's life was filled with numerous experiences in which he took great pride. They include County Commissioner and Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Oregon, life member of the American Legion and NRA, Master Gardener and Past President of The Mens Garden Club. He also served his country with the US Navy during WW II. An avid hunter and fisherman, his love for the outdoors was always evident which included 'having lunch with the guys and taking a nap'. Above all, his greatest sense of joy was his family. He will be sorely missed. Memorial Service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Saturday, October 10, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sharon E. Krieg Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Pima College, 4905 E. Broadway, Bldg. McHENRY, Nadine J., 92, of Dayton, Ohio, and a long time resident of Arizona, died September 22, 1998. She was born in Paola, Kansas and moved with her parents to Arizona in 1910 to the Kansas Settlement near Willcox. She moved to Tucson in 1927. During her life she was a teacher, secretary, bookkeeper, librarian, housewife and mother. Her life was highlighted by a strong desire to serve her community. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Mier; son, Jim McHenry; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside Service 2:00 p.m. Friday, South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Ave., Tucson. Son of Shirley Mulvaney of Tucson, Arizona; brother of Vicky Sedgwick of Canoga Park, California, Teri Mulvaney of Tucson, Arizona, Stephen Mulvaney of Gallup, New Mexico and Marcy Mulvaney of Alexandria, Virginia; uncle of Ian, Dacia, and Nathan Hicks and Emily and Hannah Sedgwick.
