HUNT, Patricia K., born on May 13, 1949, passed away on December 13, 1998. Patty Hunt was called home to be with her Lord early Sunday morning after a long and painful illness, she is at peace. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Richard William Heronemus, Sr., Gladys Maxine Heronemus and sister, Mary Lynn Heronemus. She is survived by the love of her life and best friend, Randall Blohm; her two older brothers, Richard William Heronemus, Jr. (Lynn) and Stephen Kent Heronemus (Vivian). Her two loving daughters, Misty Marie Southard and Allison Sue Hunt; her grandchildren, Tabitha Lynn age nine, Sierra Summer age four, Brooke Carsen age two and Jacob Scott age two. Patty will remembered by many here in Tucson and also in Kokomo, Indiana where many of her family and friends still live. Patty moved to Tucson 20 years ago and during her eventful life she earned a Bachelors Degree in Education while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. She held a position with the U of A as in interpreter in American Sign Language. She was also an accomplished and joyful pianist and vocalist. She will be remembered for her never-ending generosity, kindness and compassion. She touched many, many, lives and all were made brighter by the light and love within her. Through years of constant pain her faith never wavered and we rest assured that she watches us from above and no longer feels her pain. As in life, she led the way for us; her life and her passing are an example to us all. Visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, Chapel Service at 6:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway Blvd., Tucson, AZ.

KOENIGSBERG, Leonore S., 74, of Oro Valley, AZ, died peacefully at home on December 13, 1998. Survived by her husband of 48 years, Marvin; daughter, Nancy of Albuquerque, NM, an attorney with the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty; son, David of Dobbs Ferry, NY, an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice; son, Andrew of Framingham, MA, software developer and geologist; sister, Helen Hirsh of Hoboken, NJ; and five grandchildren, Dana, Eric, Andrea, Sarah and Kevin. She received her BA from Hunter College and MA from Queens College. A lifelong educator, Lee was a well-respected elementary school teacher in the Locust Valley, NY school system for 26 years. She and Marvin made their home in East Norwich, NY, where they raised their children, prior to retiring to Arizona. Lee was very active in the Sun City community, where she chaired the Architectural Review Committee. In addition, she volunteered as a docent at Tohono Chul Park, and as an aid at Northwest Hospital. Lee also enjoyed many of the Tucson's cultural activities including the symphony, opera, theater, ballet and Museum of Art. A Memorial Service will be held at the Sun City Vistoso Social Hall, Navajo Rm. on Wednesday, December 16, 1998 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any worthy charity that promotes the education, health or well being of children in need.

MAHER, Francis G. 'Jerry' passed away on December 13, 1998, one day after his 91st birthday. Jerry was bon on December 12, 1907, in southwestern Pennsylvania. Following a 30 year career with U.S. Steel Corp., Jerry moved his family to Tucson in 1962. He was blessed by many good friendships in Tucson. Jerry was a life-long Elk. He was also a talented musician, who was lead singer and violinist with several groups during the 'Big Band' era. Later he enjoyed performing for his church, family and friends. In Tucson before his illness, he was a faithful member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Kelly Maher; and daughters, Rita Batley and Mary Lynn Rosser. He is survived by sons, Jerry (Susan) Maher of Uniontown, PA and Tim (Mary) Maher of Tucson, AZ; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Jim and Tom Maher and sisters, Ann Bierer and Genny Burd, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be private. The family suggests that remembrances be made to Casa de los Ninos Crisis Nursery, 1101 E. 4th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85705-7467, or the charity of your choice. PESQUEIRA, Eugenio A., 91, of Tucson, passed away December 12, 1998. Survived by daughters, Amelia (Tony), Alice (Gaspar), Evangeline (Joseph), Connie (Ron), Norma (Bill) and Gloria (Nicholas); sons, Eugene Mario (Virginia), Rudy (Ruth), Alfred (Alice) and Richard (Rita). Also survived by 44 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 1998 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (Center Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Thursday, December 17, 1998, 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at South Lawn Cemetery. Wesley A. Riba, 69, of Tucson, died December 13, 1998. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 38 years, Patricia; daughters, Julie of Iowa, Cynthia (Michael) Drake and Belinda (Owen) Pierce of Tucson; brothers, Erwin (Arlene) of Chelsea, MI and Willis of Tucson; sisters, Hildegard Steinbach and Melba (Jack) Howell of Tucson. He is also survived by grandsons, Aaron and Cody; granddaughters, Amanda, Sarah, Stephanie, Kylie, Katie, Courtney, Nicole and Ashley; and many nieces and nephews. Wesley has lived in Tucson since 1944. He graduated from Amphitheater High School and spent two years in the Navy. He also attended college in Thatcher and the University of Arizona. Wesley played bass with local musical groups and toured around the United States. He was a life member of the Tucson Federation of Musicians. He was a charter member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, attended Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church at the time of his death, and was active in both churches. We love and miss you, but are happy you'll be spending Christmas in Heaven. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16 at Evergreen Mortuary, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17 at Evergreen Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building funds at either Redeemer or Peace Lutheran Church.

SCHECHTER, Ileane, 66, died December 13, 1998. Devoted wife of Alvin Schechter; beloved mother to Sheryl Marcus (Richard) and Randy Schechter; adoring grandmother to Adam and Brandon Marcus. Also survived by sister Anne Lewis. Mrs. Schechter was employed for 16 years in retail beginning with Levy's through to Robinson's May. SUAREZ, OLIVIA CASTEL DE ORO, 67, of Tucson passed on December 11, 1998 is gone from us but has joined her husband, Jesus 'Chapo' Suarez, who passed away on September 7, 1992 and also grandson, Mark Castel Del Oro on November 20, 1998. Beloved mother of Larry (Camille), Jim (Elma), Georgina, Andy (Lita); grandchildren, Stephanie, Jesus 'Sonny', Melissa, Phillip, Amanda, Jimmy, Tomas, Jesusito, Andy Jr., Christina, Ruben, Luis, Raymundo, Alyssa, Rene; great-grandchildren, Micaela, Zachary and Jordan Ariza; sister, Mary (Juan) Encinas; brothers, Norbert (Delia), and Frank (Evelyn) Castel Del Oro; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. VALENT, Anna E., 84, of Tucson, died December 12, 1998. Born November 23, 1914 in Chicago, IL, she was a former resident of the Manor at Midvale. Survived by sons, Philip J. (Donna) Valent of Slidell, LA, Richard R. (Jeann) Valent of Tucson; daughter, Sharon A. (Richard) Krzemien of Concord, CA; sister, Amy (John) Nemec of Stickney, IL; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd. Interment will be in Hillside, IL. CAMP, Sam L., born September 17, 1941, passed away December 12, 1998. Remaining family members are brother, George Camp and his wife, Sandra Camp. Funeral will be held in Live Oak, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association.

JOHN CHAKMAKIAN, 90, died December 14, 1998 of natural causes. Born May 9, 1908 in Kayseri, Turkey and emigrated to this country in 1920, where he originally lived in Philadelphia, PA and for many years in Tucson. He worked hard from an early age in many jobs including auto mechanics and dry cleaning. On January 3, 1933 he married his sweetheart, Louise, now deceased. John loved life, playing cards and backgammon, traveling, and his many friends. But, he especially loved his family, daughter, Jane of Philadelphia; son, David (Marty) of Tucson and his grandchildren, Greg, Ken (Karen), Karen (Chris), and Steve. John will be missed by all who knew and loved his joy in life, his quick wit and entertaining stories. Memorial Service 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. DAVIS, Eva Mae, 83, died December 13, 1998. Sister of Louis M. Mortimer, Jr.; aunt of Bruce (Linda) Mortimer of Bakersfield, CA; two great nieces and other family and friends survive. Nellie Wilson DeMeritt, Nellie Wilson DeMeritt, 80, passed away at her home on December 13, 1998. Nellie was born in Farmington, Arkansas June 16, 1918 to John Oliver and Nannie Wilson. Nellie graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1938. Upon leaving Casa Grande she moved to California and worked with Civil Service and retired in 1971 as a Computer Supervisor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dell DeMeritt. She is also survived by a stepson, James Trent; two sisters, Lavinia Randall, Tucson, and Christine (Al) Burton of Casa Grande, AZ. She has lived in Tucson with her niece, Judy Mellor for the past 12 years. She has many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Episcopal Church of St. Matthew's and the Humane Society. Memorial Services will be on Saturday, December 19, 1998 at the Episcopal Church of St. Matthew's at 10:00 a.m., 9071 E. Old Spanish Trail, Tucson, AZ 85710, Tel.# 298-9782.

Doris M. Watson Drew, 78, went to be with the Lord after suffering a heart attack on Saturday, December 12, 1998. She is survived by her loving children; Rick (Trish) Patecell of Temecula, CA, Pamela (Daryl) O'Neil of Prescott, AZ, Shirley Taylor of Tucson, Patti (Dave) Maurer of Overgaard, AZ, Julie (John) Noon of Tucson, Cindy (Philip) Sallee of Tucson; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Robert and Richard Watson and Marjorie Johnson of Michigan, Constance Bolske of Washington, and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Chester A. Watson in 1928, and her Mother, Constance King Watson in 1959. Her husband, Harold G. Drew, also precedes her in death in 1982. She was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on August 28, 1920. She served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in the 1940's and relocated to Tucson in 1945. She worked at Tucson Newspaper in the late 40's. She married Crawford E. Patecell in 1948 and together they owned/operated The Sewing Machine Sales Company on Speedway Blvd. by the U/A in the 50's. She was an incredible seamstress, making clothes for customers as well as her children. She met and married Harold Drew in 1962 while working at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a switchboard operator at St. Mary's Hospital for 26 years and retired in 1986. The family greatly appreciates the loving care our Mother received from Elsa, Map and Berta. Graveside services to celebrate our Mother's life will be open to all who knew her on Monday, December 21, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. at Eastlawn Cemetery. Rev. Wm. S. Womersley officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary's Hospital in Doris Drew's name.

HORTON, Georgiana Vea, died peacefully on December 8, 1998, in Tucson, Arizona. She will be deeply missed by her children, Bill Horton of Wilder, KY, and Liz Horton of New York, NY; by her six grandchildren and their families; and by friends, bridge players, golfers, and five o'clock martini drinkers from Wisconsin to Arizona. Donations in her memory may be made to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum at 2021 N. Kinney Road, Tucson, AZ 85743.

LAWS, Sue Ellen, 65, of Tucson, died December 15, 1998. Survived by daughters, Carol Regan of MD and Peggy (Keith) Duffner of NV; grandchildren, Kayla and Kyle; brothers, Tom Pat Swafford of OK and Jerome Frazier of GA. Preceded in death by a brother, James Simeon Frazier. Funeral Service will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 18 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Local arrangements by East Lawn Palms Mortuary, an Aftercare Provider. Graveside Service and interment will be in Spiro, OK on December 21. LONNIE WILSON, SR., 86, a long time resident of Tucson, passed away at T.M.C. December 8, 1998. Born in Peno, OK., December 14, 1911. He moved to Tucson from OK., with his family in 1953. He is survived by his wife, Marie; son, Lonnie Jr. of Oracle, AZ; daughter, Zelma Richardson of Tucson; daughter, Panola Sabo of Austin, TX; son, Jack of Tucson; and son, David, deceased; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He served in the Navy Sea-Bees in 1943 and was a member of the D.A.V. and the Masonic Lodge in Oklahoma. He will be missed.

MACK, Thomas L., 89, died December 15, 1998. Survived by children, Christine (Mark) Loftus, Joan Marie Mack, Mary Marcia (Bob) Good, Jeanne (Bill) Patterson, Thomas L. (Joy) Mack, Jr.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 18 at East Lawn Palms Mortuary Chapel, 5801 E. Grant Rd.

McGUIRE, SR., James Daniel, 90, born January 17, 1908 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died on Sunday, December 13th, 1998 at the Veterans Hospital. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Alice. As an infant, he moved to Douglas, Arizona, graduated high school, attended U of A and was commissioned through ROTC in 1939. After his discharge in 1945 he started working for Caterpillar Tractor until 1969. He then moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. to become part owner of a heating and air conditioning business until his retirement in 1979 and then moved back to Tucson. Survived by daughter, Janine Todd of CA and son, James D.McGuire, Jr. of Tucson; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and one sister, Mary Ryan of CA also survive. Donations in James' memory may be made to The Women's Veterans Auxiliary at the Veterans Administration Hospital, 3601 S. 6th Ave., T/A 85713. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

Lawrence Olaf Nelson, 72, of Tucson, died of congestive heart failure December 13, 1998. He was born in Hartford, CT on February 1, 1926. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Kathleen, and sons, Adam Foster Nelson, and Scott Laurence (Donna) Nelson and grandson, Cameron Laurence Nelson, all of Tucson, AZ. They remember Larry as a thoughtful, caring husband and awesome father, and grandfather (Papa). He leaves a sister, Beatrice Nelson Peterson, Newington, CT and eight nephews, eight nieces and numerous grand nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Olaf and Gerda Amelia Elizabeth Nelson, and sister, Dorothy Nelson Wood.
In 1993 he retired as professor emeritus from the University of Arizona where he was dean of continuing education and professor of higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Connecticut State College, a master's degree from the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D from Michigan State University. During his career he was a highly respected member on the faculties at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ; Purdue University, W. Lafayette, IN; State College, Moorhead, MN; and the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. At these institutions he served in a variety of positions that included professor of higher education, associate and administrative dean, and assistant to the president. In 1979 Larry was mentor and assistant to the president of Meiji University in Tokyo, Japan.
In Indiana he was a member of the panel for the Higher Education Telecommunications System, of the advisory board for the Midwestern Center of the National Humanities Series, and of the Commission for Humanities. In Arizona, Larry served as a director of Continuing Education of the Deaf, and the Consortium for Education in Social Services. He was active in the American Association of Higher Education, the National University Extension Association, the Tucson Commission on Foreign Relations, Delta Chi social fraternity and Phi Delta Kappa and Epsilon Pi Tau honoraries. He served as president of the Rotary Club of Tucson (1980-81) and president of the Greater Lafayette (IN) Kiwanis Club (1967). Larry is listed in both Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World . In 1983 he and his family started the successful enterprise, Avenues to Travel, in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations tothe Paul Harris International Fellowship Foundation. Donations are to be sent to the Rotary Club of Tucson, 2014 E. Broadway, Tucson, AZ 85719.
Visitation is scheduled Friday, December 18, between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. and services will be held Saturday, December 19 at 10:00 a.m., both at the Adair Funeral Home, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee.
