MARGOLIS, Helen L., 85, widow of Maurice, passed away March 16, 1999. Mother of Dr. Harold (Sue) Margolis, Ronni (Roland) Kotwica and grandchildren, Ellis, Leah, and Amber Margolis and Reid Kotwica.
She was born in New York, but was a longtime resident of Tucson, attending Roskruge, Safford and graduating from Tucson High at age 16. She was active in the Jewish community and was one of the founders of The Tucson Jewish Community Council. Through U.S.O. she provided Friday night services for the serviceman at D.M. and Ft. Huachuca.
Helen was in the first group of Police Service Aids and graduated from the Tucson Police Academy. She retired as a paralegal in 1977 from the City Attorney's Office.
Graveside Services will be Sunday, March 21 at a time to be announced in the Veteran's Section of Evergreen cemetery, Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. MEYER, Roy Melvin, 90, died March17, 1999. PUNTENNEY, William H., beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, age 79, died March 17, 1999 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Paradise Valley.
Bill was born in Camp Verde, Arizona on October 11, 1919 and spent his early days on a cattle ranch in the Prescott area. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1941 where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He lettered in Polo, was a member of Bobcats Senior Men's Honorary and received a Reserve Commission as 2nd Lt. in the horse calvary.
After graduating, he was assigned to the 7th Calvary Regiment at Ft. Bliss. Three years later he landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day with the 29th Infantry Division. He became a highly decorated WWII veteran and received four Bronze Stars and two Silver Stars. At age 23, he was the youngest Lt. Col in the European Theater.
After the war Bill became a successful businessman in Phoenix and eventually returned to cattle ranching in Prescott. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Bonnie Pierce Puntenney; his children, Peggy Withers (Bob), James W. Puntenney (Judy) and Timothy P. Puntenney (Diane). In addition 'Dee' will be missedby his grandchildren, John, Taylor (Stacey) and Jeremy Rhodes, Josh Puntenney, Will and Elizabeth Puntenney and Catherine and Rob Withers.

SMITH, Judith M., passed away March 13, 1999. She was born on February 2, 1940 in Detroit, MI, and was preceded in death by her mother, Marian L. Morris and sister, Barbara M. Jones. Beloved mother of Kimberly H. Spurlock; grandmother of Lee, Austin, and Samantha Spurlock; and sister of Hank Morris, Jr. Judi was well known for being a very caring, compassionate woman who touched many lives. She was also greatly admired and loved for her courage and integrity by her many friends and co-workers at Our Town Family Center. AWOL – On March 3, 1999, Vietnam vet Charles Zimmerman, 57, 9th Marines, scion of Evansville, Indiana, teenage terror of Clearwater, Florida, crossed the wire and moved to a new base camp. Left behind were the Zimmermans of Indiana, many friends, his beloved Fiat, firearms, great adventures, tall tales, and just barely enough Cuervo Gold for the rest of us. ANDERSON, Naomi Ruth, 70, of Woodbridge, California and formerly of Tucson, AZ, died March 18th in Lodi, CAafter a brief illness. She was born Naomi Ruth Wood on April 11, 1928 in Okemah, Oklahoma. She resided in Phoenix, AZ, Modesto, CA and Patterson, CA before moving to Lodi. She married
Charles T.Anderson in Lodi. The couple resided in various areas with her husband's military career. Her husband later died in New Mexico in 1990. Mrs. Anderson moved to Tucson, Arizona for eight years and moved back to the Lodi area earlier this year. Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker for 55 years and enjoyed travel, sewing, reading and short wave radio. She is survived by her daughter, Shawnee Sisneroz of Woodbridge, CA; sister, Ila Romano of Torrence, CA; four brothers, Leonard Wood of Stockton, CA, Clifford Wood of Escondido, CA, Kenneth Wood of Torrence CA and Earl Wood of Modesto, CA; and two grandchildren. Cora Elizabeth Jett (Corkey) Halpenny - Died March 16. Born in Prescott on June 11, 1918 and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1939. Began teaching at Gilbert High School in 1939. Married Leonard C. Halpenny shortly afterward and moved to Tucson. Taught in the Tucson schools intermittently and later worked as the treasurer of her husband's company.
Corkey was very active in the Zeta Beta chapter of Chi Omega both as a student and as an alumna. She served as financial advisor to the Zeta Beta chapter for many years.
She was married
to Leonard Halpenny for 58 years and had two children, Jean (d. 1977) and Philip (Mary Pattison). She was a wonderful, kind, and fun wife, mother and mother-in-law. RUNDQUIST, Stanley W., 82, of Tucson; passed away March 18, 1999. Survivors include his niece, LaVonne (Dr. John T.) Kupice of Tucson; niece, Gloria Greer and brother-in-law, Al Lind, both of Minnesota, plus many other relatives and friends. A builder by trade, Stanley was responsible for the construction of many large and beautiful homes in the St. Paul area. A veteran of WWII, he was injured during a mine clearing detail. His humanitarianism was reflected in all his business dealing as well as his concern for alcoholics in their struggle with an addiction he could relate to. HAMILTON-BRITO, Jeanette (formerly Pearson), ended her long and courageous battle with breast cancer on March 19, 1999, surrounded by her loving family and friends, in the Hospice at Tucson Medical Center. Born in Silver City, NM, on march 11, 1948, Jeanette spent her adult life in Tucson, after graduating from UofA. She is survived by her children, Jill and Robby of Tucson; her mother Marian LaVelle; and sister Judy (Dave) Shafer of Thatcher, AZ; brothers Jim (Claudia) LaVelle of Castle Rock, CO., and John (Teri) LaVelle of Indiana, PA.; and seven beloved nieces; and by her caregivers of the last weeks, long time friend Mary Lou Long of Williamstown, NJ; Susan Shafer of Tucson; and cousin Charlyn (Ernie) Owens of Tucson. She leaves a host of friends whose loving concern supported her and her family throughout. Jeanette was an exceptionally kind, caring and loving person who touched and helped many others in her lifetime. LEVITSIS, Anthony George (Tony), 76, of Tucson, passed away March 19, 1999. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born November 29, 1922 in New York City. Tony was a veteran of the United States Army and served in WWII. He moved to Seattle, WAin 1941. He attended the University of Washington and graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry, returning to Seattle to open his dental practice. Dr. Levitsis was a member of the King County Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry. He was President of the North Seattle Exchange Club and President of the Northwest District Exchange Clubs. Tony was active in public service for many years serving as a Council Member for the City of Lake Forest Park, WA, President of the Mill Creek Community Association and was elected as one of the original Council Members in the City of Mill Creek, WA. His interests included skiing, reading, golfing and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by his family. Tony leaves his loving wife, Julia 'Pat'; daughters, Anne (Gary) Klokstad of Seattle, WA, Meridith (Rob) Schrader of Mill Creek, WA; son, John (Cathy) Levitsis of Everett, WA; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives. PEREZ, Rene A. Jr., 57, a native Tucsonan, passed away peacefully on March 18, 1999. Rene was born and raised in Tucson and was actively involved in his family's restaurants. Rene was also a volunteer in several community programs, and donated a lot of his time and efforts to others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
