FEAGAIGA, Iuliana, 40 passed away October 14, 1998. Iuliana was born in American Samoa on June 8, 1958. She recently moved from Honolulu, HI and was a resident of Tucson since 1996. She will be greatly missed by her parents, Feagaiga S. Ugaitafa (father), Maima F. Ugaitafa (mother); four sisters, Tusi, Asovale, Taiana, Pela; six brothers, Mene, Vae, Scotty, Henry, David; 26 nieces and nephews and grandparents, Tosi and John. We express our most heartfelt thanks to Iuliana's doctor and his staff and to the staff of Northwest Medical Hospital for their great support, kindness and compassion. Funeral Service will be at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, an Aftercare Provider, 5801 E. Grant Rd, Wednesday, October 21, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

FENDO, Michael J., 89, of Tucson and formerly of Chicago passed away October 19, 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne. Michael is survived by his sisters, Angie, Dorothy, Rose and brother, Pete. Also by children, Cheryl (Larry) Olson of Tucson, Dennis (Gretchen) Fendo of Fairfield, CT and and Verene Monaco of Phoenix. Additionally Mike is survived by nine grandchildren, Michelle, Cheryl, Valerie, Chelsea, Jennifer, Zachary, Joshua, Delaney and Justin as well as six great-grandchildren. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and later for M.M. Sundt until his retirement in 1974. For over 45 years, 'Mike' was actively involved at Ss. Peter and Paul and St. Frances Cabrini parishes, the Salpointe Dad's Club and the Benedictine Convent. A Welter Weight Golden Gloves boxing Champion in Chicago, Mike devoted years in Tucson to teaching young men the fundamentals of boxing and 'How to stand up for yourself'. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church. Entombment in Holy Hope Mausoleum. Friends may call Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Family strongly suggests memorial donations be sent to Carondelet Hospice Services, 1802 W. St. Mary's Rd., Tucson, AZ 85745. FREEMAN, Marian Rose, was born in Chicago on May 31, 1907. She married Ellving Freeman in 1925, and had one daughter, Dorothy Doust. Marian moved to Michigan in 1930, and she and Ellving began wintering in Tucson in the late 1940's, and then became permanent residents here in the 1950's. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Ellving in 1971; her long time companion, Art Kountz; her brother, George; sisters, Lilian and Anna and her son-in-law, Norman Doust. Marian is survived by her daughter, Dorothy; her sisters, Frances Evans; her cousin, Eva Figg and her nieces, Della, Dale, Danna, Lou Anne, Lora and her nephew, Arnold Johnson. Marian Freeman will be greatly missed by her daughter, Dorothy; her sister, Frances and all those who loved and cared for her. Graveside Service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 20th at TMP South Lawn. HEPBURN, Lynn Van, 59, of Tucson, passed away October 18, 1998. Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Pauline. His daughter, Mary Jane Pottebaum and two sons, Paul Sherman and Bob Dexter also survive. Lynn will be missed by his spiritual brothers, Hal Halbedel and Ed Kaminski. Lynn owned Southwest Optical Technologies from 1993 to 1998. His expertise in Optics aided discoveries at the frontier of astronomy. A memorial service will be held at 3405 E. River Road on Thursday, October 22, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. with Graveside services at Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek, Arizona on Wednesday, October 21, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tucson High School Astronomy Club. Arrangements by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N TUCSON BLVD, 327-6341.

RICE, Trinidad, 73, of Tucson, died October 18, 1998. Survived by husband, David Rice; daughters, Susan (Don) Saffer, Julie Davis, Marilyn (Bart) Sullivan; son, Greg (Lori) Rice and 14 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Daniel Rice. Mrs. Rice was proud to have been a school teacher for many years. Service Wednesday, October 21, 1998, 10:00 a.m. Evergreen Mortuary. Interment to follow Temple Emanu-El Section, Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

BEAMER, Wilford R. Sr., passed on October 18, 1998. He was born March 21, 1924 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He worked for the Palace Furniture Co. there until its closing in 1981. Moving to Tucson in 1986, he worked for Continental Security until retiring in 1990. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet A. Beamer in 1993. Surviving family are daughter, Constance A. Strum; son, Wilford R. Beamer, Jr.; grandchildren, John W. Strum, Raymond D. Strum, Malissa Wlaskolich and eight great-grandchildren all of Tucson. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, an Aftercare Provider, 5801 E. Grant Rd, Wednesday, October 21, 1998 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be held at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Rest in peace, Daddy, we both will miss you.

CARDENAS VALENZUELA, Mercedes, 73, of Tucson, passed away October 19, 1998. Daughters, Maria (Wally) Wronowski, Teresa Cardenas and Graciela G. Navarro; sons, Daniel (Frances) Grijalva and Ramon(Juanita) Navarro; sisters, Carmen Cardenas, Guadalupe Guarduno and Elena Barra; brothers, Marco (Teresa) and Francisco (Ma. Santos) Cardenas. Also survived by 11 grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 1998 from 5:00to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. CASEY, Nancy Anne, born April 21, 1941, passed away October 16, 1998 at the age of 57. Survived by her three children; four grandchildren. She was loved by one and all. Services were held Tuesday, October 20, 1998 at Fairmount Mormon Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 1998 at South Lawn Cemetery Rose Garden. HOBBS, Joe Russell, Jr., 81 years of age, died on Monday, October 12, 1998 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born on October 16, 1916 in Ray, Arizona. He graduated from the University of Arizona, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He joined the Marine Corps and retired as a Lt. Colonel. Joe was a Certified Public Accountant and a retired partner of Coopers & Lybrand. He was a member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and an Elder. He also served as a member of the Foundation Board of the Good Neighbor Health Care Clinic. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, John A. Hobbs of Houston; daughter, Vicky Smith and husband, Paul; grandson, Leighton; granddaughter, Christian, all of Delray Beach, Florida; brothers, Tom and Mabel Hobbs of Tucson, Arizona, James Hobbs of Long Beach, California and Charles and Helen Hobbs of Chappell Hill, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Burial was held at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas on October 16, 1998.

JAMES, Esther Boe, born May 24, 1916 in Minneapolis, MN. Graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and Columbia Teachers College, N.Y. married Robert C. James in 1946 who preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Robert Boe James, Richard James and Ronald James; one daughter, Ellen Rockholm and six grandchildren also survive her. She was active in the church especially singing in the choir. She belonged to the Norseman Federation, Women's Auxiliary, American Institute of Mining Engineers. A memorial service will be held at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St. in Tucson at 12:00 noon, Friday, October 23, 1998. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church or Boe Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Olaf College, 1520 St. Olaf Ave. Northfield, MN 55057. KATA, Joseph B., 73, of Tucson, passed away October 16, 1998. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Jacqueline; two brothers, Walter and Bruno and one sister, Irene (Leonard) May. Joseph was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa and one brother, John. Words cannot express the loss felt by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Military Honors by Davis Monthan Air Force Base. KNIGHT, Regina, 75, passed away October 19, 1998. Survived by dear friends, Cathy and Branson Smith, Jackie and Kenneth Byrd, Aaron Byrd, Nancy and Andy Keefer, Betty Nitka, Gail Toth and Richard and Ursela. William L. (Mack) McHenry, born April 16, 1908 in Van Buren, Indiana, passed away October 19, 1998 in Tucson, AZ. Mack was predeceased by his wife, Eva to whom he was married 56 years. Mack is also predeceased by his parents William T.S. and Olive McHenry; brother, Carl McHenry and sister, Lenore White. Mack and Eva are survived by sons, William and Richard; daughter, Martha and eight grandchildren. Mack retired from Hughes Aircraft Company in Tucson in 1972 where he was employed as a Purchasing Supervisor for 22 years. Eva was a long time employee of the Tucson Sunshine Climate Club. Both were avid Trap Shooting competitors for many years in Tucson. Mack and Eva moved to Tucson with their three children from Marion, Indiana in 1950 for Eva's health. She enjoyed many good years in Tucson's climate. They are shown here on their 50th anniversary. They will long be remembered and loved by family and friends.

MELGREEN, Wayne Donald, died October 19, 1998. Mr. Melgreen was born August 17, 1925 in Torrance, California and was 22 year resident of Tucson. He served his country as a SeaBee in the South Pacific during WW II. He was an employee of General Electric Company for 17 years, living on both the East and the West coast during this employment. Upon moving to Tucson he became active in developing and managing property at Ryan Field in his quest to further General Aviation. He has been a private pilot since 1945 and has held his FAA A & P license since 1947 and his FAA IA license since 1982. He became a Master Mason in 1952 belonging to Mt. Tabor Lodge #42 of Portland, Oregon. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dee Melgreen of Tucson; his daughters, Melody L. (Alan) Stobbe of Tucson and Melissa A. Melgreen of Portland, Oregon. He will be missed by all who new him. Services will be private. Donations may be made in his memory to the Pima Air & Space Museum, 6000 E. Valencia Road, Tucson, AZ 85706. MEZA, Alicia B., 70, of Tucson, passed away October 19, 1998. Survived by husband, Joseph Meza; daughters, Teresa M. (David) Rivera and Hope (Patrick) Pina; sons, Anthony Joseph (Kandis) and Joseph Francis Meza; sisters, Bertha Sanchez, Olivia Bustamante and Evelyn (Sonny) Polanco; brothers, Louie (Esther) and Frank (Jessie) Bustamante; grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Rivera, Patrick, Albert, and Vanessa Pina. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 1998 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, October 23, 1998, 9:00 a.m. also at Santa Cruz Church. RILEY, Anne H. nee Kane. Born in Binghamton, NY on April 10, 1912. Died in Tucson, AZ, October 18, 1998. Preceded in death by her husband, James and her sister, Margaret 'Peg' (Terrance) Sullivan. Survived by brothers, Robert (Louise) Kane and Roger (Agnes) Kane of Binghamton, New York; her son, James (Josie) of Tucson, AZ; and grandchildren, Christine Riley of Wichita, KS, Gabrielle Jurecky, Kara Woolridge and James Riley of Tucson, AZ, plus three great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Anne moved with her family to Tucson, Arizona in 1948 for her asthma, which was greatly improved by the climate and she went on to lead a productive and active life. She worked in various businesses and served as Office and Accounts Manager at Myerson's White House Department Store until its closing. She was a founding member of Our Mother of Sorrows Church and served on finance and construction committees for many years. She was best known for her devotion to her family and the Church for her sense of humor and her business acumen. Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, October 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows, 1800 S. Kolb Rd. Funeral arrangements are being made by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson, AZ. Following the Funeral she will be interred next to her husband in Holy Hope Cemetery. After the church and cemetery ceremonies the Moses, of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, will host an informal light meal and refreshments in the church hall. The family requests that donations be made to Casas de los Ninos, 1101 N. 4th Ave., Tucson, AZ 85705, in lieu of flowers. The family is greatly appreciative of the care and understanding of her physician and of the caregiving provided to Anne, particularly during the last year by Senior C.A.R.E.S., Carondelet Healthy Seniors, Jewish Family and Children Services, and El Dorado Hospital.

SCHULTZ, Elizabeth (Liz), age 40 of Tucson, Arizona, died Sunday, October 18th, 1998. Liz was born June 2, 1958 in Fresno, California, the city where her maternal grandparents, Hal and Cecily Verble still live today. She spent her first eight years in St. Louis, Missouri before she moved to Chicago, Illinois. Liz has been living in Tucson, Arizona for the past 16 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Groth and paternal grandparents, Isabelle Groth and Lee Groth. She is survived by many friends and a large and loving family which include her children, Jack Rudzina, Nicole Rudzina and Brian Schultz; her mother, Joan Sturdevant and her brothers, Eric (Beverly) Groth, Kevin (Colleen) Groth and sister, Karin (Thomas) Roberts. She was employed by PIMA Health Systems, a government agency. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 1998 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, DODGE CHAPEL, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Tucson, Arizona. A second memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 1998 at St. Clements Catholic Church on 1510 Bopp Road, St. Louis, Missouri. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made for her children to the Elizabeth Schultz Memorial Fund at Bank of America, El Con Branch, 3480 E. BERGER, Gertrude Mitchell, 88 years of age, died in Tucson, Arizona on October 21, 1998 of congestive heart failure. Preceded in death by loving husband, Leo Berger; loving brothers, Moses, Leonard and Lester Mitchell. Survived by two loving children, Paul of Tucson and Mary Jo Berger of New York City; loving son-in-law, Loren Day; her adoring five grandchildren, Zeke Berger, Star Jamilla Berger, Jasmine Rose Berger, Michelle Berger and Lilly Sophia Day.Gertrude is also survived by loving brothers and sister, Jordan and Adrian Mitchell and Sela Goldberg. Gertrude Berger is a graduate of Julliard School of Music and earned her Masters degree from Columbia University. She taught music in the New York City Public School System for 27 years. KIMMENAU, Julie – Anne, 28, of Tucson, died October 14, 1998. She is survived by her children, Patricia Anne, Alexis Jeanine and Bryanna Lynn Vawter and Ryan David Kelly; parents, Ronald and Beatrice Kimmenau; brother, Ron Kimmenau, Jr.; grandparents, Joseph and Beatrice Birishof New York. MAJCHRZAK, E. Leone, age 72. Born in St. Catherine, Canada on December 30, 1925. Passed away in Tucson, AZ, October 20, 1998. Preceded in death by her husband, Louis Majchrzak and son, Michael. Survived by daughter, Laurie (Kenneth) Albrecht; son, Stanley (Toni); grandchildren, Michael, Brandy, Jennifer, Misty, Brianna, Kevin, Jacqueline and Jessica and great-grandson, Jordan. She moved to San Fernando, CA with Louis in 1952. She worked for 27 years for San Fernando Valley Motors and after retiring, moved to Tucson in 1989. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel, 8650 N. Shannon Rd. Saturday, October 24, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. MCCORMICK, John J., born March 27, 1919 and departed October 20, 1998. 'Johnnie' may be gone from this Earth but will always reside within our hearts. Those who have been left behind until they meet again are: Margret, his wife of 55 years; his sons and their families, Mike, Pat, Mark, Matt; his loving sisters and their families, Nellie, Joyce and Janet. John spent 30 years in the U.S. Air Force and continued to work at Davis-Monthan after retiring as a civilian worker. His last two years were spent at Valley Healthcare Center where he was visited daily be his wife. We want to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Valley Healthcare center for their kindness and the care they extended to John. Visitation will be at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 24, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Cabrini Church. Entombment will be at Holy Hope Mausoleum with full military honors by the Davis-Monthan Elite Honor Guard.
