RUBEN R. RHODES, 70, of Tucson, died 12/13/98. Survived by sister Berta Williams, many nieces and nephews, Morenci Williams-Rhodes, Daniel Rhodes and family; Steve, Howard, Rick and Mark Rhodes; Morenci and Erik Wodraska; Stephanie, Oscar Olmedo and son; and many other family and friends. Preceded in death by parents, William and Rosa Rhodes, four brothers, and great nephew, Max Williams. Ruben was a deeply kind person with a heart full of generosity, fairness and love. He took joy in coaching, telling stories and helping countless others. All he touched shall remember his gift of compassion always. Viewing and prayer service, Wednesday 12/16, 6:30-9:00 PM, Arizona Mortuary; Mass at St. Cyrils, Thursday 12/17, 11 AM. Burial immediately following at Holy Hope Cemetery. SEE, William T., Lt. Col. U.S.A. Ret., 90, died December 14, 1998. Husband of Charlotte A. See; father of William T. See, Jr., Lucille R. Walker, Charlotte Ann (Walker) Miller, Charles L. (Patricia) See, Barbara A. Wilson and Kenneth A. See. 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral Service 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 18, 1998 at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, with Fr. Keith Kreitner officiating. Burial in TMP East Lawn with Military Honors by Ft. Huachuca Honor Guard. Lt. Col. See was a WWII veteran in the European Theatre. Served in Japan, Austria and Taiwan. Retired to Tucson in 1960. Frequent traveler with his wife, Charlotte, to Alaska and other parts of the world. SMYTH, Phyllis K. 75, of Tucson, formerly of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed peacefully into the Lord's care on December 14, 1998. Born September 23, 1923. Wife of Robert M. Smyth. Also survived by children, Susan Krumm, Dianne Rasmussen (Gary), Kevin Smyth, Barbara Blum (Terry); eight grandchildren; dear sister, Helen Pelton and many close friends and relatives. Memorial Service 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 18, 1998 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

STILES, Ann Claypool of Tucson, died December 14, 1998. Survived by husband, Jacques; daughters, Dale C. Jerome, Barbara C. Loken, and Caroline C. Morgan; four grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters. Ann was born January 23, 1918 in Duluth, MN,

ALVAREZ, Antonio A., 62, of Tucson, passed away December 15, 1998. Survived by daughter, Brenda A. Alvarez; brothers, Jose Juan, Manny (Eloise) and Ysidoro (Beatriz) Alvarez; sister-in-law, Dora Alvarez; grandchildren, Bobby, Brianna, and Martin. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18, 1998 from 4:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Saturday, December 19, 1998, 9:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S.6th Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Doris M. Watson Drew, 78, went to be with the Lord after suffering a heart attack on Saturday, December 12, 1998. She is survived by her loving children; Rick (Trish) Patecell of Temecula, CA, Pamela (Daryl) O'Neil of Prescott, AZ, Shirley Taylor of Tucson, Patti (Dave) Maurer of Overgaard, AZ, Julie (John) Noon of Tucson, Cindy (Philip) Sallee of Tucson; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Robert and Richard Watson and Marjorie Johnson of Michigan, Constance Bolske of Washington, and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Chester A. Watsonin 1928, and her Mother, Constance King Watson in 1959. Her husband, Harold G. Drew, also precedes her in death in 1982. She was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on August 28, 1920. She served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in the 1940's and relocated to Tucson in 1945. She worked at Tucson Newspaper in the late 40's. She had done extensive modeling in Tucson in the 40s. She married Crawford E. Patecell in 1948 and together they owned/operated The Sewing Machine Sales Company on Speedway Blvd. by the U/A in the 50's. She was an incredible seamstress, making clothes for customers as well as her children. She met and married Harold Drew in 1962 while working at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a switchboard operator at St. Mary's Hospital for 26 years and retired in 1986. The family greatly appreciates the loving care our Mother received from Elsa, Map and Berta. Graveside services to celebrate our Mother's life will be open to all who knew her on Monday, December 21, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. at Eastlawn Cemetery. Rev. Wm. S. Womersley officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary's Hospital in Doris Drew's name.

ECKERSON, Robert W., 80, of Tucson, died December 15, 1998. A retired General Electric employee, he moved to Tucson in 1996 following many winter stays. Survived by daughters, Mary Lou Eckerson of Tucson and Diana Lynn (Thomas) Clarke of Durhamville, NY; and grandchildren, Sean M., Ashley L. and Tracy L. Clarke all of NY. Memorial Services Saturday 1:00 p.m., Casas Adobes Congregational Church with burial to follow at a later date at Cobleskill, NY. Arrangements by Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery.

MARY ORTEGA GABUSI, 89, passed away surrounded by love, on the afternoon of December 15, 1998. Originally from Santa Cruz, Mexico she spent most of her married life in Clifton, AZ and the last 25 years in Tucson. When Mary was a young child, her family fled the forces of the Mexican Revolution in the dark of night with only the clothes on their backs, and crossed into the safety of the United States. Their family prospered in Florence, AZ and grew to 11 children. She is survived by three siblings: Umberto and Theresa of Florence and Carolina of Oracle, who remember Mary as a wonderful and loving older sister.Always known as a hard working, loving and generous person, she spent most of her adult life giving of herself as a mother, grandmother and nurse, having graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing and later practicing in Clifton-Morenci area. Mary was the beloved wife of Frank Gabusi, owner of Risdon Photography Studio in Clifton, who died in 1970. There they raised five children who were all encouraged to move on to higher education and professional lives. Mary is survived by all her children: Frank Jr. (Amalia) of Yuma, Christina Angle of Denver, John Gabusi (Linda) of Tucson, Rebecca Limas (Anthony) of Yuma, and Martha Taylor (Abbott) of Tucson. To her ten grandchildren, Frank, Andrea, Mario, Gabriel, Micaela, Angela, Monica, Eva, Matthew and Elise and to many of their friends who knew Mary, she was affectionately known as Nana or Abuela, a treasure of kindness and warmth. To the rest of the world she was generous and selfless, contributing more than she could afford to more charities than can be named here. A lifelong Democrat, she always had compassion for those less fortunate. An active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Clifton, and St. Cyril's Parish in Tucson, she will missed by hundreds who knew her and hundreds more that were touched by her heart. The depth and goodness of her spirit was clear and visible as she passed peacefully into the hands of God, surrounded by the tears, love and memories of the lives she touched and left behind. She will be greatly missed and remembered with love. Rosary and visitation will be held at St. Cyril's Church at 4725 E. Pima at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 18th, and a funeral mass will be said on Saturday, December 19th at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. FREDERICK SASSE, 96, long time Tucson resident, died peacefully at T.M.C. Hospice on December 14, 1998, surrounded by his family. Mr.Sasse was born in Bremen, Germany in 1902. He trained in banking and sailed as purser on the North German Lloyd Shipping line. In 1926, he came to Chicago where he began his career in merchandising selling Oriental rugs at Marshall Field's and Co. He later worked for Block and Kuhl Department Stores in Peoria, Ill., where he married Mary Pattison in 1942. Mr. Sasse served in the US Army during World War II in the Medical Corps. In 1955 the Sasse's came to Tucson where Fred became manager of Steinfeld's downtown store. He was exceptional working with personnel and finance. He also managed Meyerson's Department Store in Wilmot Plaza and Steinfeld's in the El Con Mall. He loved his work and his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; and his three daughters, Margo Sasse of Modesto, CA, Susan (Rolf) Metz of Hemet, CA, Mitzi Sasse of Breckenridge, CO; and granddaughter, Laura Metz. His Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 1998 at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4400 N. Campbell Ave., with Rev. John Hooker officiating. WHITE, Wayne Allen 'Whimpy' 60, died December 15, 1998. Husband of Connie White; father of Nevelyn (Wade) Robertson, Yvonne (Mark) Pierce, Lance White, Nathan (Sandy) White, Russell (Michelle) White, Patrick and Wayne White, Jr.; stepfather of Ryan (Melissa) Manchenton, Marcia and Adam Manchenton, Darcy and Doreena Harmon; brother of Wanda Jo Shumway and Edna Oliver; 17 grandchildren also survive. Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Lenora, and daughter, Sherry Lynn. Funeral service 11:00 a.m.Saturday, December 19, at L.D.S. Church, Marana Ward, 13450 N. Lon Adams Road. BAKER, Frances May, 81, of Tucson, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday, December 16, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude. Frances is survived by her daughter, Claudia (Richard) Schultze of Kansas; son, Chester Baker of Tucson; sister, Thelma Fucgatt; brother, William White; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Frances was a charter member of Alive Christian Fellowship Church. Funeral Services 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 1998 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Avenue with Pastor Jeff Love officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Catalina Care Center, 4611 N. RICHARD KELLER CUNNINGHAM, JR., 25, died, December 4, 1998 in Arlington, TX. Rick was born August 14, 1973 in San Jose, CA. He lived in Tucson for 23 years. He attended Henry Elementary, Gridley Middle School, and Sahuaro and Palo Verde High Schools; he worked as a mechanic and machinist. Survived by his mother, Nancy L. Cunningham, Tucson; father, Richard K. Cunningham, Arlington, TX; brother Shawn (Sandra) Cunningham, Chandler, AZ; sister, Stacie Cunningham, Chandler, AZ; grandmother, Lee Tweedy, Tucson; grandfather, Frederick Cunningham, Jr., Wilmington, N.C.; many aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, in Arizona, Texas, and California. Funeral services were held on December 9, in Fort Worth, Texas. A memorial service will be held at the Tucson Baptist Temple, 1525 S. Columbus Blvd., Saturday, December 19, 1998, 3:00 p.m. No flowers please.

Beverly Ann Corrine Drickey - Passed away on December 16, 1998 at age 70. Born July 29, 1928 in Fitchburg, MA. She is survived by her husband, Jack Drickey. She was blessed with 11 children, 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Beverly was a retired nurse, active in the community. She served three years as a director of the Tucson Women's Bowling Association and was also a director ofthe Tucson Bowlerettes. Her greatest joy was meeting and helping others around the world. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at BRING'S on Broadway. HAZARD, Elizabeth Tillinghast, 84, of Tucson, died December 11, 1998 at a local nursing home. She is survived by her daughters, Linda B. Slaven of Blue Hill, ME, Suzanne B. Elsasser of Olathe, KS and four grandchildren. Fondly remembered as 'Tillie', she had been a resident of Tucson since 1961. Born in Paris, France, she lived in Rhode Island Prior to moving West. She graduated from The Wheeler School in Providence, attended Wellesly College and was always involved in a variety of social and church related activities. She was predeceased by her first husband, Roswell P. Bickford and her second husband, William P. Hazard, both also of Tucson. Tillie was for many years employed as a buyer for a local retailer, specializing in women's southwestern fashions and was well known for her love of Native-American arts and crafts. She was active in functions of her church, Grace St. Paul's Episcopal, where parishioners and her many friends fondly recall her soaring spirit, love and warmth. Her funeral service will be held at Grace St. Paul's, Saturday, December 19, 1998 at 11:30 a.m. Donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association in her name. KOSLOFF, Irving, 78, of Tucson, died December 15, 1998. He is survived by his nephew, Stephen Kasloff of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Judy (Leo) Nothmann of FL; extended family, Harlene Buchella, Jeff Buchella, Diane (Bobby) Rich, Tina Buchella all of Tucson and Julie Van Dran of NM. Mr. Kasloff had for a long time been very active in the Big Brother-Big Sister mentoring program. Friends will remember that he managed downtown parking lots and later enjoyed being involved with swap meets both in Tucson and in Pinetop in the White Mountains. Services are to be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made made in the name of Irving Kasloff to the Big Brother-Big Sister Youth Center, 160 E. Alameda St., Tucson, AZ 85701. MITCHELL, Marie, 85, passed away on December 15, 1998. She will be deeply missed by her children, Jeanne of Tucson and Bill of San Antonio, TX; by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. HUGH B. MONTAGUE, 64, a Deacon at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, went to be with the Lord on December 16, 1998. Born in Denver, CO. on March 23, 1934. He was a retired aeronautical engineer who was employed by Northrup/ Grumman on Long Island for 25 years. One of the projects he worked on was the Lem Module. An avid bridge player, holding over 5, 000 Master Points, which he had won at National, as well as Regional events throughout the United States. This was quite an accomplishment, as he was a heart transplant recipient in 1989 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Andrea Kidd (Tom), Harlan (Kathy), Erica Entler (ken), Aaron, Sean (Kim) and stepdaughter, Sandra Claus; grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca and Ian. I say to Hugh 'Well done good and faithful servant.' Mass will be offered 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19 at St. Francis De Sales, Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19 at the church. Contributions in Deacon Montague's memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 2121 E. TONY 'SHORTY' PALLANES, 55, of Sahuarita, passed away December 09, 1998. Tony lost his courageous battle with cancer. He has gone to join his father, Blas and sister, Carmen Green. Survived by mother, Gertrude Z. Pallanes; sisters, Sally (Roger) Hoogerwerf, Sara Tellez, Linda (Daniel) Aguilar of California, Helen Hansen and Carol Ashton; brothers, Pete (Shirley), Art (Mary), Eddie (Sharon), Louie (Connie), and Danny (Audra) of Idaho; aunt, Isabel Castanon of California. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 1998 at San Martin de Porres Mission, 15440 Santa Rita Road, Sahuarita, AZ, with a Rosary recited at 9:00 a.m. Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. also at San Martin de Porres. RADER, Randall G., 46 years old, died December 17, 1998 in Tucson. Born on January 31, 1952 in Tucson, AZ. HERMAN RAMBEAU - Died December 11, 1998. Moved to Tucson from York, Pennsylvania 25 years ago. Born July 18, 1909 in Columbus, Ohio. Survived by wife Mary; daughter Nancy Cash of Erie, Pennsylvania; sons Peter of Dallas, Texas, William (Jeannie) of Tucson, Patrick (Carol) of Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania; Thomas (Nikki) of York, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son Michael of York, Pennsylvania.Retired superintendent Superior Paper Products, Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania 1973. Memorial services will be held at St. James United Methodist Church, 3255 N. Campbell, Tucson, December 27, at 3:00 p.m. Cremains will be sent to Prospect Hill, North York, Pennsylvania.

RHOADES, Lillian F., born December 10, 1919 in Albany, New York, died peacefully December 15, 1998. She moved to Tucson from New Jersey in 1960. Survived by daughter, Anne Jackson (Keith) of Tucson; son, William Kiernan of California; brother, James Rice (Helen) of Florida; grandsons, Tim of Tucson, Joshua of Washington; nephews, David of Florida, Douglas of Ohio. Also survived by special caregivers Enza, Mary and Denise who took care of all her needs so lovingly. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alzheimer's Association, 5132 E. Pima, Tucson 85712. A gathering of family and friends is planned at her daughters home, Saturday, December 19, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., 4511 S. White Pine Drive.

SHERMAN, Donald P. (Pat), died November 24, 1998 in Riverside, CA, of complications of cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Veronica Sherman; brother, John Sherman; sister, Marian Flanigan. Pat is survived by his brothers and sisters, Peggy (George) Brady of Green Valley, Bill (Joan) of Fresno, CA, Mike (Madeline) of Huntington Beach, CA, Jim (Lu) of Tucson, Barbara (Don) Pon of Sunnyvale, CA, and Kathleen (Don) McLennan of Cave Junction, Or. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Services and burial took place in California on November 28, 1998. His death is an indescribable loss to us all.
