DEE, John Phillip, died November 17, 1998 in Tucson. John was born to Louis V. and Ruth M. DiGiambatista on June 30, 1915. John received his Law Degree from Catholic University in Washington D.C., passed the Bar and served 36 years as an attorney with the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C. He also served in the US Army during World War II. John was preceded in death in 1989 by his beloved wife of 52 years, Lillian L. Dee. He is survived by his sisters, Nancy Meloney of Springfield, PA and Ruth Quinn of Ontario, CA; his brother-in-law, Allan (Adeline) Osmann of Sioux Falls, SD and his sisters-in-law, Rae Dolce of Longwood, FL, Carolyn DiGiambatista (Kenny Marsh) of Folsom, PA and Lucille Senko (Michael) of Tucson.Other survivors include many nieces and nephews. MASTRANGELO, Donald, 74, died November 29, 1998. He was born in Johnson City, N.Y. Survived by his family who loved him and will miss him. His wife, Angie; his children, Michael and Henderix, Michelle and Will Sutton, Donald and Lil. His much loved grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa and C.J. Mastrangelo and Samantha and Charlie Sutton. His brothers, Louis and Glenda, Tony and Patricia and Vincent. His mother-in-law, Palma Padula and many cousins including the traveling cousins, Theresa and Giudo La Viola. His nieces and nephews who completed his family. He has touched all who knew him with his humor, his laughter, his kindness and gentle nature. His strength will be with us always. He received his Bachelors Degree at the University of New York-Sunny-Binghamton and his Masters at Syracuse University, N.Y. He retired from teaching math and science at Union-Endicott H.S., Endicott, N.Y., where his students called him 'Mr. Mash.' He served in WWII as a B-17 pilot in Europe. He was a known musician in Binghamton. His family moved to Tucson in 1980. He was employed at Davis-Monthan AFB and retired in 1990. Warren Dewitt Moon, 84, passed away November 27, 1998. Born November 16, 1914 in Ashtabula, Ohio, son of Eben D. and Florence Hooker Moon. Predeceased by parents and two brothers, Eben, Jr. and David. Survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Betty; son, Dewitt 'Tony'; daughters, Lynn Altieri and Cynthia Moon Albanese; grandchildren, Joseph and Mia Altieri, Warren II (M'Liss), Amy (Rick) Atchison and Christine (Jon) Halvorson and two great-grandchildren. Warren attended the Hull School, Pottstown, Pan., Graduated from University School, Cleveland, Ohio and attended Williams College where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. During World War II he was commissioned Ensign, SC, USNR and served in the Ninth Naval District and aboard the USS Arkansas at the Battles of Iwo Juma and Okinawa. He was a registered architect in Arizona and Colorado and certified by the NCARB. He was a former Vice President of Place and Place Architecture, a Contract Administrator for Arabian Sundt, and during retirement a consultant to Tucson Airport Authority. During his years with Place and Place he was involved in the design and construction of Rincon High School, Tucson Federal Tower, Pima County Administration Building, McKale Center and numerous other structures in Tucson and Southern Arizona.Warren was a former member of the Toledo, Ohio and Tucson Rotary Clubs, the American Institute of Architects and Construction Specifications Institute. He had been director and president of the Sunrise Ridge Townhomes Homeowners Assoc., and the Greer, AZ. Property Owners Association. He was a former member of the Tucson Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and served as a Docent at the Arizona Historical Society. Mary Guadalupe Ott (Mia), 84, passed away to meet her loving Lord on November 28, 1998. She was a member of a Tucson pioneer family. Her grandfather, Hylor Ott, was Pima County Sheriff from 1871-72. Ott Street was named after him and the street was once the entrance to the presidio of Tucson. Mia was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on May 12, 1914. Her father was a 30 year employee of Wells Fargo Transfer Company. At an early age, the family moved to Nogales, Arizona. In 1927, the family moved back to Tucson where the Ott family had lived since 1867. Mia graduated from Tucson High School in 1931 and the University of Arizona in 1935. As a teacher of 42 years in the Tucson Unified School District, she touched the lives of countless young people. Herteaching career took her to Borton Elementary School, Roskruge Junior High School, Tucson High School, Catalina High School and Sahuaro High School, where she retired in 1977 as head of the Modern Languages Department. She enjoyed traveling and studying in Spain, Mexico, Colombia and Japan. During World War II, her summers were spent working for the Southern Pacific Railroad preparing the wiring on outdoor switches. She was an avid gardener and a member of the Tucson Botanical Gardens, the Bonzai Association, the Rose Society, and the Catholic Daughters. She volunteered for years as a Spanish interpreter at the University Medical Center. In her late retirement years, she lived at Campana Del Rio and in her last months at Casa De Compania where the caring administration and staff helped her. Her family wishes to thank all those individuals who provided love and care to Mia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Maria Ott; her sister-in-law, Betty Ott; and her niece, Elizabeth (Bizi). She is survived by two brothers, Charles H. Ott III, and Frank E. Ott (Eleanor); and five nieces and nephews: Charles 'Chuck' H. Ott IV (Susan), children, Cicely, Quinto and Stephen; Mary Ellen Hardin (Larry), children, Jeremy, Joshua and Jonathan; Frank R. Ott (Kathy), children, Marie and Ross; Tricia Ginter (Pete), children, Kimberly and Seth; and Lisa Avramis (Tom), children, Alethea and Stefan. She is also survived by her relatives from Colima, Mexico-the Ceballos and Oldenbourg families, and Tucson, AZ. Mia will be remembered fondly by many Tucson residents whose lives have been enriched by having known her. Gerald 'Jerry' Lee Pryde, 44, passed away Saturday, November 28, 1998. Born in Osceola Mills, PA, August 29, 1954. Preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Pryde and brother, William Samuel Pryde. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a permanently disabled veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans #18. Survived by his father, Lee Pryde of Tucson; sisters, Cheryl Pototsky of Tucson and Kristen Stunkard of Connecticut. Also survived by eight nieces and nephews, many aunts and uncles. Janet Conelly Sessions, 59, was taken from her loving family and friends November 25, 1995 in a car accident near Florence, AZ. Janet is survived by her husband, Charles of Scottsdale; son, Brent of Bethesda, MD; mother, Pauline Conelly; brothers, Fred and Craig Conelly of Tucson; sister, Sylvia Davis of Tampa, FL. In addition she had an extended family of friends and students with whom she shared affection and concerns. Born in Tucson, Janet attended Tucson Senior High School and completed Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Arizona in piano performance and music education. In 1962, she began teaching for the Madison School District and Scottsdale Community College then also at Phoenix College where she taught courses in Humanities, Music Theory, and Piano Performance. She became renowned in the Phoenix fine arts community as a choral director, chair of the Phoenix Symphony Guild, the Children's Music Memory program, a classical music radio education program on KUNC/KBAQ, the PC Magazine TV show for public television, narrator for the Phoenix Symphony Chorale, the Phoenix Symphony Opera Chorus and the ASU Choral Union. She worked on many music projects with her husband, Charles, chairman of the Scottsdale Community College music department. In 1988, she was named Educator of the Year by the Arizona Music Educators Association of which she was a past president and was named Music Educator of the Year in 1995 by the National Classical Music Coalition. She was a member of the American Choral Directors Association an National Society of Arts and Letters as well as president of the Western Division of the Music Educators National Conference Board. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 1998 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1500 W.Maryland, in Phoenix. JONES, Charles Edward 'Chuck' Born May 12, 1942 and stayed with us only until November 25, 1998. Chuck was an avid race fan, hiker, enjoyed archaeology, gold panning, and jewelry making. He was loved by all who knew him. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Ollie Mae Bennett Kaylor, widow of Bascom S. Kaylor passed away in Tucson on Saturday, November 28, 1998. She was born in Waller, TX. on May 28, 1923 and moved to Tucson with her parents at an early age. She graduated from Tucson High with the Class of 1942. That class was unusual in that for many years until the present time, the class held a luncheon on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, which was in effect a monthly class reunion. Ollie Mae was one of the most active members of the class. After graduating in 1942, Ollie got a job with the Southern Arizona Bank, and later worked at the Assessor's office in Tucson, and held other jobs with governmental agencies. Ollie's parents predeceased her. Her closest relatives are cousins who live out of state. Ollie was loved by all who knew her. Patricia Ann Power Keeley, Age 67, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away November 28, 1998. Survived by beloved husband, Thomas and six loving children, Kevin (Mona), Chris (Kathy), Jim (Theresa), Kit, Colleen (Mark) Thielen, Maureen (Mark) Vassberg and 11 grandchildren. Elizabeth Massey Morse, 74, died on November 24, 1998. She was born in Duncan, Oklahoma to James William Massey and Mary Roark Massey. In 1942, she married Ralph Skidmore (USAF) who died in 1953. She was married to Boyd Morse in 1959. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Skidmore DeGrassi; four grandchildren, Jan Elizabeth Norvelle, Dana Norvelle Bissonett, Thomas Norvelle, Jr., and Robin Laine DeGrassi; and her sister, Mary Ferrer. JOHN CHARLES NEIL - Left this life gracefully on November29, 1998, to be with his father, Bob Neil, who preceded him. John suffered froma sudden cerebral hemorrhage. He was attended at TMC by a multitude of family and friends and by the caring, sensitive staff. He was our hero, good friend, and he lifted us up; he was 'The Man.' He is survived by his adoring family: wife, Peggy; daughter, Teresa Nowak (Jim); son, John Jr; grandchildren, James and Ellie Nowak; mother, Lucy; and brothers, Jim (Jan) and Tom (Trudi). John was very close to his extended family, Rocky and Amy Chandler, Art and Barbara Wiles, John and Marilyn Wiles; and he was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. John was born on March 7, 1949 in Lockport, NY. Tucson has been his home since 1963. John graduated from Catalina H.S. in 1967, and the University of Arizona in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration. He was an accomplished trumpet player; in high school, he held a first chair, All-State position for four years, and won a music scholarship to the UofA, where he played in the Arizona Marching and Symphonic Bands. John was a banker for 30 years beginning with Southern Arizona Bank and later as an Executive Vice-President at Arizona Bank. John held graduate degrees in banking and had been a banking educator at Pima Community College and the American Institute of Banking. His community associations spanned his career with Board positions at YMCA and Palo Verde Mental Health Services, as well as involvement with many other organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club, Quarterback Club, VIP Breakfast Club, and Catalina Rotary. John was a great fan of UofA athletics. Those near him during games were aware of his huge enthusiasm. He was a patient coach to youth soccer, baseball and football teams for many years. John was a strong, natural athlete who loved to compete. He was talented in many sports. He loved a round of golf and was a former member of 49er's County Club and Ventana Canyon Country Club. John was a happy and good soul with a generous and outgoing nature. He had high standards in work and play and embraced the gifts of life. He loved deeply, readily, and never missed an opportunity to show us. Family traditions dear to John were Friday night parties and annual beach reunions. His family was the most important facet of his life and his high school sweetheart, Peggy, will profoundly miss him. They just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church United Methodist at 655 N. Craycroft Rd. on Saturday, December 5 at 2:00p.m. John was posthumously awarded an Honorary Membership in the UofA Letterwinners' Associations. With respect to John's sportsmanship, a scholarship for UofA walk-on athletes has been created by the Arizona Foundation in John's name.
