CAPT. MILTON H. HOUPIS - The family of Capt. Milton H. Houpis wishes to remember a fine seaman and a wonderful father and grandfather. Captian Houpis was born on August 15, 1916 and died on February 2, 1999. He graduated from United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kingspoint 1942. Sailed as Master Captain 15 years, total sea time 25 years as an officer in the Merchant Marines, Veteran of World War Two, U.S.N.R 15 years. After retiring from the sea became manager of the Palomino Restaurant for 22 years. He was known as 'The Captain'.
He was a member of the American Legion Morgan McDermott Post #7, Navy League Tucson Council, Ahepa, Mason St. John's Lodge No. 233 Penn., Active with US Naval Sea Cadets, Cactus Mariners of Arizona, American Merchant Marine Veteran.

GAGNON, Irene Mary, passed away Saturday, February 6, 1999. Preceded in death by her husband, Armand C. Gagnon in 1985; her daughter, Glenda Lee Babcock, 1975; a step-grandson, Darrin Morrison and parents, James and Mary Townsend. Irene is survived by her granddaughter, Jeanine M. Rhodes and her two sons, Daniel and Brian Rhodes of Chandler, AZ; stepdaughter, Beverly Morrison, her daughter, Trudy Cook and step-great-grandchildren, Abby and Matt Cook, all of El Dorado, KS, and a stepson, Armand R. Gagnon of Tucson. She is also survived by a sister, Ethel M. Cotterill; her niece, Margie (Ray) Pschierer of Rochester, N.Y.; her nephews, David (Joan) Cotterill of Advance, N.C. and many other great-nieces and nephews. Irene was born on July 3, 1915 in Rochester, N.Y. She and her daughter moved to Tucson in 1952 and she worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. for many years. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima church and an avid volunteer at Kino Hospital New Baby Nursery. She also served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's Hospital. She recently lived at Villa Maria Retirement Home where she ministered to many of the residents. Irene donated her body to the University of Arizona College of Medicine. A Memorial Mass will be held for Irene at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Monday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m. with Father McGloin officiating. PEYTON, Alvin Leon 'Sun' age 89, a resident of Tucson, AZ, died Tuesday, February 9, 1999 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Funeral Services for Mr. Peyton will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 12in the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp Funeral Home in Bartlesville, with Rev.Roger Clark presiding. Following services, Mr. Peyton will be removed for cremation with burial on the family plot of the Dewey Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Peyton was born in Adair, Oklshoma, July 16, 1909, the son of Walter C. and Martha L. (Kincaide) Peyton. As a child, he moved with his family to Dewey, OK and received his schooling there. Following his schooling, he made his home in Minneapolis, MN where he was active in various businesses. He and Irene DeForge were united in marriage and they made their home in San Bernardino, CA. Mr. and Mrs. Peyton continued their home in San Bernardino for 45 years until moving to Tucson, Arizona in retirement.
Mr. Peyton was a member of the Light House for the Blind and active in The Guide Dogs of the Desert.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of the home in Tucson; a daughter, Claudia Peyton of Omaha, NE; two sons, Darryl Peyton of Tucson, AZ and William Peyton of Covina, CA; a brother, Dale Payton of Pawhuska, OK; a granddaughter, Chloe Peyton and several nieces and nephews.
SEIDE, Henry Rider, a great spirit has passed among and from us February 10, 1999. Henry left our lives after being stricken with multiple strokes, and journeyed to a far greater place. We were honored 74 years with his presence. Hank was born January 17, 1925 in Twin Brooks, SD to Jessie Rider and Henry W. Seide. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Melba Tillman and two sons-in-law, David Cox and Joe Miller. He is survived by his children, Henry 'Chip' of GA, Chuck of Glendale, AZ, Laurie and daughter, Andrea of CO, Dianne, Mike and former wife, Gladys of Tucson. Also, sisters, Elizabeth Welch (Bill) of Oracle; Maelou Bosley of FL; brother-in-law, Gerry Tillman of SD, and many nieces and nephews. Hank was a farmer and a mechanic in SD for the majority of his life. He had grown up there and had many friends and memories of his hometown. He moved to AZ in 1968, settling in Tucson about 1970, but in many ways his heart remained in SD. He continued as a mechanic and worked for Holmes Tuttle Ford for eight years, later working with Matthews Chevrolet three years, retiring in 1984. He will be remembered for his quiet, unassuming ways, his laughter, wit, and many shenanigans, his great knowledge of cars, his joy of working the earth and growing love. Dad, you'll always be in our hearts. Your memory will live forever. The only thing greater than our love for you will be our sorrow in losing your spirit. Rest in peace, Dad. Better days are ahead. He married Phyllis Stewart Creel on July 9, 1979 in Payson, Ariz. CHAREST, Edward Ernest, died at home after a brief illness, on February 9, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Myra Tobiason Charest; sister Viola Rouge(Roland) of Montreal, Canada; brother Gerard Charest (Theresa) of Rochester, MA; Nieces Janet Poyant (Phillip) of Rochester, MA; Claire Parent (Lawrence) of Newbedford, MA; many other nieces and nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Ed was a graduate of the University of Illinois and Catholic University. He was active in working with youth in the church and community. He is loved and well regarded for his work in the fields of education and counseling. He will be cremated according to his wishes. A Memorial Mass will be given February 16, 1999, by Father Cyprian at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave, at 9:00 AM.
