SOUTHARD, Lucille F., born December 4, 1918 in Fleming CO to George and Martha Pimple. passed away Friday, June 25, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. Lucille married Ernest Southard in 1940 and settled in Yuma, CO. After the war Lucille began a long career with the U.S. Government. Starting as a clerk in the VA hospital at Battle Mountain, SD, Lucille volunteered to move to White Sands Proving Grounds where she served as a German speaking secretary for the newly Americanized rocket scientists who worked to develop the U.S. Space program. in 1954 she began to work at the U.S. Geological Survey and stayed with that agency for 24 more years. Her awards include: The Outstanding Secretary at White Sands 1953, Special Honor for superior service i the Water Resources Division 1970, Memorandum of Appreciation Department of the Interior 1975, Honor Award Achievement Award for Superior Service U.S. Geological Survey 1978, Special Presidential Achievement Award for coordinating the fiscal year 1978 budget for the Florida District of the USGS. ON September 14, 1975, as a member of the Tallahassee, FL delegation to Rome, Lucille was present at St. Peter's Basilica where she was a witness to the canonization of the first American Saint, Elizabeth Seton. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lowell Southard. She is survived by sons, Daniel Southard of Sierra Vista, AZ, David Southard; daughter, Donna Patterson, both of Tucson; grandchildren, Andy, Leia, Laura, Danny, Jimmy, Eric, Kelly, K.C. and Cami; sixteen great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29 with Vigil service at 5:30 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Mass will be offered 8:30 a.m., Wed., June 30 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Desert cemetery.

STARRY, Phillip C., died, June 18, 1999. ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 888-1111.

BAKER, John S., Sr., age 84. Born in Detroit, Michigan on January 17, 1915. Born to Eternal Life June 27, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie del Tufo Baker. Survivors include his children, John (Dayle) Baker, Jr., Reverend Joseph M. Baker, Mary (Christopher) Bozell, Timothy H. Baker, Kathleen M. Baker and Elizabeth Ann (Anthony) Supinski; one sister, Sister John Mary Baker, IHM; three brothers, Joseph, Francis and Thomas and 22 grandchildren.
During his career, Mr. Baker practiced law in Detroit, MI and was a member of the Michigan Bar Association. He later served in World War II as a Navy Lieutenant, in both Europe and Asia. Post-war, he was owner and president of Jack Baker American Motors in Detroit, and also managed several Ford and Chrysler dealerships. He was a resident of Scottsdale, AZ, for the last 25 years, and had been employed as a sales representative for Coulter Cadillac, Phoenix, AZ, before retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also the National Historical Society.
Funeral services and Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, 338 West University Blvd., Tucson, AZ. Viewing will be at the church on Tuesday, June 29, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The wake and rosary will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Father Joseph M. Baker, Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be at Holy Hope cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass offerings or donations to either Those Who Care or DePorres-Caridad Feeding Program. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace, Amen.

BAKER, Mrs. Barbara J., died June 26, 1999. She was a native to Arizona. Born in Bisbee, moved to Tucson where she graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1953. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Devon Gables Nursing Home up until her retirement. She has been a long standing member of St. Joseph's Parish in Tucson since 1957.
Her survivors include: her husband, H. Jason Baker; daughters, Karen (Robert) Skaggs of Tucson and Susan Baker of Phoenix; son, Phillip Baker (Lisa Huhn) of Tucson; brother, Roscoe (Elda) Brittain of Spokane, WA; sister, Marie (Fred) Drew of Copper City, AK; nieces, Donna Backhaus of Phoenix and Claire Bergevin of Spokane, WA; nephews, Sam Pollman of Phoenix and Larry Pollman of Tucson. Only the Lord knows how much we will miss her – The Brightest star up in the Heavens.
Memorial Mass will be offered 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 1, 1999 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Liver Research Foundation or donate two hours to your local nursing home. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

BRUCKHEIMER, Foster, 70, passed away June 26, 1999. Survived by daughters, Ellen Fahl and Elizabeth Bruckheimer; grandchildren, Derrick Fahl, Taylor Fahl and Sarena Fahl. Memorial funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at 3:30 p.m. at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. University Blvd., Tucson. Entombment will be private in East Lawn Palms cemetery. ARIZONA MORTUARY & EAST LAWN PALMS are aftercare providers.

CHAVEZ, Kazue, 74, died June 26, 1999. Wife of Daniel D. Chavez; mother of Patrick (Rebecca E.) Chavez, Dennis (Rachel) Chavez and Richard (Rebecca C.) Chavez; seven grandchildren also survive. Memorial service 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at SGI Community Center, 2540 E. 22nd St. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

COLLINS, Brandie Diane, age 15, passed away from our world on June 17, 1999 to become the angel in heaven that she was on earth. Born March 25, 1984 to Frank and Cheryl Collins. She is survived by both her parents, stepfather, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters, a niece and many cousins and friends. We would like to thank everyone who gave so selflessly so that Brandie could be laid to rest and those in the media who helped notify the public of all the families needs. A visitation will be held today from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the LDS Tucson Stake, 105 N. Norton. Burial will follow at South Lawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you hold your children a little closer today. Bask in the warmth of their smiles and surround yourself with the music of their laughter. Once they're gone from us all we have left is what's in our hearts. We miss you Brandie. We promise to live each day as though it were a lifetime. Until we see you again, safe in the arms of your Lord, Jesus Christ. TODD CARR MORGAN, An avid sailor and aspiring businessman, died on Sunday June 27, 1999, after a three year battle with cancer. He was 33. He will be especially missed by his immediate family, his mother Patricia Morgan, his stepfather, Peter Salomon; his sister Lisa Morgan and stepsister, Liza Salomon.
Todd graduated from the University of Arizona in 1993 and spent several years in Arizona as a successful swimming pool and landscape designer, a career that combined his incredible skills as a designer and an inventor.
Kind and concerned for others, Todd donated his time to charity and was active in the local Twenty-Third Club of Arizona. Two years ago, Todd's passion for sailing and his entrepreneurial spirit led him to California, where he could split his time between the ocean and graduate school.
An exceptional and tenacious student, Todd applied and was accepted to the University of Southern California School of Business and was working toward his advanced degree.
Todd's strength is an inspiration to others. He will be missed by all of his family, his friends, and the many people who met him along his path.
Todd's memorial service will be held at St. Phillips in Tucson on Wednesday, June 30 at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his name to the Casa de los Ninos, 1101 N. 4th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705.

MUNOZ, Eva Buttner, 89, a lifetime resident of Arizona, passed away June 25, 1999. Born March 18, 1910 to Harvey and Gertrudis Robles Buttner in Douglas. She is preceded in death by her husband Tiburcio; son, Agustin. She is survived by sons, Tiburcio III (Angie) and Carlos (Susan) Munoz; daughters, Julia (Carl) Van Zelf and Beatricz (Brian) Leck; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Also preceded in death by sisters, Ida Provencio and Luisa Bowden; and survived by her brothers, Oscar and Leo Buttner; and sister, Rosa B. Juarez; also numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Rosary will be on Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernards Church in Pirtleville. The funeral mass will be on Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Bernard Church.

NaDEAU, Diane, 53, of Tucson, passed away Sunday, June 27, 1999. Survived by life mate, Donna Phillips; sisters, Joan Hardway of Payson, AZ and Beverly Goeltzenleuchler of San Jose, CA; nephews, Courtney and Jeff; great nephew, Ellery. Funeral service 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 1 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service. RANEY, Charlotte Fern, 89, of Tucson, passed away June 27, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Anne Bittick and sister, Ruby Jean Pittman, plus three granddaughters, Whitney, Canna and Ashley. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marge Morgan, Dorothy Hughes, and Ruth Laughter. Friends may call at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E. RIVERA, Rogelio F., 56, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away June 26, 1999. Survived by wife, Maria Rivera; mother, Manuela Herber; daughters, Joan Rivera, Barbara Dorame and Anna Maria Rivera; sons, Adrian and Roy Rivera, Jr.; sister, Lupe Contreras; brother, Arturo Rivera. Also survived by eight grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 1999 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Thursday, July 01, 1999, 9:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, 801 N. Grande Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. SABEL, Glenn Eric, born July 12, 1962, passed away June 27, 1999. Devoted son of Anita and Ben Sabel; beloved brother of Gerald M. Sabel, also surviving partner, Michael Ranallette; numerous wonderful friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Active in AIDS Education for many years, Glenn also enjoyed working with troubled gay youth. Last year, he began studying American Sign Language at PCC, and planned to become an interpreter, and will be remembered as an advocate for AIDS Education by the many lives he so gently touched and educated. Glenn passed away surrounded by his family at home. A memorial service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Thursday, July 1, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to Carondelet Hospice Care or Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation. Arrangements by Heather Mortuary, an aftercare provider.

ELIZABETH G. ACKEN - Beloved wife and mother, passed away June 24, 1999. Elizabeth was born February 28, 1912 in Spokane, WA. She was a graduate of Kent State University. She went on to teach Physical Education at Wellesley High School in Wellesley, MA. A Tucson resident of 49 years, Elizabeth worked as a Medical Records Transcriber at the Pima County Hospital. Survived by husband of 62 years, Ralph; sons, William J. and Robert P. (Nickie), all of Tucson; five grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. July 2, 1999 at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, 500 N. Wilmot Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Carondolet Hospice Program.

GREGORIA LEYVA 'CHA-CHA' ALVAREZ
January 20, 1913 – June 25, 1999
preceded in death by two sons, Federico 'Wico' Alvarez and Jose R.L. 'Richard' Alvarez. She is survived by husband, Gerardo 'Lalo' Alvarez; two daughters, Dolores A. Lopez and Frances Baltazar; two sons, Ernesto Alvarez and Alfred Alvarez, Sr.; 25 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Blind at the age of 12, she managed to raise six of her children and four children that were not her own. Despite her ailments, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend – a true matriarch. It was her strong will and determination that inspired those who knew her. She will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 1, 1999 at 4:00 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at her home, 7650 S. Camino Huivisim.
Mass will be held 9:00 a.m., Friday, July 2, 1999 at Santa Rosa Mission followed by interment at Holy Hope cemetery.
