Mildred S. Risko, of Tucson, went to walk with the Lord April 14, 1999. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Mass. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Michael Risko. She is survived, by her daughters, Micheline (Jan) Pridans and Cindy (Bob) Daniel, all of Tucson. Her grandchildren Stacy and Matt Pridans and Mindi Daniel. Her brother, Peter (Teresa) Gavlick of Swoyersville, PA. Her brother in law, Tony Klenis of Tucson; her god son, Thomas Danko; her nieces and nephews, Marcel, Ron, Chris, Sue and Kirk. Mildred was born October 14, 1922 and raised in Swoyersville, PA. SUTHERLAND, Esther Mendoza, 98, of Tucson for 78 years, went to her heavenly home on April 15, 1999. She was born in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico on April 7, 1901. Esther is preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Sutherland; daughter, Evelyn Duer; great granddaughter, Ashley Tassi. LOPEZ, Mary A. 85, a native Tucsonian, found peace and joy with the Lord and joined her beloved husband Gilbert R.Lopez, and loving son Gilberto (Boy), on April 17, 1999. She lived a full and happy life and passed on the wonderful legacy de amor, carino, respeto y alegria a su familia y amistades. The passions of her life were her family and friends. She was a long-time member of the Comwolei Auxiliary Club participating in many community activities and contributing to charitable organizations. She will always live in the hearts of her family and friends. WILLOUGHBY, Robert G., age 57 of Tucson Arizona, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. He was born June 6, 1941 in Monroe, WI, the son of Earl and Merle (Kubly) Willoughby. Bob was a graduate of New Glarus High School Class of 1959. On July 20, 1960 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until July 27, 1964, having been overseas for three years with the U.S. Naval Security Group #568. He was employed by Oscar Mayer Co. and retired from William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital in 1997. On October 1, 1983 he was united in marriage to the former Linda Kleeman in New Glarus. Bob was an avid sports fan, player, coach and manager of the Swiss Lanes Softball Team which won many tournaments. He was currently coaching his son Blake's Little League Baseball Team. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Tucson, AZ; son, Blake of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Ashley of Tucson, AZ; his mother, Merle Willoughby of Harland, WI; brother, James (Kay)Willoughby of Hartland, WI; uncle, Claude Willoughby of Evansville, WI; aunt, Mrs. Kathryn Fritz of Monroe, WI; nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his father Earl in 1985, Uncle Clifford Kubly, Aunt Bessie Kubly and Aunt Adeline Reuter; his brother-in-laws, David and William Kleeman. HELEN BRADLEY BROOKS, a longtime resident of Tucson who was active in community affairs died April 17, 1999. She was 95. Mrs. Brooks was born in Osowatamee, KS, January 10, 1904. She came to Tucson in 1922 and entered the University of Arizona where she graduated with honors in 1926. While attending the University, Mrs. Brooks was a charter member and the first president of Beta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Sorority. She was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, national scholastic honorary society and later served as a part-time teacher at Tucson High School. Mrs. Brooks was past president of many organizations including St. Luke's Board of Visitors, Junior League of Tucson, Tucson Symphony Women's Association and the Assistance League of Tucson. She was also active in the Opera Guild of Southern Arizona and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and P.E.O. Chapter B, and International Women's Educational Association. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death, in 1989, by her husband of 63 years, John Brooks, Professor Emeritus of Romance Languages at the University of Arizona. She is survived by her children, Rosemary Morrison and Major Frank Brooks, both of Tucson; Judge J. Thomas Brooks of Phoenix; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 23 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University Blvd. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to favorite charities. BROWN, Anona Stella Kimbro, passed away on April 13, 1999 in the 93rd year of her life. Anona was born on May 4, 1905 and raised on the T Bar M ranch near Dudleyville, AZ as was her mother and her grandmother before her. her lineage begins in 1840 and continues unbroken through 7 generations of a pioneering Arizona Family. Her forefathers arrived in America from England in 1676; her great-great-grandfather was Col. Joseph Hardin, a Revolutionary War hero and her grandfather died at The Battle of Shiloh during the Civil War. Her father, in addition to being a rancher, served as a Pima County Sheriff Deputy in the early part of this century. She attended a one room school in Haystack Valley, Cottonwood district and rode the five miles to school on a burro. She attended the old Tucson High School, Tempe Normal in Tempe and the Hayden High School in Hayden, Az. She and seven other students comprised the first graduating class at Hayden High School. Anona graduated from the Arizona State University in 1953 with a degree in Elementary Education and taught for 17 years at Williams Field in Chandler, Az where she was president of the Classroom Teacher's Association. With two sons serving in the US Navy during W.W.II she became a charter member of the Navy Mothers' Club in Mesa and Past President of the Dade Morris Auxiliary. Anona was a member of the Rebecah Lodge #7, and a member of the first woman jury to serve in Maricopa County. Anona was preceded in death by her parents, Manen and Victoria Trinkner Kimbro; husband, Calvin Madison Brown; her brothers, George and William Kimbro and Tom Drew; sister, Mabel Brown Fontaine; and her two sons, Calvin Arlon and Marvin Madison. She is survived by granddaughter, Arlene Brown (Ted) Rivard; grandsons, Ed (Kathe), Dennis, Scott (Sandy), Steve and David (Sharon) Mascherini; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She lived with her granddaughter, Arlene Brown Rivard and her family for the past three years. Anona's remains will be cremated and her ashes buried with her husband's remains in the Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa. Private services will be held at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Salvation Army.
To quote our grandmother: 'I feel very privileged to have lived to see all of my grandchildren grow to adulthood and I feel very proud and privileged to have been able to see and enjoy so many of my great and great-great-grandchildren, everyone is not so privileged. Thank you Lord for grating me this privilege.' She was also fond of saying, 'I could have never picked a better time to have lived; going from buckboard to a man on the moon in one's lifetime.'
