KOLMODIN, Duane T. 'Duke' 73, died January 24, 1999 in Tucson. Born February 28, 1925 in Akron, Ohio. Preceded in death by his wife, Ardath and brother, Robert. Duke worked in Ellensburg, WA at the Dairy Record for 20 years. He retired in 1988 from the Yakima Herald after 13 years as a Typesetter. Duke then moved to Tucson shortly after his retirement. While in Tucson Duke was a active member in Barber Shop Sunshine Chorus, Elks Club, and the Rolling Hills Golf Club. Duke was loved and will be missed by his family and friends. Duke is survived by two sons, Mark Kolmodin and Eric Kolmodin; one daughter, Dianne Hall; two brothers, Norman Kolmodin and Allan Kolmodin; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Duke's immediate family would like to thank all of his friends at Tucson East Apartments and the Cascades for all their friendship, kindness, and care. No services are planned at this time. SHERMAN, Phillip G., 29, Nowata, died Sunday, January 24, 1999 in Vinita, OK. He was born March 30, 1969, to John Fayette and Sally Ann Carpenter Sherman in Syracuse, NY. Mr. Sherman graduated from Noble High School in Noble High School in Noble, OK in 1987. He lived in Noble, OK and Norman, OK before moving to Nowata, OK. Mr. Sherman enjoyed golf, poker and family games. He was also a dedicated employee of Earthgrains. He is survived by his father, John Sherman of Dibble, OK; his mother, Sally Quain of Tucson, AZ; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Cathy Sherman of Norman, OK, Mike and Glenda Sherman of Tuttle, OK; a sister, Sherrie Nelson of Tucson, AZ; five nieces and two nephews. Ira Lee Barnett, 78, of Tucson, died January 23, 1999. Born January 6, 1921 in Long Beach, California. Ira came to the U of A on a Football Scholarship and played on the Varsity Team from 1940-42, also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He joined the 20th Air Force during WWII and with the 58th Bomber Group flew numerous missions from Tinnian over Tokyo under the command of General Le May. Upon return he received a BS Degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Ira is survived by wife of 40 years Beatrice; son, James Laster; one sister, one brother and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Elizabeth 'Sister' Campbell, 76, passed on January 24, 1999. Quietly, she was a pillar of strength for her family and community and simply a joy to be with – just ask anyone who was blessed with the opportunity to be in her presence.
She was born April 20, 1922, in Crockett, TX, to Willie and Sarah Rodgers. She married Thearthur Campbell in 1938, and together with their four daughters, moved to Marana, Arizona in 1945. They brought two more daughters and three sons to the family after moving to Arizona.
Referred to as: 'Sister' by friends, 'Miss Sister' by the children of the community, 'Aunt Sister' by nieces and nephews, Liz or Elizabeth to co-workers, 'Mom' by her children and 'Granny' by her grandchildren, she was a home maker and house wife and spent 12 years as the most revered cook ever at Evergreen Air Center in Marana before she retired in 1987. As a respected mother of the village of Rillito, 'Miss Sister' helped to raise all the children there, but her focus was primarily on surviving daughters, Venora of Phoenix, Elnora of Rillito, Helen (Troy) of Dallas, Jessie of Rillito, Kathryn of Phoenix; granddaughter, La Donna of Las Vegas; and daughter-in-law, Debbie of Atlanta. Surviving sons, Thearthur Jr.'Sonny' (Cindy) of Tucson and Edward Earl (Gloria Ann) of Rillito. She is also survived by sisters, Margie Purvis of Tucson, Earlie B. Spearman of Eloy, and Elvia Dean Gardner of Oklahoma; and brothers, Willie B. Rodgers of Galveston, TX, O.C. Rodgers of Crockett TX, A.C. Rodgers of Tucson, and J.W. Rodgers of Tucson. Additionally, 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, and a lifetime full of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents Willie and Sarah Rodgers; brother, Ernest; husband, Thearthur Campbell, Sr.; daughter, Zelma Marie; and son, Theodis.

Born in Tucson, AZ, resided in Santa Monica, CA, 1963 to 1992 with her husband, Harry E. Clemens who preceded her in death, returned to Tucson in 1993. Molly (Mejia) earned recognition as pitcher for Tucson's softball team, 'Cine Plaza Flirts'. Molly is survived by daughters, Norma Garcia and Susan Mejia and grandchildren, Raul Andres Garcia and Ramona Ayn Lopez. Memorial Mass to be held at St. Monica's Catholic Church, 212 W. FRANCES SLETTEN DUTT
Passed away on Saturday, January 23, 1999. Born November 12, 1933, Frances grew up and attended high school in Great Falls, Montana. She later attended Stephens College and graduated with honors with a degree in Mathematics from Montana State University. It was during a summer break in 1951 that she met her husband of 44 years, Dr. Gordon Dutt. They were married on September 12, 1954, and moved to Lafayette, IN, and later Davis, CA, before finally settling in Tucson, AZ in 1964. Frances was a founding member of Dove of Peace Lutheran Church where she served on the church council and performed numerous volunteer duties. She taught preschoolers in the Head Start program at the Pio Decimo Center, starting as a volunteer and later becoming a full-time teacher. In 1979, she and Gordon co-founded the Vina Sonoita Vineyard and in 1983, the Sonoita Vineyards Winery. A new addition to the winery was dedicated to her last November.
Frances is survived by her husband, Gordon; two sons, Richard (Robin) Dutt of Safford, AZ and Howard (Chris) Dutt of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Allison, Lori, Adam, and Neil; her sister, Marian May of Great Falls, MT; and her brother, Robert (Pat) Sletten of Great Falls, MT. Preceded in death by a sister, Helen Neel.
A memorial service and celebration of Frances' life will be held on Friday, January 29, at 4:00 p.m. at the Dove of Peace Lutheran Church, 665 West Roller Coaster Road, Tucson, AZ the family asks that remembrances be made in her name to Planned Parenthood of Arizona, a cause Frances felt strongly about, or the American Diabetes Association.
Frances' final years were spent suffering the effects of a series of strokes, and her family wishes to sincerely thank all of her friends for their help, support, and visits during this difficult time.
EGGELING, Helen Patricia, Tucson resident for over 50 years, passed away this Sunday, January 24, 1999 in her home. Born in Ottawa, Canada, she moved to New York during World War II where she met and married I. N. J. Eggeling, a doctor in the US Army Air Corps. Having an adventurous spirit, she traveled the world. From riding elephants through the jungles of Indonesia to digging for opals in Australia to climbing Mt. Fuji in Japan, she reveled in experiencing what life had to offer. Settling in Tucson, she adopted and raised three children, earned her Masters degree, taught English at Pueblo High School, sold real estate, modeled and hosted many an outstanding dinner party. Intelligent, regal and gracious, Helen Eggeling was a kind and generous soul who concerned herself with the needs of others, touching the lives of many people in a powerful way. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, especially her children, Machiko Cummings, Norwood Eggeling and Heather Stahle; her 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as her surviving sisters, Lou Quinn and Stella Pritchard.
