WEEKES, Mary Elizabeth, 77, of Tucson, died May 17, 1999. She is survived by her son, Wallace (Sally) Weekes; daughters, Mary (Jack) Hall and Denise (Bill) Trimailo; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on May 27, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, an aftercare provider.

CLARK, Robert Bucknam, 70, of Tucson, died May 23, 1999. Robert is survived by wife of almost 50 years, Mary; children, Peggy Clark of CO, Elena Torphy of CO, Sharon Lewis of CO, Robert Clark of NY, Charlene Murray of CA. Contributions may be made to American Legion #36, 5845 E. 22nd St., Tucson, AZ 85711. Arrangements by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 327-6341.

EVILSIZER, Floyd R., 80, passed away on May 20, 1999 in Tucson, Arizona. preceded in death by his wife, Joy and brother, Howard of Michigan. Mr. Evilsizer is survived by a daughter in Oregon. Floyd worked and retired from Clinton Valley Center in Pontiac, Michigan. He spent his final years enjoying his woodworking and gardening. He traveled throughout the west. He also enjoyed the animals of the desert. Interment will be at the Green Valley Mortuary, Green Valley, Arizona next to his wife. There will be no local service, however a visitation will be Thursday, May 27, 1999 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to 'The Reid Park Zoo, ' 1100 S. Randolph Way, Tucson, AZ 85716. This was his favorite spot for peace and enjoyment.

HERALD, Orangie Lee, 80, of Tucson, AZ, died May 25, 1999. preceded in death by her husband, Grundy Earl Herald. Survived by children, Brenda Baker, Phyllis (Clifford) Griffin, Steve (Lukey) Herald, Linda (Warren) Hock, Mickie Herald, and Christopher Herald; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 28 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, an aftercare provider, 5801 E. Grant Rd.

HOLIDAY, Matthew Rutherford, was born in Pittsburgh, PA, January 20, 1927 and died in Tucson, AZ on May 21, 1999.
A graduate of Mercersburg Academy and Brown University (1949), he held the ScB degree in Mechanical Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) and was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Fraternity.
When Mr. Holiday retired in 1987, after a 37-year career with ARMCO, Inc., working in Argentina, Italy, Venezuela, the Philippines and Corporate Headquarters, he was President of the Asia Pacific Division.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, Lucinda (Seth) Cowan, Sarah and Anna Marie, Anne Holiday and Steve Chance, Matthew, II.
Active in and a Past President of the Exchange Club of North Tucson, he was also a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, where a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 30, at 3:08 p.m.
Donations are suggested to the Tucson Medical Center Foundation, 5301 E. Grant Road, Tucson 85712 or the W.G. Holiday and Helen H. HOOD, Neil C., 79, of Tucson, died May 22, 1999. Husband of Marie E. of Tucson; father of Garry R., Danny O., Anita P. and Phillip D. Hood, Judith H. Vipperman, Shery J. Sulivan; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchildren. Funeral services private. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave. (888-1111), Tucson, Arizona.

KENAN, Dr. Frederick Maxwell, 88, of Tucson, died May 21, 1999 of complications following surgery. He was 88.
Dr. Kenan was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, February 7, 1911. He graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, in 1933 and from Thomas Jefferson University Medical School in Philadelphia in 1937. At Wittenberg, Dr. Kenan was a member of Beta Theta Pi social fraternity and was chapter president in 1932. He also was elected to Blue Key Honorary. At Jefferson, he was a member of Alpha Kappa Kappa medical fraternity. He interned at Cleveland City Hospital in 1937 and 1938 and then practiced general medicine and obstetrics in Upper Sandusky until 1957, hen asthma caused him to move with his family to Tucson.
In Tucson, Dr. Kenan was director of health for Tucson Unified School District from 1957 until 1976. During the summers in the 1960s, he worked at the Magma Copper Hospital in San Manuel and at Ganado Memorial Hospital on the Navajo Reservation. Since 1976, he maintained a life insurance examination business, working out of his home. He retired in 1995 at age 84.
Dr. Kenan is survived by his wife, June; his children, Charlotte Ann, Thomas Benton and Kathleen Jo of Tucson and John Robert (Jack) of San Diego; his first wife, Janis Benton Kenan of Tucson; three grandchildren, John Robert (Rob) Kenan Jr. and Bevin Kenan of San Diego, and Tanya (Edwin) Ferrell of Houston, Texas; and one great-grandson, Edwin Connor Ferrell. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Edwin A. Madson of South Carolina, Debra J. Madson of Tucson and Candis Strysko of Virginia Beach, VA, and three step grandchildren, Amanda, Shiloh and Joshua Monka.
Fred loved the Cleveland Indians, the old Cleveland Browns, playing golf and tennis, and reading history and biography. He taught all of his kids to play baseball, to enjoy playing board games, to read maps and follow those old blue highways across the country in the '50s, and to ride horses through the desert. And he loved reading to his children, especially Hardy Boys mysteries. Dad loved people and life. Those of us you left behind will miss you very much. Each of us has our own special memories of you and will carry your spirit with us on the rest of our journey.
Dr. Kenan donated his body to the University of Arizona Medical School. A memorial service will be held at Far Horizon's East main clubhouse, 7570 E. Speedway Blvd. The Rev. Steven Melde will officiate. Remembrances in Dr. Kenan's name may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Community Food Bank or the Beacon Foundation.

MOORE, Glen W., 85, died May 22, 1999. preceded in death by his wife, Martha M. Moore. Loving father and grandfather. Survived by daughter, Glenda (Jerry) Willis and grandson, Blair Willis. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Macular Degeneration International, 6700 N. Oracle Road, Suite 505, Tucson, AZ 85704.

RADER, Ethel Amanda, 78, died in Pompano Beach, Florida May 12, 1999. She is preceded in death by husband, Harold and a son, Bill. She leaves daughters, Barbara Brandsma of Tucson, Charlotte (Frank) Bailey of Florida and Harold, Jr.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Riley and Bessie both of Richmond, Kentucky also survive. She retired from Arizona Inn at the age of 75. Services were held at St. Elizabeth in Pompano.

SHAFER, Mary Frances Haynes 'Fran' February 7, 1918 to February 15, 1999.
A retired registered nurse and country club manager, Mrs. Shafer was the widow of golf professional, George C. Shafer. Having moved from Indiana to manage Oro Valley Country Club with her husband, she was a resident of the Tucson area since 1962. Mrs. Shafer is survived by her mother, Mrs. Martha Haynes; sons, John and James; sisters, Mrs. Doris Rowe and Mrs. Carolyn Cross; many other relatives and close friends. Mrs. Shafer was a 50 year member of Eastern Star in Anderson, Indiana and an Honorary Member of Murat Shrine in Indianapolis, Indiana. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 27, 1999, 6:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, S. 5th Ave. at 16th St., Tucson. Memorial donations may be made to charities and service organizations.

SHETLER, James Franklin, 73, of Tucson, died at home on May 24, 1999. He was born on October 29, 1925 in Pigeon, MI. He is survived by his wife, Peggy to whom he was married for 51 years; daughters, Jackie (John) Thames and Sharie (David) Letarte; son, Bert (Sheryl) Shetler; six grandchildren, all of Tucson and sister, Miriam (Wayne) Roth of Colorado. Jim was a conductor for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 37 years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rincon Congregational United Church of Christ, 122 N. Craycroft Rd. There will be a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6; 00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m in the East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Committal will take place in the East Lawn Palms cemetery.

TERRILL, Salvador R., born February 7, 1923, died May 24, 1999. Mr. Terrill was born in Miami, AZ, to Beatriz R. and Jose Terrill. Sal is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Joey; daughter, Linda Somilleda (Nick), and granddaughter, Natalie; daughter, Monica Carter (Tim), and grandchildren, Marcus Garner, Dustin and Ashley; daughter, Mona Long; brother, Manuel; sisters, Concha Terrill, Emma Bostick, Rosa Munoz, Ernestina Valles (Jorge), Josephina Castro (Hector), Estela Burgos, Hortencia Arellano and Cecilia Rivera (Alfonso); sister-in-law, Esther Duarte Contreras; uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews. Mr. Terrill joined the U.S. Marines in 1941 at the age of 18. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Sal was a photographer, printer, welder, silversmith, interpreter, golfer and fisherman. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, May 27 at St. Monica's at 10:00 a.m.

Philomene Christine Brown, 87, died May 26, 1999. Mother of David J. (Patricia) Brown of Tucson; stepmother of Edward J. (Margaret) Brown of Sierra Vista and Francis R. Brown of Tucson; brother of Catherine (Harold) Helgoth of Boulder, CO, Margaret Brekel of Sterling, CO, Albert Brekel of Sterling, CO and Lawrence (Betty) Brekel of Sterling, CO; two granddaughters, Cynthia Brown of Fort Collins, CO and Laurel Brown of Tucson. She was a member of the original choir at St. Francis Cabrini. Scripture Service 7:15 p.m., Friday, May 28, at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29 at St. Francis Cabrini, 3201 E. Presidio Rd., with interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. Contributions in Philomene's memory may be made to St. Francis Cabrini Choir. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 28, at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

CANNON, Reta Mary Thies 'Granny' born January 3, 1906, was welcomed Home by Jesus on May 24, 1999. She will be sadly missed by three daughters, Carol Patscheck, Marjorie Pinnell and Betty Pinnell; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 28 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 East Grant Road. A celebration of her life will follow at graveside in East Lawn Palms cemetery at 3:00 p.m., with her grandchildren Rev. Edward Elder and Rev. Ricki Ray officiating.

CELAYA, F. Jesus (Jesse), 76, died May 25, 1999 in Tucson. Jesse was born September 18, 1922 in Tucson. Survived by one daughter, Armida Quintero; three sisters, Elda (Javier) Ledesma, Alice (Tom) Gozales, Celia; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mass will be Friday, May 28, 1999 at Noon at St. Cyril's Church, 4725 E. Pima. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL. Burial will be at Holy Hope cemetery. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338.

CLIFF, Oliver, 81, veteran actor died of kidney failure at his home in Tucson on May 22, 1999. Oliver spent over 52 years on the professional stage with Katharine Cornell and Laurence Olivier on Broadway, then in recent years becoming a favorite in numerous roles at the Arizona Theatre Company in Tucson and Phoenix. Survived by his sister, Betty C. Grove of Paso Robles, CA; two nieces and one nephew. At Mr. Cliff's request his cremated remains will be scattered at sea off the San Diego coastline. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery.

FOWLER-DODD, Patricia J., age 51, a lifetime resident of Arizona, passed away May 23, 1999. Born October 27, 1947 in Morenci, AZ. Survived by her loving husband, Ronald D. Dodd; daughter, Carrie Norton; son, Brian White; daughter, Jeanetta White; granddaughter, Mystica White; sisters, Shirley (Leonard) Strom and Glenda (Jim) Kennedy; brothers, Narvin (Jenesa) Fowler, Frank (Judi) Fowler, Glen (Vicki) Fowler, Patrick (Janna) Fowler and Lon (Jenny) Fowler. A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m. this morning at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave., Rev. Mitch Wright of Enchanted Hills Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, a certified aftercare provider.

FREUDENDAHL, Selma (Baumler) 98, passed away on May 25, 1999. She was a 40 year resident of Tucson who moved here from Chicago. She is preceded in death by her husband, Otto and two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by one niece and two nephews. Funeral will be in Oak Lawn, IL, with arrangements by Blake Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453, 708-636-1193.

GARCIA, Socorro Ochoa, 'La Tia Sukie, ' 74, of Pascua Nuevo, Tucson, entered her Eternal Rest on Saturday, May 22, 1999. Leaving behind her dearly beloved family: brother, Jesus Ochoa Garcia; sister, Ramona Garcia Jaimes; daughter, Adelina Jaimes; sons, Edward Gene Thomas, Carlos Jaimes Sr., David (Molly) Jaimes Sr., Juan (Thomasina) Jaimes Sr.; 15 great nephews and nieces and a large family tree. Services will be held at Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Pascua Nuevo, at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 1999, with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The wake service will be held throughout the entire night. Mass and internment will be at Cristo Rey Catholic Church at 8:00 a.m. followed by the Internment at Monte Calvario cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Prayer for Her Soul: 'Eternal Rest, grant unto her, O LORD. And may the Perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in Peace. Amen.'

HOWARD LAZAROW - passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, May 24, 1999. He was born on April 20, 1951 in Tucson to Benjamin and Pearl Lazarow. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl. He is survived by his much loved son and daughter, Ari and Heather and his stepdaughter, Briana; his loving father, Benjamin and his two loving brothers, Sheldon and Lee; nephew, Jason and niece, Lacey. Howard graduated from Rincon High School in Tucson. He attended the University of Arizona and College of Artesia in New Mexico. After a brief stint in the Air Force, Howard moved to Los Angeles, California, where he attended the California College of Mortuary Science. He worked for a number of years in Los Angeles as an embalmer and funeral director for two of the major mortuaries there. He moved back to Tucson and worked in the mortuary business here until he started his own travel agency, 'Sail La Vie Cruises and Tours.' Howard actively ran that business until his death. From his Tucson business, Howard made all the travel arrangements for people in the U.S., who were adopting orphans from Russia. Howard is affectionately known as 'Howie' by his family and friends. Howie's life revolved around his children. They were his shining light and he was a wonderful, loving, caring, and devoted father. He closed his office in the early afternoon everyday so that he could pick his children up from school and be with them for the remainder of the day. There was nothing more important in life than his children. He coached his son's little league team. He took kids on numerous world-wide excursions and provided them wonderful opportunities to learn about other cultures. Wherever he went he took his children with him. Howie was a positive presence in life. He was friendly, cheerful and well-liked. He was always smiling and always had a joke to tell you. He had a kind and helpful heart evidenced by his many friends. His loss will leave a void in many lives. We were all enriched by sharing our lives with Howie. We will truly miss him, but we will endure by keeping the memory of his ever-smiling face. Services will be Friday, May 28, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with Rabbi Thomas Louchheim officiating. Interment Congregation Anshei Israel Section, Evergreen cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
