CONTRERAS, Sarah T., age 55 of Tucson, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday April 2, 1999. FRIEND, Peggy, passed away on March 30, 1999. Born in Junction City, Kansas on May 24, 1928, she is survived by her loving twin sister, Betty Friend; devoted companion, Celeste Hopkins, both of Tucson; brother, John (June) Friend of Nortonville, Kansas; nephews, Pat (Pia) Friend, Jim (Susan) Friend, John (Diana) Friend and Bill Friend; four great-nieces and three great-nephews; half-sister and brother Maureen and Gerald Friend of Canada. Peggy had a lengthy career in the life insurance field, including companies in Denver, Colorado; Anchorage, Alaska; and Cerritos, California. She was a past Director of ZONTA International and had served on the Executive Board of the W.I.B.C. (Women's International Bowling Congress). She also was on the Board ofDirectors at Water of Life MCC until her health made further service impossible. After retiring as Vice-President of the National American Life Insurance Co. in Cerritos, Peggy moved to Tucson in 1992, as she loved Arizona and wanted to be near Betty. She was an avid sports fan as well as an allaround athlete; we were so proud when she was named All-American First Baseman at the ASA National Softball Tournament inOrange, California. As a senior citizen she participated in golf and bowling, and received medals in Senior Olympics bowling competition as well as city and state awards for bowling. Peggy was loved and admired by all who knew her, and will be forever remembered for living up to the name of Friend. ROSALDO, Mary Elizabeth (Betty), passed away April 2, 1999. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Renato I. Rosaldo and son, Richard Rosaldo. Betty was born on December 2, 1916 in Flora, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana, Champaign. Betty is survived by sons, Drs. Renato I. Jr. (Mary Pratt) and Robert W. (Cris), as well as grandchildren, Cristina 'Tina' (Dr. Michael Baker), Elena, Samuel, Manuel, Olivia and many long time friends. Betty was a Life time member of the Faculty Wives Club, the Tucson Festival Society, and the Assistance League. Betty was a gentle and loving person who will be remembered by her sparkling eyes, witty humor, generosity and kindness. She will be greatly missed by all who know and love her. Died March 19, 1999. Tom was born in Waco, Texas in 1932. He served in the US Navy as a Navy Corpsman. POW Korea. Navy Cross recipient. Retired from a distinguished 28 year Law Enforcement career. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Jim; daughters, Rachel and Sharon; sister, Kitty Loughridge.
The family wishes to thank his Dr's., nurse practitioners, nurses and staff at UMC and St. Mary's Hospice for their wonderful care. Tom was courageous to the end. His humor and wit never faltered. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

BOWERS, Floyd Robert, died on April 4, 1999, after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Bowers was 75 years old, was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, and had lived in Tucson for 23 years. His wife, Jeanne Eileen York Hampton Bowers, had passed away August 31, 1995. He is survived by five children, Robert Bowers, Thomas Bowers, Patrick Gene Bowers, Kathleen Johnson and Phyllis Tyree, 11 grandchildren and his sister, Charlotte Glenn. In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, his remains will be cremated at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, and no Memorial Service will be held. The family wishes to publicly acknowledge and thank the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Staff for the many years of kind, considerate and competent care provided to their father, grandfather and brother. GOODWIN, Carol Mead, passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 30, 1999 after a long battle with cancer. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Paul E. Mead and Violet B. Mead, and is survived by her daughter, Gina Tellez and her grandson Kyle Tellez Roche, as well as many, many devoted friends. She was born in Terre Haute, IN. in 1940, but was a long time resident of Tucson graduating from the University of Arizona with a Masters in Zoology in 1967.
Carol was an active participant in the Tucson community. She contributed her time and effort to groups such as TROT, Family Counseling and PACT, and more recently was president of LifeQuest. She was a guiding force bringing the Civano project to fruition and was a valued member of Soroptimist International of Tucson, serving as president 1990 – 1991.
Carol loved all living things, especially dogs and horses, and was always very environmentally involved.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at St. Francis in the Foothills on Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. with a gathering at her home following the service. MARR, Robert Miller, 90, died on Sunday, April 4, 1999 at La Posada Healthcare Center in Green Valley, AZ. Since his retirement in 1968, Marr had made his home in Green Valley. He was born on June 4, 1908 and grew up in Lakewood, OH, where his father was president, secretary and treasurer of the Lake Carriers Association. Marr was a graduate of Lakewood High School; Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH; and Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. He was married
to Liela West in May, 1934.
In 1943, Marr was commissioned in the U.S. Army and assigned to the Office of Strategic Services in Washington D.C. where he served until the conclusion of hostilities in Europe. At that time he was appointed to the Foreign Service of the Department of State and served in France and South Africa as well as in the Foreign Service Inspection Corp. His last post was Buenos Aires, Argentina where he retired in 1968 as Counselor of Embassy.
After retirement, Marr was on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and served in various key positions of both the Pianists Foundation of America and the Green Valley Concert Association. Marr also served on the Advisory Board of the University of Arizona School of Music and Dance, and was on the committee to plan for the Performing Arts and Learning Center in Green Valley. As a loyal alumnus of Dartmouth College, Marr served as treasurer of the Dartmouth Club of Tucson and as 1930 class secretary for many years. He was also a member of the DACOR-Bacon House in Washington, D.C., a club for retired Foreign Service Officers.
Robert M. Marr is survived by his sister, Katherine M. Turtle of Largo, FL, and by his nieces, Caroline Marr Turtle also of Largo, and Marilyn Turtle Braun of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years. A Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, AZ on Tuesday, April 13, at 2:00 p.m. to which the public is welcome. Eleanore M. Maurer passed away Friday, April 2, 1999 after a struggle with emphysema. She is survived by her son, Robert S. Workman; his wife, Cathy; and their children, Stephanie and BJ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer; her sister, Cecilia Ziehr; and her parents.
Eleanore lived most of her adult life in East Lansing, Michigan prior to moving to Florida in 1972. She and Spencer relocated to Tucson in 1974 and shared a home at Tucson National until his death in 1976. Eleanore enjoyed golfing, cooking, sewing and decorating. She spent many hours at the practice range working on her golf game and sharing her knowledge with fellow golfers. She also enjoyed watching local golfing events as well as televised tournaments. Eleanore frequently presented friends and family with freshly baked desserts and homemade soups. She enjoyed the sunset on the mountains, wildflowers, and the chirping of birds. She lived life to its fullest.
She was a loving and giving person. Her bright smile and tender touch will live in the memories of those who knew and loved her.

Steven M. Tucker lost his battle with cancer on April 1, 1999. Survived by parents, Charles Tucker and Elaine Tucker; three sisters, Laurie Tucker, Katherine Arnold and Terry Cox; nephews, Tim Mahr and Matthew Cox, all of Tucson; great aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Glenn Hass of Las Vegas, NV; grandmother, Anne Tucker of Detroit, MI; aunts, uncles, cousins, all of Detroit, MI; his loving companion, Cathy Greer; and his former wife, Kathy Tucker. A native of Tucson, born on November 23, 1955. Steve graduated from Cholla High School in 1973. He began his career with U.S. West in October, 1974 and will be greatly missed by fellow workers and his many close friends. Rosary will be recited Friday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Broadway & Craycroft, where a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Steve's life will follow the service. AROS, Alice nee Robles, 86, loving mother and grandmother and native of Tucson, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene J. Aros; parents, Frank and Pauline Robles; and sister, Delia Huckins. She will be greatly missed by her entire family, including her brother, George K. Robles; sister, Elma Conrad; children, Gloria Aros Rodriguez, William 'Billy' Aros, Robert 'Bobby' Aros; granddaughters, Tricia (Ernesto) Quiroz, Margaret (Robert) Taylor; great-grandsons, Lorenzo and Esteban Quiroz; and numerous nieces and nephews including Gilbert Aguirre, Gilda (Louis) Pellon, Barbara Aguilera and Frances Huckins. Her life was dedicated to giving to others unconditionally.
