EUGENE WALTER GWOZDZ - Beloved husband of Lorraine for 45 years. Also survived by children: Karen (Irwin) Robinson and Kathy (Les) Orchekowsky all of Sierra Vista, Tina (Steve) Danloe, Joe Gwozdz and Patti (Charlie) Gwozdz. Also survived by sisters and brothers: Loretta (Walter) Christy, Edwin (Irene) Gwozdz and Alice (Ken) Roback of Illinois and Richard (Diane) Gwozdz of Tucson. Also survived by 10 grandchildren.
Gene was born March 10, 1930 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Lane Technical High School and attended community college. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps 1951-53. He worked in Chicago for Universal Oil Company as a draftsman for ten years. Then he moved his family to Tucson in 1965 and founded Pima Ace Hardware, Inc., an ongoing family operated business.
Gene's chief interests in recent years included golf, travel, trips to Pinetop, an active interest in the Rincon Optimist Club and following the sports and activities of his ten grandchildren.
Join his family to celebrate his life at an informal gathering of family and friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 1, 1999 at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway. Memorial service 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 2, 1999 at St. Pius X. Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo.

WILLIAM HANEMANN, JR., 47, passed away on June 29, 1999 after a valiant fight with cancer. Beloved husband of Debbie; cherished son of William Hanemann, Sr.; brother of Marilyn (Jack) Hensley; nephews, John (Kerri) and Jim Hensley; great-niece, Cierra and great-nephew, Noah Hensley. Predeceased by his beloved mother, Louise Hanemann.
Bill served in the armed forces from 1969 to 1971. For the past ten years, he was a valued employee of the University of Arizona. Bill was very active in the Humane Society of Tucson and the Libertarian Party. He is also survived by loving in laws, Joan and Jack Cole; sister-in-law, Cathi Cappello; brother-in-law, David Cole and many, many loving friends.

MELODY LYN LUYTIES - passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 1999 after a six year struggle with cancer. She had recently celebrated her 28th birthday on May 11, and her 3rd wedding anniversary on April 27.
Melody graduated from Prescott College with a degree in Elementary Education. However, she chose the Women's Active 20/30 Club as the vehicle to fulfill her passion for helping children. In her brief tenure with the club she raised over $40, 000 for the Steele Memorial Children's Research Center.
Melody also loved interior design, attended the Fleur De Lis School of Design. Her graduation cut short by one of her dozen medical procedures, Melody's creative jewel remains the home she built with her husband, Rick.
In her bout with cancer, Melody relentlessly confronted each mounting challenge with resolute courage and grace. To witness her determination one became an immediate fan.
Throughout these harried years of college, volunteering, interior design, and marriage, Melody touched the hearts and souls of scores of people. From physicians and nurses to friends and family, those who knew Melody admired and loved her.
Melody will reside in the hearts of her devoted husband, Rick Luyties; her parents, Linda Grigg Vodica and John Grigg; her brother, David Grigg; and her grandparents, Francis and John Grigg. She will be eternally missed by her mother-in-law, Jennifer Luyties Eisenstein and husband, Douglas R. Eisenstein; her sister-in-law, Stephanie Luyties Broad and husband, Bob Broad; her grandparents-in-law, Alice and Charles Lindsay and her kind-hearted friends.
A memorial service will be held at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church on Saturday, July 3, 11:00 a.m.

VICTOR ROTERUS, 92, of Green Valley, passed away on July 28, 1999. preceded in death by his wife, Florence, he is survived by his devoted sister, Mildred Roterus of Green Valley; his daughters, Julie Leiter of Flemington, NJ and Alix Ankele of New York City and his two grandchildren, Danica and Jesse Ankele of NYC.
Born in Cloquet, Minnesota, Vic received his bachelor's and master's degree in economic geography at the University of Chicago and taught in the School of Business Administration at the Washington State University for five years.
He began his government career as a regional planner for the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1935. Subsequently he served with the National Resources Planning Board, the War Production Board (Deputy Director in Charge, Forest Products Division), the City Planning Commission of Cincinnati (Chief of Research), and as Resident Director of the Social Science Research Program of the University of Michigan. He settled in Washington, D.C. in 1948, where he headed the Area Development program in the Department of Commerce for 13 years and then became Economic Advisor to the Area Redevelopment Administration. In 1965, he served as Assistant Director for Program Planning of the Office of Regional Development Planning of the Economic Development Administration and in 1967 became Special Assistant to the Federal Co-Chairman of the Upper Great Lakes Regional Commission. During his government career, he served as consulting professor at the University of Maryland and also as the alternate U.S. Delegate to the Working Party on Depressed Areas of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. He was the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the certificate of merit and citation of the National civil Service League, the Silver Medal of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the meritorious contributions award of the Association of American Geographers.
He was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association of American Geographers, the American Industrial Development Council, the American Institute of Planners, the American Society of Planning Officials, Lambda Alpha (land economics fraternity), and the Regional Science Association. He was also a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on the Scientific and Technologic Base of Puerto Rico's Economy and was widely published in numerous professional publications.
From 1970 to his retirement in 1975, he was Visiting Professor in the Geography and Regional Development Department, University of Arizona. During this time, he and Florence fell in love with the Tucson area and settled in Green Valley in 1975, where he pursued his avid interests in golf and travel.
Always a vibrant presence, his keen intellect, sparkling wit, good heart and indomitable spirit will be deeply missed. The family invites friends to join them at 1030 N. Paseo de Golf in Green Valley for an informal memorial ceremony and reception on Saturday, July 3 at 3:00. RUMAN, Doris Joy 'Buzzy' age 73, a lifetime resident of Tucson, passed away June 28, 1999. Born August 22, 1925 in Tucson. Mrs. Ruman was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #7 for over 30 years, past Mother Advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow Girls. She joined Eastern Star on June 5, 1945. A member of Tucson Garden Club to further her passion for gardening. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. She was a lifeguard at Himmel Park during the 1940's. She worked for the Tucson Jewish Community Center as a Geriatrics Supervisor. Member of the Arizona Historical Society. Active with the Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee as a wife, and she was a very talented artist. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Raymond; son, Nick L. Ruman; daughter, Valerie Rae Ruman; granddaughter, Lorena Ruman; sister, Shirley (Don) Ameling; nieces, Charlotte, Susan, Kathy and Barbra; survived by many loving friends. SAUTTER, Otto, 91, was born in Schnaitheim, Germany on November 30, 1907. He passed away on June 28, 1999. He came to America in 1928 and settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1954. He is preceded in death by his wife, Hilda (Mast) from Unterreichenbach, Germany. He is survived by a son, Herbert (Roberta); two daughters, Eleanor (Robert) Odell and Arlene (Charles) Schweigert; eight grandchildren, Linda Achenbach, Michael Sautter, Jamie Hernandez, Theresa Hachworth, Peggy Smoot, Sharon Counas, Steven Brauns, Mark Schweigert; four great grandchildren, Erin Achenbach, Cheyanne Smoot, Breanna and Anthony Hackworth; nieces, Gertrude Fischer and Marianne Langenswee of Germany and Shiela Monahan of California. LaVar Allred Jones was reunited with his Heavenly Father on June 30, 1999, after a long struggle with diabetes. Born April 15, 1930 in Chandler, AZ, he was active in a wide variety of business, community and personal interests. The owner and founder of JONES OUTDOOR ADVERTISING, he was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, having served a mission call to Argentina in the early 1950's and was President of the Spanish-American Branch of the LDS Church in Tucson. While his primary business was outdoor advertising, he was also a successful local homebuilder. He served for many years as Chairman of TUCSON JUNIOR STRINGS, and was an accomplished musician. He is survived by his wife, Katherine; their children, Wendy Hargrave of Mesa, AZ, Rachel Yorgason of Logan, UT, Heather Johnson of Mesa, AZ, and Toni Jones of Tucson, AZ and also by the children of his former wife Corina Nolting; Celia Bezou of Covington, LA, LaVar Jones, Jr., Deborah Olson of Santa Fe, NM, Leslie Jones of Corrales, NM and Dwight Jones of Tucson, AZ, and also by his brothers, Cato and Jay Dean Jones, both of Mesa, AZ; and 12 grandchildren. preceded in death by parents, Leland J. and Minnie L. PHELPS, Herbert Clark, passed away at Tucson Medical Center on July 1, 1999. Born in Baltimore, MD on November 3, 1917, he relocated to Tucson with his family in 1945. He worked as a homebuilder, and worked in construction and building materials until retiring in 1982. Herbert was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Tucson #4. He is survived by wife, Catherine; son, John Phelps of Phoenix; daughter, Janice Jones of Tucson; granddaughter, Wendy (Eric) Brunnemannn; great-granddaughter, Catriona; and brother, Stanley (Margaret) Phelps of MD. John Rosenbaum, loving husband, father, grandfather died peacefully at home June 30, 1999. Survived by wife, Virginia; daughters, Judy Rosenbaum, Joan Miller (Barry), Jane Rosenbaum (Moses Bornstein); grandchildren, Michael Foltz, Gwen and Evan Gehrke, Addy and Cece Moreno; sister, June McMahon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Kathryn (Ingram) Rosenbaum; brother, Jim Rosenbaum.
John was born September 15, 1927 in Connorsville, Indiana. He moved to Tucson in 1946 where he met Virginia Richart and married
her in 1950. He joined the Marine Corps and served in China and Guam. John and his brother Jim worked together at Frontier Shell until they started Grant Auto Supply in 1965, which was truly a family business, employing every family member at one time or another. John continued to work until retirement in 1993. John's sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was known for joke telling and could find a joke about any subject, politically correct or not.
