Eloise Naomi Croner McCaine
On the morning of May 26th, 1999, the gentle soul of Eloise Naomi Croner McCaine was lifted up into everlasting peace. Her dignity and wisdom touched many during the course of her lifetime and she will always be remembered as a woman of God who lived her faith every moment of every day. Often challenged but never defeated, from a wheelchair that could not confine her, she taught her children to soar like eagles and touch the sky. Her integrity of character and strength of spirit where the rock on which she built a Christian home filled with an open love and compassion for family, friends, and others who happened to cross her path. Often a counsel to ministers and elders of her church, her unwavering faith and love of God was inspiring to all who knew her.
Eloise was born in Rendville, Ohio where she also graduated from high school. After working in the U.S. Army Depot as a stock clerk from 1943 to 1945, she entered military service in the first group of forty-four women in the Women's Army Corps (WACS) Hospital Company where she completed Medical and Surgical Technician Training. She continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1951 as a Surgical Technician. Upon discharge from military service, Eloise built a home, family, and pathway to future success for her five grateful and loving children in Salinas, California in the St. James C.M.E. church. She would say, 'It is God's love that protected and provided for them.' Her children will tell you it is God's love that blessed them with her presence in their lives. On moving to Tucson, Arizona in 1987, Eloise joined Prince Chapel A.M.E. church and later became an affiliate of the Pima Street Baptist Church where she continued to witness and testify her love for God even as her own health faded.
She was born the daughter of Bert and Inez Croner. preceded in death by her younger brother, Paul Croner and granddaughter, Jill Naomi McCaine who were also dearly loved, the remarkable spirit of compassion and family love in the Croner family continues on in her brother, Bert Croner, and her sisters, Belia Warren, Florence Blake and Inez Allan all currently residing in Ohio.
