MASSA, Margret P., embraced her Lord and Savior on Valentine's Day at the age of 82. She came to Tucson in 1946 and retired as a sales associate for Foley's Department Store. She is survived by her three daughters, Lynn Fuller-Gaare (Robert) and Cara Massa of Tucson and Paula Massa-Apelian (Christopher) of New Jersey and three grandchildren, Lisa Tuck and Tad Hindhaugh of Tucson and Andrea Fuller of Fullerton, CA. She is preceded in death by her sister and best friend Martha Lamp and is survived by her brother, Anthony 'George' Lamparelli (Mary Ann) and sister Norma Jean French, nieces, nephews, and her godchild, Mary Ann Murphy-Snow of Phoenix. Through her Christian beliefs, her family has gained the wisdom and strength to endure adversities and to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. We thank you for all you taught us, Mom. A memorial mass will be said at St. Cyril's Catholic Church on Friday March 5, at 1:00 PM. Contributions can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 616 N. Country Club, Suite B, Tucson, 85716.

RICARDO JESUS PALACIOS, 15, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 1999. Born October 20, 1983 in Tucson, Arizona. preceded in death by his father, Edward C. Palacios. Survived by grandparents, Frank Rodriguez and Socorro Palacios; mother, Virginia Palacios; step-father, Phil Lopez; brothers, Everett Acosta, Edward (Martha) and Robert (Sonia) Palacio; sister, Francis (Richard) Rodriguez; nephews, Robert, Edward and Ruben; niece, Alexis. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Ricardo was a former student at Pueblo High School. He finally succumbed a long battle of leukemia. RENFROW, Dorothy Jean, age 70, died Sunday February 28, 1999. She is survived by one son, Bradley (Judi) Renfrow of Marina Del Rey, CA; one daughter Wendy (Jack) Misenhimer of Black Forrest, CO; one brother Joseph (Jeannie) Fannin of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Dawneille, Kyla, Lance, Brian and Dillon. Mrs. Renfrow is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and her extended family of friends. Dorothy had been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 24 years, and was a docent at Reid Park Zoo. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME DODGE CHAPEL, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway). The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be made, in memory of Mrs. Renfrow, to Reid Park Zoo, c/o Zoo Administration, 1100 S. Randolph Way, 85716.

JAMES BERRY ROBERTS III, 85, died February 25, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Edith. Survived by his sons, J. Berry Roberts IV and Larry D. Roberts; grandson, James Roberts V; four sisters, Ruth Johantgen, June (Earl) Wesson, Fern Armstrong and Ernestine Richardson. Mr. Roberts served his country in the U.S. Army for 34 years, principally as a Medical Administrator. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the York Rite. He was also a **KYCH** and the Red Cross of Constantine, and a member of St. Marks Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, 1999 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., where funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999. Entombment will be at East Lawn Palms cemetery.

Martin Schwartz, age 86, passed away Friday, February 26, 1999. Devoted husband of Lillian, devoted father of Steven and Arlene, Gerald and Brenda. Martin served in the army from 1943 to 1946 as a medic. He received The Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, The European African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and a Purple Heart. He was an all around athlete who played semi-pro football and tennis. He worked as a bartender at Madison Square Garden in New York City for 20 years, and retired in 1976, volunteered at the Downtown Police Department for 8 years, the Veterans Hospital for 20 years, and the Pima Council of Aging. Martin was much loved by all who knew him. We will all miss him. Memorial gathering will be Tuesday, March 2, 1999 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Villa Serenas Banquet Room, 8111 East Broadway.

SMITH, Vernon Lee, 70, died February 26, 1999. Survived by his wife, Sarah; daughters, Monica Brothers and Joan Young; mother, Ruth Smith; Carla Van Feldt; grandchildren, Melissah and Amanda Brothers, James and Jan Kuchta. preceded in death by father, Horace Smith. Vernon was a life member of the Glacier Lodge No. 10F & AM, The Scottish Rite, Al Aska Shrine Temple, The American Legion Jack Henry Post No. 1. Avid fisherman and hunter and a pilot. Served his community and country, veteran of the U.S. Navy. Had a very adventurous, rewarding life. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, an Aftercare Provider, 5801 East Grant Road. Masonic Service Bureau officiating. VAN DERHERCHEN, Ralph E., 76, died February 25, 1999. Survived by his wife Edna (Broyles) Van Derherchen; many other family members, Susan Clark, Frank and Ed Broyles, Carole Seamon, Judy Long; grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Ralph was a member of El Camino Baptist Church, past president of the Pennsylvania Club and member of the Gideons International. Served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 1, 1999 at El Camino Baptist Church, 7777 E. Speedway with Pastor Kevin Shorkey officiating. AGUILAR, Arturo M., born August 7, 1922, died Friday, February, 26 1999 in Chula Vista CA. He was a life long resident of Tucson. preceded in death by his wife Evangelista Salinas; his parents Manuel and Maria Aguilar; sister Hortencia Gallardo; brothers Manuel and Roy. He leaves behind his loving family; daughter, Betty Daugherty; sons, Art Jr., Robert, Abel and Richard; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; also brothers Antonio, Carlos, Jerry, Frank, and Rudy; sisters Leonor Sedor, Lupe Desjardin. Rosary on Tuesday, March 2 1099, 7:00 p.m. at Humphry Mortuary. Mass 11:00 a.m., St. Rosa Lima Catholic Church in Chula Vista, CA. During world War II he survived the sinking of the USS Princeton in the South Pacific. He will be best remembered in Tucson by his many friends as a good sales- man and great golfer.

BURNS, Barbara Irene Brown, age 67 of Santa Fe, died on Sunday, February 28, 1999, in Santa Fe, following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Frances Brown; and step-mother, Becky Brown. Barbara was born February 17, 1932 in Iowa City, IA. She wed Hal Burns, Jr. in November 1950 in Lordsburg, NM. They were married for 25 years. She was raised and schooled in Tucson, Az and was a graduate of Tucson High School. Her family lived in California and Arizona before moving to New Mexico in 1969, living first in Chama and then in Santa Fe. In the 1970's she was involved in the CETA Program and in 1978-1979 she worked for the Legislature. She had been employed at Sunwest Bank in Albuquerque and later worked as a tours and information specialist at the State Capitol Building. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and an active member of Santa Fe Community Foundation. She was also active and involved in Capitol City Business and Professional Women's Organization. Barbara is survived by her beloved three children, Hal Burns III and his wife, Laurie, of Flagstaff, AZ, Madelyn Hatch and husband, Larry, of Tucson, AZ and David F. Burns of Santa Fe. She is also survived by her brother, Bob Brown and wife, Vickie, of Houston, TX; sister, Roberta Chapman and husband, Ron, of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Larry P. Hatch, Vanessa Smith, Julie Vernon, Jennifer Burns and James Hatch; and great grandchildren, Zoeriah Smith and Cassidy Vernon. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 3, 1999 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Funeral Chapel. A celebration of Barbara's life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Santa Fe Community Foundation or St. John's United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. CASTRO, Joseph H., 54, of Tucson, passed away February 13, 1999. Survived by wife, Delise Cumble Castro; parents, Jose Maria Castro and Frieda B. Castro; daughter, Michelle C. Busch; stepsons, Mary C. Rascon, Terry C. Cordova, and Margaret C. Velador; brothers, Richard B. and Ernest B. Castro. Also survived by three grandchildren. FLORES, Severiano B., 90, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away February 24, 1999. Survived by wife, Maria Flores; daughters, Margaret (Gilbert) Salcido, Teresa (Joe) Martinez, and Isabel Laird; sons, William, Herman, Ernesto F., Jesse, Edward, Rudy, and Raul Flores, and Jesus (Tony) Sanchez; nieces, Sarah Johnson, Esther Flores, and Josefina Tapia. Also survived by 48 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 03, 1999 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, South Chapel, 240 S. Mr. Severiano was immigrated to the U.S. in 1926 from Leon Guenajato, Mexico. He immediately started a successful 46 year career with Southern Pacific Railroad. He was loved and will be missed. FREGOSO, Hortensia Ruiz, age 73, born in Peoria, Arizona on August 19, 1925, passed away on February 27, 1999. preceded in death by parents Vicente and Balbaneda Ruiz and sister Maria Luz Kane. Survived by husband of 52 years, Roberto L. Fregoso; three sons: Robert (Ethel), Joe (Teresa), Javier (Edith) Fregoso, three daughters, Alice (Rene) Redondo, Irma Fregoso, Elisa (John) Monteleone; 14 grandchildren: Roberto Jay, Jeremy (Meg), Janelle, Javier, Simon, Jason, and Jered Fregoso, Stacy (Todd) Schulte, Shellie (David) Barker, Jeanne Redondo, Stephanie and Jessica Monteleone, Rudy Castro and Freddy Romero; five great-grandchildren: Branden, Casey, Jeshua, and Darien Barker, and Chad Schulte. Also survived by four brothers: Manuel (Victoria), Mario (Julia), Francisco (Fermina), and Ernesto (Ernestina) Ruiz; and three sisters: Balbaneda (Alfonso) Gutierrez, Cristina (Alfonso) Solano and Maria Elena (Octavio) Acosta, and by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Nana will be best remembered for her incredible posole, love of family and willingness to help everyone. We will all miss her dearly. Vaya Con Dios! GARCIA, Robert T., 75, of Tucson. He was born April 15, 1923. He passed away February 25, 1999. He is survived by wife of 37 years, Carole Garcia; children, Danny, Roberta, and Wayne; nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Terrones; brother, Dan Garcia. He was a resident of Tucson since 1979. He was a longtime member of VFW Post 549 & The Marine Corp League. HAGEN, Elinor M., 87, of Tucson, died February 22, 1999. Survived by son, Richard and wife, Cathryn Hagen of Tucson; granddaughter, Launa Ruoff and Susan Hagen both of New Jersey. ROMERO, Bernabe Q. 'Blinky', 81, died February 26, 1999. Husband of Guadalupe Romero; father of Richard (Michele), George A., Mary E., Rudy J., Robert C., Victor B., Michael A. (Sherrie), Donna M. Romero all of Tucson, Dolores (Stephen) Wedge of MA and Gilbert E. Romero of Alaska; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. SHETTER, Dr. George Andrew, long time Tucson resident, died on Saturday, February 27, 1999. He was 86 years old. Dr. Shetter graduated from Richmond College and the Medical College of Virginia. He received additional training in ophthalmology at the Polyclinic Hospital in New York City and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He served in the Army Air Force as a flight surgeon during World War II. In 1946 he moved to Tucson where he practiced medicine for 50 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and served on the board of Big Brothers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Shetter; son, Dr. Andrew G. Shetter; daughter-in-law, Katherine Shetter; daughter, Susan Q. Shetter; and his three grandchildren, Drew and Sarah Shetter, and Kirstin Eggers. His family and friends will miss him. A memorial service will be held at St. Philip's in the Hills Church on Thursday, March 4th at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who desire may make contributions to Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Tucson, The American Diabetes Society or the Tucson Association for the Blind.
