JENSEN, Donald, 75, died January 5, 1999 in Tucson. Survived by his wife, Luella Rowe-Jensen; one son, Daniel Jensen; two daughters, Cyndee Smith, Colleen Jensen; one sister, Wilda Osen; four brothers, Gene Jensen, Daniel Jensen, West Jensen, Jack Jensen and four grandchildren. Donald Jensen attended school in Grenora, North Dakota and the Broadway College of Structural Engineering in Seattle, Washington. He was in the U.S. Marine Corp for 2 1/2 years, served in WWII South Pacific Theater Combat He was employed as a superintendent for Bechtal Corp. and Otis Elevator of Calif. for 38 years. He was a member of the San Francisco International Assoc. of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers. He received highly distinguished Bowman Award with the California Bowman Hunters, Golf Marshal for U.S. Open for four years in Tucson, NFL Alumni Celebrity Golf Classic in 1993 and 1994, the Northern Telcom Open 1994-1995, Nortel Open 1996 and Tucson Chrysler Golf Tournament 1997-1998. KAUERTZ, Doreitha Jane, was born August 13, 1920. She was called home January 3, 1999. She was the oldest of four girls. April 21, 1938 she married Herbert Kauertz. Doreitha lived in the Flint, Michigan area for 53 years. In 1973 they moved to Tucson, Arizona to live out their lives. Doreitha was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The memorial service will be held at LDS Church on N. Snyder and Harrison Rd. in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, January 9, 1999 at 11:30 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Mary Didham and Betty Lobb. Survived by daughter, Denise and husband, Gary Stevens; sister, Jean Dvaitt; brother-in-laws, John Didham and Don Lobb; three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many friends and loved ones. KEMP, Gordon R., 77, died peacefully at home on January 4, 1999. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Geraldine; sons, David (Patsi) and Gregory (Terry); grandchildren, Michelle, Paul, Brian, Becky and Evan; great-grandson, Ivan; sister, Dorothy (John) Denhof; and brother, William. Mr. Kemp was born September 22, 1921 in Stambaugh, MI and lived there 30 years before moving first to Carlsbad, NM, and then to Tucson in 1960. He worked for Duval Corp. for 34 years before retiring as Manager of Materials. He was an award-winning master woodcarver and painter whose love ofnature inspired magnificent works of art. SWAIN, Jeanne M., loving mother, daughter and grandmother, age 71, passed away January 4, 1999 in Tucson, AZ after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 19, 1927 in Green Camp, Ohio, she moved to Albuquerque in 1961. She loved the land of enchantment. In the 60's, she was active in local theatre including the Carrales Adobe Theatre and Albuquerque Little Theatre. She was a pioneer in the film industry in New Mexico, becoming the first Screen Actors Guild-Franchised Agent in the state. Her compassion for actors and love of the arts were an inspiration to many people. She had served as Public Relations Director at the University of Albuquerque and as Film Commissioner for the city of Albuquerque. After retirement she divided her time between Albuquerque and Tucson and dedicated herself to Genealogy, writing, and world travel. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Orie J. Mossbarger, and her stepfather, Howard C. Rathburn. She is survived by her son, Alan D. Swain IV, of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Sandra J.Rodriguez; son-in-law, Michael and granddaughter, Eva of Westminster, CO; and mother, Grace E. Rathburn of Tucson, AZ. Mickey H. Vest - Was called from this life on January 2nd, 1999, he was born on October 21st, 1955 to Gene A. and June M. (Collins) Vest. He married Lisa M. Ulmer on August 29th, 1981 in Harvard, IL. Angie Carolyn Humphreys - Died in an accidental fire on New Year's Day, January 1, 1999. Angie was born in Lima, Peru on January 28, 1957 and spent her earliest childhood years in Memphis, TN and at her family's retreat, Casa de la Bomba in Gringo Gulch, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where she attended, and occasionally cut, nursery school. She had lived in the Tucson area since 1964 where she attended Sam Hughes Elementary, Mansfeld Junior High and graduated from Tucson High School where she was a member of the tennis team. Having since earned her travel school degree and her real estate license, she was currently pursuing a degree in hotel management through Northern Arizona University's courses offered at Pima Community College. Angie had been in the food service/hospitality industry for over 20 years at several prominent Tucson restaurants and resorts. Her family had owned the Ponderosa Lodge on Mt. Lemmon and she started her career under the tutelage of Carlotta Flores at the historic El Charro in downtown Tucson. She had owned and operated her own catering business for several years called The Company Company. Angie loved cooking, movies, tennis, fishing, skiing and had spent a recent summer in Alaska where she learned to ice climb. Angie had just returned from a European excursion to Italy and Spain and then visited family in France. The trip was so special for her that the family has decided to scatter her ashes at Mont Saint Michel. Angie's father was Hugh Humphreys II of Memphis, TN where she had lots of family including Donna, Will, Flournoy, Kay and John Humphreys. Her maternal uncle was Tony Woodson of San Francisco and his children are her first cousins. She is survived by her mother, Patti Borden; brother, Hugh Humphreys (both of Tucson); brother, Thorne Edward Pierce (Catherine) of Paris, France; and four nieces and nephews. In lieu of a memorial service the family requests that you celebrate Angie's life by making a donation to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., 85716, from which she had adopted her precious canine companion, Eva, and try to approach life's difficulties with even a smidgen of the humor that Angie did. McCHESNEY, E. Pauline, born in London, England April 21, 1902, died in Tucson, December 25, 1998. Pauline came to the U.S. in 1925 and was naturalized in 1931. She worked as an assistant to photographer Margaret Bourke-White in NY. married to Frank W. McChesney in 1947 and moved to Tucson. Pauline was a member of The English Speaking Union, and St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, and a board member of The Old Adobe Riding School. She also participated in the world work of Moral Rearmament. Pauline was lovingly cared for by Carmen R. and Margo S. in her later later years and was blessed with the friendships of several wonderful people. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Philip's Monday, January 11th at 2:00 p.m.
Deborah Maurer Palmer, 45, of Tucson, died on December 16, 1998 following a lengthy illness. She was wife of Ricky D. Palmer of Tucson. As newlyweds the couple arrived in Tucson from Pennsylvania in 1972 and made Arizona there home. They would have been married 27 years on December 26. She was the daughter of Edward G. Maurer of Ephrata, PA and Phyllis McMonigal of Lancaster, PA. Debbie, as she preferred to be called, worked in Secretarial and Clerical positions with the City of Tucson Council and Clerks offices from 1974 until 1985. She remained active in politics until the progression of her illness made it no longer possible. She always had a great love for people, animals and nature and the lives she touched are beyond numeration. If there never was a heaven there is now; if ever there was a heaven she is at a higher place. Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are a stepfather, Robert McMonigal, Lancaster, PA; a stepmother, Shirley Maurer, Ephrata, PA; a brother, Thomas, Ephrata; a sister, Barbra Martin, Downingtown, PA; half-brother, Robert McMonigal, Jr., USN, Jacksonville, Fla; and a maternal grandmother, Bernedette Flawd, Lancaster. A private memorial service was held by the family in Lancaster, PA on December 21.
Ashley Allgood Purse - Died January 3, 1999. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 19, 1919. He attended The University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee. He served in the Airforce and was discharged as a captain in 1945. Purse moved to Tucson in 1957 where he went to work for the Southern Arizona Bank. His extensive work in the banking business included positions as president of Great Western Bank and Trust Co., president of The Bank of Tucson, and executive vice president of Security Savings and Loan.After leaving the banking business he served as general manager of the Arizona Inn and worked for Kingston and Associates an executive search firm. Long active in community affairs he served on the board of directors of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson Medical Center, YMCA, the Arizona Training Center for the Handicapped and Greenfields County Day School. He is survived by his children, Ruth Martin, Willcox, AZ, Mary Short Sturgis, SD, Ashley Purse, Jr., Donald Purse and five grandchildren. ROBLES, Alice C., 77, native of Tucson, died January 7, 1999. Preceded in death by husband, Rudy and daughter, Olga Celaya. She is survived by brother, Edmundo Campillo; daughters, Czarina (Richard) Sonesen and Elsa Fimbres; two granddaughters, Ana Alisa and Angela Fimbres; two grandsons, Roy and Rudy Celaya; loving sister-in-law, Leticia R. Pemberton; brother-in-law, Ralph G. Robles; son-in-law, Rogelio Celaya and several nieces and nephews.Alice attended Drachman and Safford Elementary Schools, Safford Jr. High and was a 1939 Tucson High graduate. While residing in Tucson she was employed at Jacome's Department Store. While living in Ajo, she attended Phoenix College and completed studies in floral design. Jane Heflin Schiltz - Born January 28, 1912, died January 7, 1999 at the age of 86. She is the daughter of William Howard Heflin and Edna Pearl Guiver. A beautiful caring, accepting, determined woman with a fun sense of humor, she is survived by her sister, Frances Boekweg Pullum, and her children, Frank (Waleska) McDonough, Joanie (Tony) Carvajal, Stephen (Melissa) Schiltz, Mary (Gary) Abrahams, Susan (Jack) Gemmer, Al (Jane Ann) Benki and 20 grandchildren.
Jane graduated Valedictorian of Sacred Heart Academy (high school) in Ogden, and went on to receive a B.S. Degree from St. Mary's of the Wasatch College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She taught Junior high English/Latin/Drama classes in both Ogden, Utah and Des Moines, Iowa. Jane was an active volunteer in both community and church activities. She was a social service interviewer for Elizabeth of Hungry Clinic; Eucharistic minister to the University Medical Center; prepared lunches for Casa Maria Soup Kitchen, etc.
Jane survived two husbands: Frank W. McDonough, Editor of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine in Des Moines, and John Michael Schiltz, Chief Financial Officer of Catholic Community Services in the Diocese of Tucson. She was an active supporter of both husbands and their professions. Jane was an avid reader, golf and bridge player, enjoyed theater and parties with friends and family, cooking, gardening and decorating, traveling and especially, visiting children and grandchildren.

Silas 'Gene' Stoddard, 74, a resident of Tucson, died January 6, 1999. Brian Clifton - Age 36, born June 14, 1962 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lived in Tucson since 1974.
Loving husband of Lisa and father of Matthew. Beloved son of Rodger and Jeanette Clifton. Brother of Patrick (Chris), Michael (Ana), Matthew (Kim). Cherished uncle of Brittany, Sean, Adam, Caitlin, Kelly, Ian, Melisa & Mikey Clifton, and Jacque & Robin Arana. Devoted nephew of Mary Anne Clifton, Art & Karen Clifton and many more. Brian graduated from Amphitheater H.S. in 1980. He served three years in the U.S. Army and was stationed for two years in Germany. After several years as Vice President of Clifton Management Co., Brian went on to work in the Health Care field where he loved caring for many people. He was an avid, talented photographer who captured much of the beauty of this earth. Brian will be in all our hearts forever.
