JUTRY, Jodie Hubbard, 43, died March 2, 1999, following a lengthy battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). She was born February 18, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She arrived in Tucson in July 1979. Jodie developed the first full time speech and language program at Indian-Oasis Unified School District on the Tohono O'Odham Indian Reservation in Sells, AZ and wasa district speech pathologist from 1980 to 1985. She worked as a speech pathologist in Tucson Unified School District from 1987to 1995 including four years on the Pascua Yaqui Indian Reservation in southwest Tucson. Her interests included volunteering as a horse handler at Therapeutic Riding of Tucson (T.R.O.T.) horses and animals of all kinds and plants and animals of the southwest. She enjoyed recreational sports of horseback riding, skiing, hiking and water sports. Jodie is survived by her husband, James A. Jutry; her mother, Jeanette Bombach of Dayton, Ohio; her father, Harold B. Hubbard of Sonoita, AZ; brothers, Marc Hubbard of Columbus, Ohio, Hal Hubbard of Columbia, S. Carolina, Mike Mason and Ed Mason both of Houston, TX; sisters, Karen Cole and Karen Wells both of Benson, AZ. Her stepfather, Harry Mason of Hillsboro, Ohio; three nieces, three nephews, two godsons, best friend, Judy Ostermeyer and loving pets also survive. LEONES, Julie Patricia, born August 15, 1958, died March 2, 1999; Associate Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Agricultural and Resource Economics Department, College of Agriculture, University of Arizona. Julie is survived by her husband, Emanuel Leones; son, Ian Leones; daughter, Emily Leones; mother, Patricia Cowley; father, Boyd Wickman; sister, Laura Carle; and grandmother, Gertrude Cowley. PITMAN, Virginia Irene, 76, of 1029 East Fifth Street, died at 2:07 p.m. Wednesday in Fayette Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since February 26. She had been in failing health for several years. She was born January 31, 1923 in London, Kentucky, one of five children of Delbert H. and Stella Asher Henson, and came to Indiana for residence in 1979. She was a homemaker and a loving and devoted mother. Survivors include six children: Saundra Cornett of Connersville, Gene Edward Marsh of Indianapolis, Tonna Hendren of Tucson, AZ, Trudy Mann and Dale Marsh, both of Indianapolis, and Rodger Marsh of Tucson, AZ; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Ollie Harrison of Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bascom Marsh who died in 1969, three brothers, Dennis, Maurice and Russell Henson and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted by her son-in-law, the Rev. Richard Hendren, at 2:00 p.m. Monday in Miller, Moster, Robins Funeral Home, Connersville, IN, where friends may call from noon until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will be made in Valley Grove cemetery, Indiana.
STEVEKEN, Mary Jennings, 99, passed away March 2, 1999. Mary was born in Newark, NJ on December 20, 1899 to Thomas and Margaret Davin Jennings. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Paul and three brothers. Mary and Joseph were married
in St. Paul, MN on February 14, 1931 and moved to Tucson in 1963. Mary is survived by a daughter, Donna Morris; granddaughters, Virginia Carpenter and Elizabeth Levin; great-granddaughter, KC Carpenter and great-grandsons, Michael and Matthew Levin who reside in Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews in Minnesota and cousins.
Mary was a volunteer at Carondelet St. Joseph's hospital for 14 years, and a long standing member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Mary will be remembered by her loving friends for her wonderful Irish wit, her kindness, generosity, and her delight in having fun.
Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6th at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd. with Fr. Larry Kasper officiating. VAUGHN, Margret Ann (Knight), born August 26, 1917, died March 1, 1999. Margret was a true daughter of Arizona. Predeceased by her mother, Florence Knight (Crane), who was born in Vail, AZ; father, Earl T. Knight, who drove the first motorized fire truck in Tucson, and her husband, Frank (Slim) Vaughn; and three sisters. Carrying on for her are her children, Budd E. (Luann) Vaughn, Margret (Ron) Aros; grandchildren, Anthony (Nicole) and Jason Aros, Brian (Heather), Jamie and Linda Vaughn. Margret's ashes will be scattered on March 13 from her children's hot air balloon in a joyous celebration of her life of caring, giving and loving. Maggie graduated from Newport High School, Bellevue, WA; attended Western Washington University; earned advanced degrees in audiology and library science at University of Arizona. Worked as an audiologist for Ear, Nose and Throat Assoc. of Southern Arizona. At the time of her death, she was informational librarian at University of Missouri.

JANNING, Rev. Edward A., would have been 102 years old on March 6, passed on to a higher plain of life on March 4, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mildred, many friends and family. Rev. Janning was a retired teacher who believed in higher education. He served as an associate minister in his church. A memorial service will be held for Rev. Janning at the Church of Mankind, 1231 S. KELLEY-NICHOLS, Nina, a loving mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord March 3, 1999 at the age of 89, after a long courageous battle with illness. She was born to the late Mable and Julian Campbell in Missouri, August 27, 1909. Through her eyes she has seen and lived through a lot of history. In 1950, six months pregnant with their child she survived her first husband, Arthur J. Kelley. Mrs. Kelley worked as a private duty nurse and always provided for her daughter. In 1974 she married
Wm. Ernest Nichols, whom she survived in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Grace B. Nichols in 1972. Mrs. Nichols leaves behind her daughter and only child, Ninette A. Duke and her husband, Billy and his two sons, David and John of Arizona; granddaughters, Jennifer M. Drake of Phoenix and Judy E. Heidemann of Lakewood, CO; grandson, Jonathan L. Heidemann of Arlington, TX. She was a longtime resident of both Humble, Texas and Tucson where she was a member of Palo Verde Baptist Church in Tucson. She also was a representative for the 'Welcome New Comers' group in Tucson for three years, and she was a volunteer for eight years at St. Joseph's Hospital. Owen; daughter, Patricia (Roger) Morphey of Riverside, CA and Jean (Larry) Griffin of Amado, AZ; granddaughter, Kera Marquez of Tucson and great-granddaughter, Alexis Marquez of Tucson. PAYNE, John Christian, 24, Joined the Lord Saturday, February 13, 1999. He was an avid rodeo rider during his high school years and also loved tennis, football, hunting, skiing and most sports. He was a student at University of Arizona scheduled to graduate in May. He is lovingly remembered and intensely missed by: his father, John R. Payne of Tucson; mother, Mary E. Payne of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; and stepmother, Sandra J. Payne; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Payne and Dana Marie Payne and cousin, Russell R. Payne of Tucson; grandmother, Alice J.
