Robert James 'Mac' McKinney
Was born in Lawrence, KS on August 1, 1919. He is survived by his wife, Iris, the 'Flower' of his life for 52 years; his son, Scott McKinney, his wife, Gwen and their two sons, Seth and Ryan; daughter, Marcia Stamper, her husband, Eddie and their two daughters, Megan and Nichole, all of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Joan Culver, her husband, Gregory and their three daughters, Jenna, Danielle and Tessa of Los Lunas, NM. Also surviving is a sister, Betty Lou Johnson of Lawrence, KS and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Millie McKinney and by his two brothers, Merle and Alvin.
Mac spent his early days on the family dairy farm in Lone Star and graduated from high school in Lawrence where he was a star football player. He attended Baker University at Baldwin City, KS. prior to entering military service and WWII. Mac entered the Army in 1940 but soon transferred to the first group that formed the Army Air Corp. He served in Alaska and in Europe and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and American Defense Service Ribbons. He was discharged in 1945 as a Master Sergeant Flight Chief. Mac's Unit was stationed at Laurel, Ms. in 1944 for a short period of time where he met Iris. They were married in 1946 and lived in Lawrence where their three children were born.
Mac and Iris and their family moved to Tucson in 1957 where Mac operated his own radiator shop on 6th Ave for many years. He was a retired machinist but kept busy in his shop making and mending 'grandchildren' things and making parts for other machinists but never retired from giving of himself as a husband, father, grandfather and neighbor.
Mac was a Deacon at First Brethren Church who also served in other capacities for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to: First Brethren Church, 201 N. Columbus, Tucson, AZ 85711.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Brethren Church on Friday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m. to be followed by a 'Big Mac Celebration' at 8926 E. Harborage Dr. Bring a happy memory to share. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, an Aftercare Provider.
MIRAVAL, George Shaw, Sr., 80, of Tucson, passed away October 20, 1998. Survived by daughter, Dolores (Jose) Torres; son, George Miraval, Jr., also survived by one sister, two brothers, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. MUELLER, Norman A., 86, died October 20, 1998, in Tucson. He lived a long and fruitful life, and was well loved by family and friends alike. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he also volunteered many hours of his time as a pianist and organist for the entertainment of nursing home residents. He owned Norm's Hardware Store from 1965 to 1976. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, October 24 at 9:00 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Church, in the 1500 block of North Campbell Avenue across from University Hospital. The church is wheelchair accessible from the Lee St. entrance. He is survived by his wife, Caroline (Freund); sons, James (Judy) of Tucson, Keith (Jerry) of Peoria, Arizona, Kenneth (Shirley) of West Lafayette, Indiana; and grandsons, Michael, Paul, Steven, and Matthew, all of Tucson. RIOS, Albert S., 42, of Tucson, passed away October 18, 1998. Survived by mother, Urbana Maldonado; daughters, Natacia, Ramona and Elycia Lena Rios; sisters, Mary McCloskey, Evangeline, Sylvia and Carol Rios; brothers, Edward, Manuel, Joseph Rios and Margarito Maldonado. TOOLAN, Margaret, age 92, of Tucson, AZ, died October 20, 1998. Margaret was born in Ireland in 1906. She lived in New York until moving to Tucson 30 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen; and daughter, Brigid Frances. Her sister, Mary Murphy of Ireland survives her. Margaret was a member of Catholic Daughters of America. CARREON, Henry S. Born in 1915, died in San Antonio, Texas on October 21, 1998.
Survived by his wife, Alicia Briones Carreon and children, Henry Jr, Lee, Hugo, Jaclyn, and Ann Marie of San Antonio. He is also survived by sister, Alicia (Mario) Saldamando and his aunt, Sophie Smith of Nogales, AZ. Sisters-in-law, Ethel Carreon, Eloese Carreon, many grandchildren and cousin, Carlos Higuera of Tucson. Former pharmacist in Tucson and World War II veteran. Services will be in San Antonio.
Mary Moak Fall, 44, former National Sales Manager at the Westin La Paloma Resort in Tucson, died Wednesday, October 21, 1998, at home after a 3-year battle with cancer. She was the mother of Nathan Fall, 13, and Molly Fall, 9.
Born December 8, 1953 and raised in Santa Ana, California, she was the daughter of Pauline (Jackson) Moak of Tucson, and the late Major David R. Moak (USMC). She graduated from Saddleback High School in 1971 and attended California State University, San Diego.
Ms. Fall's 20-year career in the hotel and hospitality industry included sales management posts at several resort hotels. Before moving to Tucson in 1993, she was Director of Sales at the Doubletree Hotel in Monterey, California.
In addition to her children and mother, survivors include her sisters and brother-in-law, Jill Moak and Benson Ford of Berkeley, California; and Paula Moak Hatfield of Parker Dam, Arizona; and two nephews, Mark Hatfield of Tempe and Daniel Hatfield of Costa Mesa, California.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the Aster Room at the Westin La Paloma Resort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ms. Fell's name to Carondelet Hospice of Tucson (1802 W. St. Mary's Rd., Tucson, 85745). The Mary L. FAULKENBERRY, Margie J. (Bishop), 87, of Tucson, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 1998. Margie is survived by her three sons, Randall (Renee), Robert and Curtis (Maria) Bishop. Also surviving Margie are 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Letabeth Sharp, Crystal Mills; brother, Sonny Deen. FRITTON, Arthur James, of Callahan, Florida, died October 14, 1998. LARRIVEE, Ruth Helen Howell, 71, born in Aberdeen, S.D., former longtime resident of Tucson, passed away October 21, 1998 at her home in Chino Valley, AZ. She is survived by daughter, Patricia (John) Aschenbrenner of Chino Valley; granddaughter, Rachel Gordon; grandsons, Cody and Justin Aschenbrenner; four sisters and two brothers. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Roger; son, Roger, Jr.; and grandson, Matthew Gordon. She will be best remembered for her zany sense of humor and her devotion to her family. LAWRENCE, Kathleen Grace, 47. God need a very special angel in Heaven. He asked Kathleen for her help on October12, 1998 in Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Lawrence attend Saint Cyril's Elementary School, Rincon High School and graduated from the University of Arizona. She owned and operated Desert Dove Bookstore for the past nine years. Survivors include her husband, Bradley T.; sons, Benjamin T. and John Daniel; daughter, Serafina G.; parents, Robert and Helen Carlson; in-laws, Lee and Joanne Lawrence; sister, Melanie G. MARDIS, Dovie, 94, passed away on October 20, 1998. She was born in Petrolia, Texas, on October 10, 1904. In 1937, she moved to Tucson at the age of 23 with her husband, Ivan. Dovie and Ivan founded Mardis Studios, which served private photographic clients and produced yearbook photographs for area high schools for many years. She holds the distinction of being the longest standing member of the women's service organization, Altrusa, and was an active member of Catalina Methodist Church. Dovie was pre-deceased by her husband, Ivan; and her son, Rener. She is survived by her son, Keith of Tucson; granddaughters, Toby Mardis of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York; and Terry Mardis of San Francisco; sister, Opal McCauley of Lake San Marcos, CA; and two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Sarah Katz. The family wishes to thank all those friends who supported Dovie with their love and assistance. WILSON, Eunice R., 71, loving mother and wife, entered into eternal sleep October 21, 1998. She was a native of Arizona, living in Willcox, Yuma and retiring in Tucson. She worked for the U.S. Farm Service agency for 35 years as a Program Assistant for Administration and Conservation Programs.
