BLAKELY, M. Vincent, 83, died January 13, 1999. Funeral Service 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 1999 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

CRESWELL, Genevieve B., 88, of Sun City, died January 12, 1999. She was born in Italy, moved to Arizona in 1941 from Gallup, New Mexico and was a Tucson resident from 1941 to 1987. She was a member of Grace St. Paul Episcopal Church, O.E.S. and Oriental Shrine. Survivors include daughters Genevieve C. Creswell-Snyder of Sun City and Cora C. Seginsky of Phoenix; son, Howard K. Creswell, Jr. of Tucson; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and sister, Lucille B. Poluseo of New York. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, Grace St. Paul Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St., Tucson. Memorial contributions may be made to Sun Health Hospice, 12740 N. ELDER, Nancy R., departed this life to be with our Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 7, 1999. She was born May 8, 1943 to Clarence and Viola Jacobs. Her parents preceded her in death, as well as a daughter-in-law Karyn Elder. Survived by her husband of 33 years, Dean; two sons, Timothy (Brenda) and Thomas; a sister, Joan Berg of Winnipeg, Ontario and two grandchildren, Joshua and Brittney. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 16, 10:00 a.m., at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fountain of Life Lutheran School.

JENSEN, Chester Hobart, Chief Warrant Officer, US Army, Retired, age 80, died January 14, 1999. Resident of Tucson since his retirement from the Army in 1961. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Marian Smith Jensen of Tucson; sisters, Carolyn (Mrs. Paul) Smith and Martha (Mrs. Chelton) Boyd of Tucson; brother, J. Leonard Jensen of Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Jensen was a life member of Oasis Lodge No. 52, F & AM, Tucson, and also a life member of Camp Knox Lodge No. 919, Radcliffe, Kentucky; the Scottish and York Rite in Tucson, and a charter and life member of Sabbar Shrine Temple, Tucson. He was also a life member of the Retired Officers Association, the Military Order of the World Wars, and the National Sojourners. Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Sabbar Temple, 450 South Tucson Boulevard, Tucson, 85715 or the Memorial Fund of Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church, 5360 East Pima, Tucson, 85712. LA ROCK, Kenneth, 77 years, passed away December 28, 1998 in La Habra, California. He was a former Tucson resident and an engineer at Hughes Aircraft. Surviving are his wife, Lael; son, Dale of Anaheim and two granddaughters, Christine and Laura; son, Greg of Kansas City; a sister, Katherine of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Memorial Services were in Neil's Chapel, Brea, California.

McKIBBIN, Clarence Perkins 'Pap', 95, passed away January 13, 1999 of natural causes. He is survived by his wife, Rose; son, Wib (Roma) McKibbin; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Perk moved to Tucson in 1977 after retiring as a Chevrolet parts dept. manager in Mars, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed playing golf twice a week at El Rio Golf Course until he was 92 years old. Perk will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 1999 at the Church of the Painted Hills, 3295 W. Speedway Blvd

PAINTER, Robert L., of Tucson, died January 2, 1999, was born February 18, 1929. He is survived by his wife, Prudence 'Pat'; two sisters, Emma Carmack and Florence Schlottoman both of Illinois and many nephews and nieces. He will be missed by all.

PRICE, Larry L., passed away at his home at the age of 62 on January 5, 1999 and was laid to rest January 8th at Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 30 years, Mary; son, Ryan; daughter, Amy and brother, Roy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mayselle. Larry was an engineer at Hughes Aircraft for 35 years until he retired in 1989. In 1977 he fell in love with a Model T he called 'Chug' and joined the Tucson Touring T's. He then became a charter member of the Southern Arizona Model T Ford Club, a lifetime honorary member of the Old Pueblo Touring Association and belonged to the Early Ford V-8 Club. Larry earned respect and admiration to all who knew him. He was a true friend, always ready to help anyone who needed it. He will be missed forever especially his keen sense of humor and wit. His family would like to express their sincerest appreciation for the many cards and prayers extended to them during this difficult time. Any fond memories or stories of Larry that you would like to share with the family will be included in a remembrance album. A heartfelt 'Thank You' to friends, F. Hoiles and Yolanda H. for their special contributions to the memorial service.

RIGOLI, Ernie C., Jr., age 41, of Tucson, died Monday, January 11, 1999. Survivors include: parents, Julia H. and Ernest C. Rigoli, Sr.; sister, Julie M. (Jose) Rigoli; niece, Christina Bernal-Rigoli; fiancee, Kelly; uncles, Buddy, Gus and Albert; aunts, Chiqui, Margaret and Gloria. Numerous cousins and friends who dearly loved him also survive. His sudden and tragic death challenges all of us who were touched by his charisma and zest for life. His exceeding generosity and love for animals, especially Sophia, Roxanne, Ruben, Kodiak and Maya is unforgettable. Always remember Ernie with kind words and a prayer. Ernie was born in Salina, Kansas, November 12, 1957. He attended Magee Jr. High, graduated from Sabino High School in 1976 and attended the University of Arizona. He owned and operated Desert Agenda and Barrio Grill & Restaurant. He mostly liked to fish. Rosary at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Camino Pio Decimo & Pima St., 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 1999. Lyon Henry Strong
1916 – 1998
Lyon was a lifelong Tucsonan. Though he was born in Oregon his family returned to AZ. when he was five years old. His parents were Leon Henri Strong and Marguerite Brown Strong. His grandparents were Arizona pioneers, James Kilroy Brown and Olive Stephenson Brown. In 1877 they settled in an area South of Tucson which they named Sahuarita. Some of the land originally owned by his Grandparents was owned by Lyon until he sold it to Farmers Investment in 1978.
He attended Safford School, Tucson High School and the University of Arizona. He was commissioned in the horse Calvary in 1941. He served for 34 months in the So. Pacific with the American Division, 754th Tank Bn where he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He retired from the active Reserve as Lt. Col in 1967.
He married Dorothy Trenck in 1942. They had three children, Lyon II, Susan and Robert. After 26 years with Romanoski Glass he retired and spent 20 wonderful years traveling with his wife in their R.V.
He died peacefully after a short illness on November 25, 1998. His family and friends will miss him very much. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Lyon II, Susan Strong-Dowd (John); grandchildren, Christopher Strong (Lydia), Kathleen and Meghan Dowd; sister, Olive Brand; brothers, Wm (Bess) Strong and Dr. James K. (Ruth Anne) Strong. Also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 18, 1999 at St. Cyril's Church, 4725 E. Pima at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1636 N. Swan, Ste. 151, Tucson 85712 or TMC Hospice, P.O. Box 42195, Tucson 85733. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, (Dodge Chapel).

VARGAS, Josefina A., 82, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away January 13, 1999. Preceded in death by husband, Ramon 'Pinky' Vargas. Survived by daughter, Marta A. Vargas (Gamal Elefellah); brothers, Fernando Alvarez, Frank, Samuel, Robert and Pete Valdovin. Also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 17, 1999 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Monday, January 18, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Vargas was a dedicated lifetime member of the Guadalupana at St. Augustine's Cathedral. Donations may be made to the St. Augustine's Maintenance Fund. WALDEN, Mary Margaret, 82, died January 11, 1999. Mother of Ed Walden, Barbara Baker, Mike Walden, John Alden, Steve Walden, Kathy Carney and Debbie Bouwens; sisters of Ruth Martin; aunt of Larry Khune; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Mass will be offered 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 18 at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, 4725 E. Pima St. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

WIMP, Dean Alan, a Major in the US Air Force Reserves, went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 1999 in Loma Linda, California. He was born in Chicago, Ill.October 11, 1951 and grew up in Monmouth, Ill. Dean was the son of Dr. Harold F. Wimp of Monmouth, Ill., who preceded him in death and his mother, Mrs. Walardean Wimp Mr. Wimp served in the Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the 1990's. He was currently the Logistics Officer in the US Air Force Reserves with the 701st Combat Operations Squadron at March ARB in California. He was a lifetime member of the Reserve Officers Association where he served as a past president and board member. He attended the University of the Ozarks in Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1976. He served as the president of the Yamma-Yamma Club. Dean was a born-again Christian, who loved to worship the Lord with his wife and fellow believers at Bible Fellowship Church in Hemet, CA. Graveside service was held at Riverside National Cemetery on January 13, 1999. Memorial Service was held after Graveside Services at the Bible Fellowship Church in Hemet, CA. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Donna L. Wimp, whom he met and married at the University of the Ozarks; one daughter, Angela Gee and her husband, Kevin Gee of Seattle, Washington; one son, Gregory Wimp of Corralitos, CA; his mother, Wilardean Wimp of Denver, CO; two sisters, Gail Arthur and Marcie Wimp both of Littleton, CO; a brother, Gary Wimp of Los Altos, CA; six nephews and four nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gospel for Asia, 1932 Walnut Plaza, Carrollton, TX 75006. Funeral arrangements have been coordinated with Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, in Riverside, CA.

WOLF, Jr., Raymond A., 79, died January 11, 1999. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

BAZZETTA, George T., 91, retired Tucson High School Educator, died January 9, 1999 in Tucson, Arizona. Born August 25, 1907, to James Bazzetta, Sr. and Nancy Calcaterra Bazzetta in Morenci, AZ. His wife Mary (Kalil) Bazzetta preceded him in death. Surviving are his brother, James from Peoria, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. George graduated as valedictorian from Morenci High School in 1926 and from the U of A with a BS in 1930 and an MS in 1931. While at the University, he was elected President of Phi Lambda Upisilon Chemistry Society, Phi Delta Kappa (Education Society) andas an Associate Member of the National Research Society. His teaching experiences included Holbrook, Ariz. High School from 1931 to 1938, Assistant Instructor at the U of A in 1939 then from 1939 to 1971 at Tucson High School as a teacher and became head of the science department. In 1959 he was elected an outstanding Science Teacher by the Arizona Academy of Science. In 1961 he was selected by the National Science Foundation as one of the 15 high school teachers in the nation to be invited to Washington D.C. for consultation with a select group of college professors. In 1968 he received the James Bryant Conan Award from the American Chemical Society, as one of the six outstanding chemistry teachers in the nation. Other honors were the Ford Foundation Fellowship under the Fund of Advancement of Education, the Shell Merit Fellowship for study at Stanford University, and the National Science Teacher Institute Award to attended summer school sessions at the University of Arizona and Denver University. Among his other professional activities, he served four years on the Classroom Teacher-Superintendent Dr.Morrow Committee. He was a delegate to the Arizona Education Association for 25 years. He served as Chairman of the State Resolution Committee and State Salary Committee. He also served as Chairman of a committee of Principals, classroom teachers, and School Board to write an evaluation procedure for teacher performance. Since retiring in 1971, he remained active in the National Retired Teachers Association, was co-founder of a monthly luncheon meeting group of THS retirees and enjoyed traveling in the US, Mexico and Europe. Golf was a passion. He was a staunch U of A athletic fan and in 1995 he was inducted into the Tucson High Badger Foundation Hall of Fame. He was an active member of SS Peter and Paul Parish for over 60 years. Visitation will be Friday, January 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 at Valley Funeral Home, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. (327-6341) and 30 minutes prior to services at SS. Peter and Paul on Saturday, January 16, with Mass beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Donations may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Permanent School Fund, Tucson High School Badger Foundation, Parkinson's Disease Foundation or any charity of your choice.

M. Vincent Blakely
Vince died on January 13, 1999 after a long illness following a stroke in 1974. He was born in Mesa in 1915 and a lifelong Arizona resident. His parents, Charles and Luella, settled in Mesa, Arizona before the turn of the century, and in 1918 moved to Gilbert, where Charles established his business. Over the years, there was Blakely Motor Co., a furniture store, gas station, ice business and a cafe.
Vince attended Gilbert schools, and in 1931 graduated High School at the age of 14 from Castle Heights Military Academy in Tennessee. He went on to college at what is now Arizona State University and played the clarinet in a college dance band.
During World War II, he was with the first contingent of the United Sates Army Air Corps. leaving the country in 1942. Over the next 38 months, he served in Australia, India and China. He was with the 25th Fighter Squadron, which became part of the Flying Tigers under General Claire Chennault and received several medals, including two Bronze Stars. He was very proud of his military service and has written numerous essays and several memoirs of his 'loves, hates and other experiences' in the war.
In 1949 Vince founded Blakely Service Stations, Inc., in Tucson, opening his first station on East Speedway. His was the first local gas station to introduce self-service, which quickly spread throughout the state. His stations embodied a new concept – large with many service bays, auto supply stores and promotional give-aways. Customers lined up, not only to buy gas, but to collect 'cactus' glasses and dishes. They also received tickets for new car drawings.
Vince eventually sold his business to Gulf Oil in the mid-60's. He had many interests, but was primarily known as an avid tennis fan. He liked to say that he slept, ate and breathed tennis… He also loved Mexico and crossed the gulf numerous times in his boat.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth; sons, Bill and Bob, both of Tucson and his daughter, Linda of Bronxville, NY. He has three granddaughters, Brandy, Kristi and Robin, all of Tucson. His sister, JoElla Tanner lives in Phoenix. Two great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Service 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 1999 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Rev. Howard Higgins officiating. Burial in TMP East Lawn with Military Honors by Davis-Monthan Elite Honor Guard. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 18th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

Betty Arlene Buffalo-Hayes - A long time resident of Tucson, entered the gates of heaven to be with our Lord on January 13, 1999. Betty, daughter of Lyle and Ruby Shaw was born on the 16th of July 1933 in Pawnee, Okla. She is survived by her children, Randy (Denise), Steven and Laura Buffalo; brothers, Ray, Henry and Glenn Shaw; sisters, Dolly Kincaid and Ruth Arndt; grandchildren, Devin, Dylan, Ilyssa and Stephano. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 1999 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave. Visitation for family and friends two hours prior to service. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

CLARK, Matthew, 39, of Marana, died January 13, 1999. He was a US Navy Veteran and served on the Board of Directors for the Marana Health Care Center. Survived by wife, Michelle Clark; children, Shane, Kyle, Ryan, Leela and Fern, all of Marana; brothers, Phillip and Larry Clark of Mt. Airy, MD, Joseph and Theodore Clark of Lews, DE; sisters, Joyce Mayer of Mt. Airy, MD, Virginia Collins of Lews, DE; and mother, Patricia Clark of Lews, DE. Friends may call Sunday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, 10:00 a.m. St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 12101 W. Moore Rd., Marana, with entombment to follow at Holy Hope Mausoleum. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
