Marcel K. Webb, 77, passed away December 1, 2003 at YRMC. He was born in Yumaon December 4, 1925. Marcel graduated from Yuma Union High School, and retired from the Yuma County Highway Department. Marcel’s true love was wood working and fishing. He was a devoted husband and father. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Marcel is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wanda L. Webb; son Kenneth D. Webb; daughters, Janice (Dennis) Grubbs and Cheryl (Ray) Prather; grandson, Jacob Prather, granddaughters, Crystal Grubbs and Amanda Prather; brothers, Vernon and Lee; and sisters, Katheryn, Thelma, Carma and Norma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eustace and Martha Webb; sisters, Gertrude, Vera, Alic, and Edith; and brothers, Adrian and Edward.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Johnson Mortuary at 1:00pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Tyson.
Micheal Joe Derma
Micheal Joe Derma, 45, passed away December 1, 2003 at Yuma Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 20, 1958 at Parkview Hospital. He worked in pool services with Quechan Tribal Park and Recreation.Micheal was of Catholic faith. He graduated from San Pasqual High School and AWC College.
He is survived by his daughter, Felicia (Ira) Derma of Winterhaven, CA; parents, Joe and Frances Derma,and sisters, Gloria and Debbie Derma, all of the home in Winterhaven, CA; brothers, Joe (Deanna) Derma III, of Brawly, CA and Ernie (Annette) Derma of Yuma; grandmother, Hope Derma, of Winterhaven, CA; one grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Derma Sr.
Visitation will be December 4, 2003 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Mortuary, with funeral service on December 5, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Mission. His final resting place will be Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Joe Derma III, Greg Derma, Simon Derma, Steven Derma, Ira Jones, and Charles DeGrande. Honorary bearers include Rick Derma, Joe Derma Jr., Ray Derma, Ron Derma, Ron Swiftarrow and Ernie Derma.
Billie Jean Van Over
Billie Jean Van Over, 74, passed away at her home on December 1, 2003. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona on November 28, 1929. She was a homemaker, golfer and avid gardner.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jesse; her three children, Mike (Gloria) King, Marla (Russell) Byrd, and Mary Van Over; grandchildren, Adam, Eden, A.J., Ashley, and Mike; two great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.
All the cards, phone calls, flowers, and presents over the past year gave her such strength and comfort. At her request, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice.
Ida Mae Meeks
Ida Mae Meeks, 73, passed away November 29, 2003. She was born August 25, 1930 in Blanchard, OK.
Ida Mae was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend to many.Her life was spent caring for her family and friends. She loved to cook, sew, quilt, and crochet. Her family and friends will enjoy her artistic abilities with fond memories for many years.
She enjoyed watching her family grow. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of pride and pleasure for her. One of her most favorite sayings was “Daddy, get the camera,” as is evident in the many albums of pictures that will be treasured by the family.
She also liked canning fresh vegetables grown in her garden. Many people also enjoyed the homemade jellies and preserves that she and her husband made.During the holiday season she was known for her Christmas candies that she shared with family and friends. Making sure everyone was fed, and everyone was cared for was what her life was all about.
Ida Mae worked as a waitress at the Valley Café in Yuma in the 50’s. She also worked for many years as a waitress at Loo’s Restaurant here in Yuma before she retired. She touched many lives and made many friends, as she made sure that they were taken care of, even at work.
She will be missed by many, but her love and legacy lives on through her family and friends.
Ida Mae is survived by her husband, Robert N. Meeks, of Yuma; daughters, Sharon Hutcheson and Carol (Harold) Kirchner and sons, Summer (Lina) Franks, Bobby Franks, all of Yuma, and Lloyd (Linda) Meeks of Santee, CA; brothers, Floyd Horn of Deland, CA and C.C. Horn of Bakersfield, CA; sisters, Flosie Franks of Roswell, NM and Lucille Fore of Blanchard, OK, as well as nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Horn; mother, Frances Horn; sisters, Dora Floyd and Evelyn Davis; and brothers, Benny, George, Ernie, and Thurman Horn.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on December 5, 2003 at Johnson Mortuary, with funeral services on December 6, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.Phillip Knisley will officiate. Her final resting place will be Desert Lawn Memorial Park.Pallbearers include Don Miller, Ron Franks, Louis Collins, Jeff Welch, Ronald McKay, and Bobby Mckay. Jose Luz Mendiola
Jose Luz Mendiola, 68, of Somerton, died Nov. 25, 2003, at Yuma Regional Medical Center.
The U.S. Army veteran was born April 9, 1935, in Chicago and had been a fireman.
Private memorial services have already been held. Yuma Mortuary & Crematory handled arrangements, including cremation.
Douglas Emery Rankin
Douglas Emery Rankin, of Yuma, died Nov. 29, 2003, at home at 60.
He was born Oct. 31, 1943, in Hemet, Calif., and was a construction contractor. He also had served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
No services will be held. Yuma Mortuary & Crematory is handling arrangements, including cremation.
John Walsh Jr.
A graveside service will be held at noon Friday at Desert Lawn for John Walsh Jr., of Yuma, who died in Yuma Nov. 25, 2003, at age 74.
He was born April, 3, 1929, in Boston and was a retired Border Patrol agent.
